Telematics Programs Prompt Changes in Driving Behavior, But Not All Changes are Permanent

“Telematics programs play a beneficial role in promoting safe driving and reducing the frequency of auto accidents and associated costs. There are opportunities for insurers to do even better by offering suggestions and strategies drivers can use to make the positive changes permanent.”

According to a new study from the Insurance Research Council (IRC), 80 percent of drivers change their driving behavior while participating in auto insurer-sponsored telematics programs, but not all of the changes are permanent. After participating in a program, 42 percent of those who made changes say that they now drive “pretty much” the same way as before. Just 15 percent say the changes made are permanent, while 19 percent say they only rarely engage in their old driving habits, and 24 percent admit to occasionally reverting to old driving habits.

Insurer-sponsored telematics programs typically involve auto insurers providing participating policyholders with individualized advice and tips on how they can reduce the risk of accidents by changing how they drive. The feedback provided is based on information about actual driving behavior collected during program participation.

“These findings suggest that telematics programs play a beneficial role in promoting safe driving and reducing the frequency of auto accidents and their associated costs,” said David Corum, vice president of the IRC. “The findings also highlight an opportunity for insurers to do even better by offering suggestions and strategies drivers can use to make the positive changes permanent.”

Other issues examined in the study include:

  • Reasons for not participating in a telematics program when offered
  • Concerns about how information about driving behavior is used
  • Factors that encourage participation in telematics programs
  • The impact of participation on insurance costs
  • How drivers use their smartphones while driving

The IRC report, Auto Insurance Telematics and Smartphone Use: Consumer Survey Report, is based on an online survey of 2,099 drivers age 18 and older conducted in March 2020 by Dynata on behalf of IRC. For more detailed information on the study’s methodology and findings, contact David Corum at 484-831-9046 or by email at IRC@TheInstitutes.org. Visit IRC’s website, http://www.insurance-research.org, for information about purchasing a copy of the report.

A New Article Explains How Car Insurance Rates Are Affected By An Accident

News Image

“Before making the decision to file a claim to their insurers, drivers should carefully analyze if it’s worth it. Drivers who are not at fault and suffered minor damages should avoid filling claims to prevent their premiums to increase substantially”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director

Compare-autoinsurance.org has launched a new blog post that presents how car insurance premiums will change for a policyholder who files a claim after an accident.

For more info and free car insurance quotes, visit https://compare-autoinsurance.org/car-insurance-after-an-accident-how-are-premiums-affected/

Before making a claim to the insurance provider, drivers should consider a few things before making this move. According to a recent study, drivers who make a single auto insurance claim saw their premiums increase on average by 44.1%. Also, the reported premium increases weren’t for individuals who have a history of unsafe driving. Even after a single claim, premium increases can be significant.

Drivers who want to file a claim after an accident should consider the following:

  • How much the premiums will rise. The increase drivers can expect to see on their insurance premiums after an at-fault accident varies by location, driving record, vehicle, and the insurance company. Drivers can expect anywhere from a 23% to 73% increase in premiums in year one after an at-fault accident.
  • Insurance premium increase by state. Some states report costlier increases than others. Drivers living in states such as North Carolina, Massachusetts, Texas, New Hampshire, and California can expect to see their rates increase after an accident from 57.3% to 63.1%. On the other hand, drivers from Kentucky, Montana, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Maryland will see their rates go up anywhere from 21.5% to 30.6%. Increases in the premium paid can last as long three to five years after an at-fault accident if the damages to the vehicle exceed over $2,000.
  • How to lower the premiums. Be prepared and purchase accident forgiveness. Not all companies offer this, but those that do will give the policyholders a one at-fault accident forgiveness with no increase in premium if they fit certain criteria. Other methods involve raising the deductible and improving the credit score. Furthermore, policyholders should avoid filing claims for small things after they have filed a claim on an at-fault accident.
  • Which claims affect the premiums the most. Bodily injury claims can cause the premiums to spike the most. A single bodily injury claim will result in an average premium increase of 48.6%.
  • What if the policyholder isn’t at fault. Whether or not the rates will increase after an accident in which the policyholders were not at fault is insurance provider specific. Some companies will not increase the premium for drivers involved in their first accidents, but if they suffer several accidents, even if they are not at fault, it could result in an increased premium.

A New Article Explains Why Drivers Should Buy Car Insurance Online

News Image

“Getting car insurance online is a fast and easy process. You no longer have to wait in traffic or talk to pushy agents who try to get your signature”, said Russell Rabichev, Marketing Director of Internet Marketing Company.

Buying car insurance online has become a necessity in our highly-active modern world. Spending countless hours on the roads, or endless negotiations with agents represent a waste of time. Purchasing coverage online comes with certain benefits. Find out more about these advantages and get free car insurance quotes from https://compare-autoinsurance.org/.

  • Avoid wasting time in traffic. Don’t forget that nowadays, time is money! As just mentioned before, it can be really time-consuming and difficult to arrive at multiple locations in a short time, especially when living in a metropolitan area. A driver can waste several hours on the roads, just to reach an insurer, ask for prices, analyze offers, and return home. And this process must be repeated again if looking for several estimates for a fair comparison. Shopping online removes the need of reaching the physical offices and wait until someone is sent to get in touch and analyze the driver’s case.
  • Avoid being exposed to cunning marketing strategies and pushy agents. When dealing with a car insurance agent, the client must face an expert. Keep in mind that not all agents are so well-intended and some of them just want to follow their own agenda and convince as many persons as possible to buy coverage. All agents will tell prospective car owners that they offer the most advantageous deals and they should immediately purchase it. This is not always the case. Dealing with agents isn’t a problem when shopping online for car insurance. Users can check prices, discounts, and do some research about some terms and conditions. Furthermore, users should always use online quotes to compare prices before buying anything.
  • Save money when buying online car insurance. To encourage people to purchase car insurance policies online, insurers, in collaboration with partners, offer lucrative discounts. Drivers can get a small discount for getting quotes or buying coverage online.
  • The user becomes insured as soon as the transaction is completed. After the purchase is finished, the client is automatically insured. The client will receive a digital copy of proof of insurance. He can save this copy to any of his mobile devices or print it. The digital copy can be shown whenever asked by authorities. In this way, there is no risk of being caught driving without insurance.

Georgia Elementary School Teacher Named National Life Group’s ‘LifeChanger of the Year’ Grand Prize Winner for the 2019-2020 School Year

“Eric is no doubt among the best…We are inspired by his commitment to preparing and empowering his students to become tomorrow’s activists, leaders, and changemakers.”

Eric Crouch, a fifth grade teacher at Double Churches Elementary School in Columbus, GA, has been selected as the Grand Prize Winner for the 2019-2020 national LifeChanger of the Year award.

Nominated by his school principal, Crouch earned the national Grand Prize–which includes a $10,000 cash prize–for his ability to connect students to their passions and empower them to make a difference. He was chosen for the award out of more than 850 nominated teachers, administrators and school district employees from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

“Mr. Crouch teaches his students and colleagues that the world is their community. He has found his gift, and that gift is connecting students to their passions and giving them a space and a voice to make a difference in the world,” said Paula Shaw-Powell, principal, Double Churches Elementary School. ‘Love first, teach second,’ ‘we are all here to help one another,’ and “the whole world belongs to each of us,’ these are just a few of the many things you will hear Mr. Crouch saying through the hallways of Double Churches.”

Crouch was moved to become an educator after his own struggles in school due to attention issues. As a result of his experiences, he made it his mission to engage his students and give each of them equal opportunity to discover their passions and use them as a vehicle for achievement. To that end, he uses a variety of methods to help his students’ enthusiasm take off, including a Project-Based Learning model in his classroom that encourages innovation and creativity.

He also encourages his students to channel their passions into serving the community and making a difference. When Hurricane Michael devastated a nearby community in 2016, he and a few of his students immediately took action. They traveled to Bay County, Florida, to interview teachers and other individuals impacted by the hurricane, and create a documentary to spread awareness for the thousands of families who had been displaced. After being shared by thousands on social media, the documentary drove close to two million dollars in donations to Bay County School District.

Crouch’s community work with his students has made a global impact. As a Skype Master Teacher, he leads his classes to engage in Skype collaborations with students from around the world.

When his students connected to HIP Academy in Kenya for a cultural learning exchange, it soon became clear that there was much more they could contribute. Together, they founded a 3D-printing non-profit and raised thousands of dollars to build a school in Kimilili. With the success of this project, Crouch’s students also donated 10 iPads to the students at HIP so they could create an iPad lab for the school.

He also encouraged his students to experiment with their own 3D-printing projects, such as creating 3D prosthetics for pets and working with engineers to create robotic stuffed animals to teach students how to communicate their social and emotional needs.

“We’ve all been reminded of the importance of our teachers during these times,” said Mehran Assadi, CEO and President of National Life Group. “Eric is no doubt among the best of these selfless educators. We are inspired by his commitment to preparing and empowering his students to become tomorrow’s activists, leaders, and changemakers.”

InsCipher Announces Orange Partnership with Vertafore

Surplus Lines Taxes

InsCipher’s CONNECT system now fully integrates with Vertafore AIM

InsCipher’s goal is to simplify surplus lines management for states and agencies. Working with Vertafore helps us achieve that goal

Today InsCipher, a Utah-based software company specializing in surplus lines filing management, announced it has joined Vertafore’s Orange Partner Program. The partnership kicks off with a Vertafore AIM™ integration. With the new integration, AIM users’ policy data will transfer directly into InsCipher’s Connect™ system, for easy surplus lines filing and reporting.

InsCipher currently has API batch-file capability to 13 states, including California, Texas, New York, and Florida. Several more states will be added in the coming months. InsCipher hosts the state surplus lines portals systems for both Utah (slaut.org) and Idaho, and Connect™ users are therefore linked to those states automatically.

“This partnership represents a milestone for InsCipher in bringing our one-of-a-kind-solution to the E&S sector,” stated Daniel Steadman, InsCipher’s Vice President. He continues: “Connect™ provides the E-file features that AIM users need while enhancing their surplus lines tax management as a whole.” Steadman notes that state E-filing is only one part of InsCipher’s functionality. “InsCipher’s goal is to simplify surplus lines management for states and agencies. Working with Vertafore helps us achieve that goal.”

Connect’s expanded capabilities include tools to automate surplus lines tax filing and reporting. As policies are uploaded from AIM into Connect™, the system automatically creates a filing and reporting task schedule based on policy data, taking into account each states’ specific requirements. Connect™ helps prepare filings for submission, with built-in surplus lines tax calculation and reconciliation tools. Furthermore, as a cloud-based system, Connect™ allows companies to centralize filing activities across multiple offices and sub-agencies.

Connect’s™ state rules, rates, dates, and requirements are kept up to date by InsCipher’s full-compliance team, who monitor changes at the state level and update the system accordingly.

“We partnered with InsCipher because we share a mutual goal of making Insurance management and reporting easier for everyone,” stated Doug Mohr, Vertafore’s vice president of industry relations & partnerships.“ The Connect™ platform is a strategic addition to our integrated tool offerings, which adds to our already impressive group of Vertafore Orange Partners. It was important for Vertafore to find a partner that provides a high level of convenience and dependability to our customers. We found that in InsCipher.”
