BHCOE Announces Dr. Ellie Kazemi as Chief Science Officer

I am very excited to consult as chief scientist with BHCOE, and to collaborate with a wide variety of constituents.

Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) is excited to welcome Ellie Kazemi, PhD, BCBA-D as consulting Chief Science Officer. Dr. Kazemi is a tenured professor at California State University, Northridge where she teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework in behavior analysis, organizational behavior management, and research methodology.

Says Dr. Kazemi, “I am very excited to consult as chief scientist with BHCOE, and to collaborate with a wide variety of constituents including behavioral health organizations and leaders, BHCOE evaluators, researchers, and the community to develop standards and ignite large scale research contributions in the areas of staff training and retention, supervisory skills and experience, and clinical treatment outcomes.”

Sara Litvak, Chief Executive Officer at BHCOE, recognizes the impact that Dr. Kazemi’s experience in data analysis will bring to the organization.

“As a recognized leader across the field of behavioral analysis research, Ellie is a great fit for Chief Science Officer. She plays a critical role in reviewing the reliability and validity of BHCOE measurement tools while helping identify key outcomes and benchmarks for behavior analysis providers.”

Dr. Kazemi founded CSU Northridge’s Master of Science program in Applied Behavior Analysis. In addition to her lines of research, she has applied experience collaborating with the clinical community to provide high quality practical training and supervision experiences.

Her research interests and publications are focused on developing psychometrically reliable and valid measurement systems, leveraging advanced technology (robotics, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence) to increase efficiency and accessibility of training, developing effective computer-based clinical training, decreasing voluntary turnover of clinical staff and supervisors, and increasing leadership’s skills including giving effective performance feedback and resolving workplace conflict.

Dr. Kazemi has received several mentorship awards including the ABAI Best Mentor Award, the Outstanding Teaching Award, the Outstanding Service Award, and the Outstanding Faculty Award (deemed the highest honored achievement). She has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics including training, staff turnover, and the use of technology in behavior analysis. She is the leading author of a handbook written for both supervisors and supervisees titled, ‘Supervision and Practicum in Behavior Analysis: A Handbook for Supervisees.’
