China Media Group Signs MOUs with NHL and USTA to Promote Sports Cooperation

China Media Group (CMG) announces a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the U.S. National Hockey League (NHL) and the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s trip to San Francisco to attend the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. The agreements cover media rights, technology innovation and sports exchanges.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — CGTN America releases “China Media Group Signs MOUs with NHL and USTA to Promote Sports Cooperation”.

China Media Group (CMG) announces a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the U.S. National Hockey League (NHL) and the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s trip to San Francisco to attend the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. The agreements cover media rights, technology innovation and sports exchanges.

CMG President Shen Haixiong signed Memorandums of Understanding with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and USTA CEO Lew Sherr, respectively, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.

“Winter is approaching the Northern Hemisphere, and winter sports are starting to heat up. Although the winter is cold, a variety of winter sports brings people together and makes them feel exciting and warm,” Shen Haixiong said at his meeting with Bettman.

China now has more than 300 million people engaged in winter sports after Beijing hosted the 2022 Winter Olympic Games – making Beijing the world’s first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. The historic Winter Games helped make ice hockey a household name in China. Both CMG and the NHL see broad prospects for cooperation.

Shen said he hopes that the two sides will deepen their ties with cutting-edge broadcast technology and integrated media coverage. Together they can make ice hockey a new bond in China-U.S. sports and people-to-people exchanges, he added.

Bettman said he greatly appreciated CMG’s support. CMG broadcasts have enhanced the popularity of the NHL games in China, he said. He expressed hope that the two sides will increase their long-term cooperation, expand joint broadcast platforms, while hosting ice hockey activities for Chinese fans.

CMG and USTA also agreed to strengthen media rights cooperation, to co-host tennis matches, and promote the sport for young people in China. Both sides said their all-round cooperation reflects the wide popularity of tennis in China and the United States.

The NHL was founded in 1917 and currently has 32 teams. It is considered to be the top professional ice hockey league in the world. Founded in 1881, the USTA has sponsored countless tennis matches at all levels in the U.S., including the U.S. Open – one of the world’s four Grand Slam tennis championships.

Mount Sinai Researchers Find More Than 4,700 Gene Clusters Crucial for Prognosis in 32 Cancer Types

NEW YORK, Nov. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Researchers at the Mount Sinai Center for Transformative Disease Modeling have released a groundbreaking study identifying 4,749 key gene clusters, termed “prognostic modules,” that significantly influence the progression of 32 different types of cancer. The study, published in Genome Research, serves as a comprehensive resource and lays the foundation for the development of next-generation cancer treatments and diagnostic markers.

Despite significant progress in cancer research, understanding the disease’s genetic intricacies remains challenging. Previous research often focused on isolated gene functions in specific cancer types.

“We aimed to fill this knowledge gap by providing a comprehensive analysis of gene-gene interactions across various forms of cancer,” said Bin Zhang, PhD, Willard T.C. Johnson Research Professor of Neurogenetics and Director of the Mount Sinai Center for Transformative Disease Modeling.

The team used a multi-omics approach, incorporating genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic data in their analysis. They employed advanced systems biology approaches to analyze more than 10,000 patient samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), one of the most comprehensive public cancer databases, and used rigorous network methods to identify and validate the gene clusters that have a significant impact on cancer prognosis.

“The implications of our findings are profound. We have identified 4,749 distinct co-regulated gene modules that play a pivotal role in cancer progression,” explained Dr. Zhang.

Peng Xu, PhD, Instructor of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and co-senior author, added: “Our study goes beyond merely identifying these modules. It also elucidates the multi-scale regulations that govern their functions.”

In simpler terms, the study has identified critical genes and their complex relationships that either halt or promote cancer progression. This new understanding opens the door for targeted research and development of future treatments and diagnostic methods for cancers.

While this study represents a significant step forward, it is not an immediate cure for cancer. However, it serves as a crucial foundation for developing targeted therapies that could lead to improved patient outcomes. “Our findings offer fertile ground for the next wave of cancer research and treatment strategies,” said Dr. Zhang.

The paper is titled “Multiscale network modeling reveals the gene regulatory landscape driving cancer prognosis in 32 cancer types.”

Kovrr Releases First-Of-Its-Kind, Cyber Materiality Report Solution to Drive Compliance & Enforce Bottom Line Impact of Cyber Attacks to Propel Preventative Strategies

Yakir Golan, Kovrr CEO, warns, “Governing cybersecurity requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. Organizations need to be proactive and well-prepared to disclose material events swiftly, providing tangible metrics necessary.”

The Cyber Materiality Report supplies corporations with this measurable, defensible data that equips cybersecurity leaders to confidently communicate their cyber posture and initiate discussions with legal counsel and the board of directors regarding materiality criteria.

Kovrr’s Groundbreaking Approach to Materiality

Kovrr is the first cybersecurity vendor to release an automated solution that arms companies to develop unambiguous definitions of material loss and stay ahead of the most potentially damaging cyber incidents with timely, detailed disclosures.

To address this challenge, Kovrr’s risk experts conducted a comprehensive analysis of corporations worldwide across various industries and concluded that the best practices for determining materiality begin with a basis point of revenue. After quantifying an organization’s cyber risk, the Materiality Report identifies that point on a loss curve and highlights the likelihood of experiencing an event of that magnitude.

Bridging the Gap Between Cybersecurity and the Board

The recent uptick in cybersecurity reporting regulations demands greater collaboration between CISOs and board members who, more than ever, need to remain aligned on organizational cyber risk and mitigation plans.

The Cyber Materiality Report fosters this relationship, creating a shared understanding of the companies’ material cyber risks. With this information, cyber teams and the board can work together to develop data-driven frameworks, making the organization more resilient and better prepared against looming attacks.

Rapid Cyber Insights to Save Critical Resources

With cybersecurity budgets set to tighten, it’s essential for teams to optimize their resources. Kovrr’s cutting-edge cyber risk models employ automated calculations to determine materiality thresholds, eliminating the need for manual data collection and analysis. Instead, organizations can invest that valuable time into threat mitigation.

Kovrr’s novel Materiality Report is also designed to be accessible to executives without a statistical background, facilitating more transparent communications regarding risk prioritization and material incident response planning.

The Power of Financial Benchmarks

When discerning material risks, it’s also beneficial for organizations to contextualize findings by comparing thresholds to those of similar companies. Metrics like financial loss and the likelihood of event occurrence vary by sector, offering insights into the organization’s specific cyber landscape.

For instance, Kovrr’s Fortune 1000 Cyber Risk Report reveals that the Oil, Gas Extraction, and Mining sector exhibits the highest probability of experiencing a material cyber event, even though the anticipated financial impacts remain relatively modest. This comparative insight supports more strategic materiality assessments.

The Key to Material Clarity in 2024

As 2024 draws nearer and the number of cyber attacks rises, establishing a clear definition of materiality is paramount for organizations, particularly those facing increased regulations.

Kovrr’s one-of-a-kind Cyber Materiality Report helps companies quantify their cyber risk and foster the necessary collaboration between security teams and the boardroom to determine appropriate material loss thresholds.

This groundbreaking CRQ tool is poised to play a vital role in shaping how organizations approach cyber materiality reporting, enabling them to meet fiduciary obligations, optimize resources, and build trust by showcasing their commitment to robust cybersecurity practices.

Vectorworks, Inc., MA Lighting and Robe Lighting Announce DIN SPEC 15801 Recognition for MVR

DIN Spec Validates MVR as the Standard for Streamlining Data Information & 3D Model Exchange in the Entertainment Industry.

COLUMBIA, Md., Nov. 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — With fellow General Device Type Format (GDTF) and My Virtual Rig (MVR) founders MA Lighting and Robe Lighting, global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. proudly announces that DIN SPEC 15801 officially recognizes MVR as an open standard for the entertainment industry worldwide. This groundbreaking development unlocks a new world of limitless opportunities for entertainment industry professionals to collaborate and efficiently bring their creative visions to life.

“The accomplishment of DIN SPEC 15801 marks a significant milestone in the continuous evolution of GDTF and MVR, as well as the overall advancement of the entertainment industry,” said Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar. “Since its inception, MVR has made remarkable progress in meeting the needs of manufacturers and designers through a standardized approach to data and 3D model exchange. This latest recognition further proves our unwavering commitment to unifying the entertainment industry and equipping professionals with the necessary tools for success.”

Developed to facilitate interoperability and data exchange to unify the entertainment industry, MVR has several advantages that deliver critical benefits to both manufacturers and end users. MVR supports full scene description, so for manufacturers, information is all in one easy-to-share, easy-to-maintain file, and users don’t need to worry about losing information between different departments. Because MVR is based on GDTF, the file format has its advantages built-in, including an extensive database with information that can be shared between other applications.

With the ability to communicate directly on local area networks, MVR provides manufacturers hassle-free communication between various applications across all genres and enables efficient collaboration between end users. Allowing the exchange of full environments, MVR lets manufacturers share the same venue or stage between audio, lighting and video planning. At the same time, users can streamline their workflows, creating basic information once to use it multiple times. Plus, MVR maintains kinematic chains, ensuring accurate sub-fixture handling and seamless object correspondence.

“Step by step, we are shaping an industry standard, always with an open ear to the people we are trying to serve. We get a lot of feedback from people who are supportive of the project but also from those who are more concerned with the many small and large things that are not yet perfect,” said Gerhard Krude, managing director of MA Lighting Technology. “We all have enough to do in our day-to-day jobs, but to see an idea grow from its logical origins into something that many people are now working with daily is enough positive feedback to keep this open project moving forward. From our point of view, it is very satisfying to be part of this movement.”

Now, MVR will be a standard foundation for exchanging extended device and environmental data between lighting consoles, CAD and 3D pre-visualization applications, reflecting the real-world physical components of a show setup and the logical patch information of the devices. Like the truck that takes gear to a venue, MVR is the container file that holds all the information about a scene or stage, including GDTF data, patch information, location of objects and other crucial information.

“Since its original release when accompanying the GDTF publication, the My Virtual Rig format has become an industry standard for exchanging stage data between planning tools, visualizers, and consoles, allowing designers and show artists to move fast between ideas, drawings and live stages,” said Josef Valchar, CEO of Robe Lighting. “With the many months-long work on the DIN specification, industry-wide input was carefully considered. While ensuring that the standard follows best industry practices, the feedback was incorporated into the MVR interchange format and communication protocol, now released with the official DIN recognition.”

DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, is the independent platform for standardization in Germany and worldwide. A DIN SPEC is a document specifying requirements for products, services and/or processes, and it’s a trusted strategic instrument for quickly and easily establishing and disseminating innovative solutions that do not conflict with existing standards or rules of procedure.

In 2020, DIN officially recognized GDTF as a specification, DIN SPEC 15800, becoming the standard for describing any controllable device’s hierarchical and logical structure in the lighting and entertainment industry. While it solved the issue of unifying the descriptions of devices and enabled applications to exchange planning data based on GDTF files, the new MVR specification unifies the information exchange of all this data within the context of a 3D modeled environment.

“We are very happy about this further cooperation with the GDTF group. After DIN SPEC 15800, this is the next step to make GDTF and MVR’s great opportunities available as freely accessible standards for the entertainment industry,” said Michael Bahr, senior project manager at DIN. “We are very thankful that the group once again acknowledged the importance of standards and set trust in the development of DIN SPEC 15801. With MVR and GDTF described as DIN SPEC, they can be used widely as trusted and transparent developed documents.”

To learn more about GDTF and MVR, visit gdtf-share.com, and if you are at LDI 2023, stop by booth 1653 or attend the free learning sessions on GDTF & MVR. You can also view and download DIN SPEC 15801, published by Beuth Verlag, here and read it in its entirety at github.com/mvrdevelopment.

eddii, a gamified diabetes app, has now launched in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, and Kansas

“With the launch of our upcoming virtual care feature, parents will be able to schedule an appointment with a licensed pediatric endocrinologist at the tap of a button, on the same fun, engaging app that streams their child’s real-time glucose data from their Dexcom CGM,” said Farhaneh Ahmadi, PhD, eddii’s CEO.

Achieving optimal glucose for children with diabetes requires round-the-clock management. There are hundreds of decisions to make every day; monitoring blood glucose changes and considering all the factors besides food and insulin that affect blood glucose. This in addition to making decisions on how to interpret nutrition labels, what monitor to use, how to wear it correctly and deal with any chafing or discomfort, how to prepare for a school field trip or a sleepover, and on and on. Every day it’s something different. And every single day it must be managed.

eddii is a virtual in-app character designed to engage people living with type-1 diabetes (T1D) and wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to track their health. Using games, educational character-led activities, and AI-enabled conversation (coming soon!), eddii becomes a smart, virtual health buddy, giving users real-time feedback, support, and in-app rewards in return for healthy behavior.

Earlier this year, eddii entered a real-time API partnership with Dexcom, which allowed the app to integrate with the users’ real-time Dexcom CGM readings, delivering updates on blood glucose levels. eddii is currently available in the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, and Nebraska. For those outside of these states, you can join the eddii’s early access program here. As of today, eddii has over 15,000 families and individual using CGMs on its waitlist.

With eddii, children and their families take managing diabetes to a different level, motivating them to stick to healthy routines. Over time, eddii becomes the user’s personal health buddy, cheering them on, challenging them and celebrating their achievements. With eddii, users play fun games, can request support, and receive daily rewards on the same interface that displays their real-time CGM data.

“We will soon be launching further motivational games and rewards for children, such as real-life gift cards, in addition to glucose alert phone calls and a comprehensive virtual care platform for parents. That way, parents can have a reliable interface at the tip of their hands to manage their child’s diabetes.”

eddii conducted a clinical trial where 92 children with T1D and their families were enrolled in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) using Dexcom CGM. Outcomes from the trial showed a statistically significant 5% improvement in Time In Range (TIR), roughly translating into 1.5 additional hours every day of optimal glucose levels for children living with T1D.

In addition to launching in two states and partnering with Dexcom, eddii recently closed a $2.5M seed round led by Kapor Capital, with participation from Atento Capital, MedMountain Ventures (MMV), StartUp Health, and angel investors.
