Specific Diagnostics Announces First French Tender Award and LIS Connectivity

[ad_1]

Specific Reveal Rapid AST System

Specific Reveal Rapid AST System

“Last year we completed several performance studies with Reveal Rapid AST in France, but our goal was always focused on improving patient care and reducing antibiotic resistance,” said Mr. Scott O’Brien, Chief Commercial Officer of Specific.

Specific Diagnostics today announced its first French tender award for the Reveal Rapid AST Blood Culture Gram-Negative Sensor Panel. Following the completion of several Reveal Rapid AST performance studies in France, several of these sites are now progressing to clinical use.

“A group of our early adopter sites are working together to generate clinical impact data driven by rapid AST. These interventional studies will directly measure the impact of antibiotic escalation and de-escalation on patient care while also gauging the impact on antimicrobial stewardship and dosing regimens,” said Mr. Scott O’Brien, Chief Commercial Officer of Specific.

“Last year we completed several performance studies with Reveal Rapid AST in France, but our goal was always focused on improving patient care and reducing antibiotic resistance. Our France team has just achieved this first milestone toward our vision of improving the lives of patients,” added O’Brien.

Related to commercial activity in France, Specific has also completed its first successful bi-directional connection of the Reveal system to GLIMS, the most widely used LIS in Europe1. “From the early stages of development we knew data management and instrument connectivity in the hospital are a critical requirement for realizing lab efficiency and optimal patient benefit. As a result, we designed the Reveal system and software with functionality and flexibility for broad LIS connectivity,” said Elias Fayad, VP Software Engineering.

For more information and the opportunity to receive a demonstration of the Reveal Rapid AST system, Specific Diagnostics will be attending the upcoming Institute of BioMedical Science Congress in Birmingham, UK and the 32nd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases in Lisbon, Portugal.

About Specific

Specific Diagnostics has developed in vitro diagnostic systems based upon a unique, patented metabolomic signature technology that enables rapid detection and identification of microorganisms as they grow in culture. Its first commercial application applies this fundamental new platform to the rapid determination of antimicrobial susceptibility directly from positive blood cultures, as well as isolate dilutions. Senzo Education Poll confirms the need for new, better rapid tests for COVID-19

[ad_1]

“This poll provides further evidence of the need for better rapid testing to get the world back to normal, and Senzo is poised to deliver our ALF COVID-19 test to achieve this,” says Senzo CEO Jeremy Stackawitz.

A new survey conducted on behalf of Senzo, a leading in vitro diagnostics company, reports that approximately one third (28%) of educators have received false results from rapid COVID-19 tests in the past, and more than two thirds (83%) of respondents indicated that more accurate tests would increase their confidence in physically attending school, suggesting a strong need for better rapid COVID-19 tests.

As the developer of a breakthrough Amplified Lateral Flow (ALF) Test for COVID-19 with 10,000 times better sensitivity than existing tests, Senzo conducted this poll to gain insight into the opinions of educators, who due to the nature of their work, are often at a high risk of exposure to the virus.

The poll, conducted online in January 2022 among a group of 100 US and UK adults ages 18 and older who are actively employed in the education sector, also found that 70% believe that accurate rapid testing is very important and 66% think a more accurate rapid test would be very beneficial. These results continue to substantiate the importance of Senzo’s mission to bring a better rapid-testing COVID-19 product to market.

“This poll provides further evidence of the need for better rapid testing to get the world back to normal, and Senzo is poised to deliver our ALF COVID-19 test to achieve this,” added Senzo CEO, Jeremy Stackawitz.

The survey produced notable results, broken down into the following categories:

  • Experience with misleading test results – Nearly one-third (28%) of respondents reported getting either a false positive or false negative result from a rapid test for COVID-19 at least once in the past. This further confirms Senzo’s stance that current rapid testing is not where it should be in terms of accuracy.
  • Testing accuracy importance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 – Senzo’s poll also shows that 70% of respondents feel that accurate COVID-19 testing is “very important” in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
  • Testing accuracy in relation to educator confidence – Senzo’s poll shows that 83% of adults employed in education would feel more confident attending school with their students and coworkers, or attending social gatherings, if they had access to more accurate testing. More than half of those surveyed (44%) said it would make them “much more confident,” while 39% said it would make them “moderately more confident.”
  • Overall benefit of more accurate testing – When asked how beneficial overall they think a more accurate rapid COVID test would be for educators and students, the clear majority (66%) said it would be “very beneficial,” while 28% admitted it would at least be “moderately beneficial.” Only 8% of respondents said it “would not make a significant difference.”

Accurate, rapid testing is key to the safety of teachers, students, and other school faculty members, but Senzo finds that current lateral flow tests are not sufficiently accurate (only 57.5% accurate according to independent evaluations conducted by UK NHS Test and Trace professionals), and PCR tests can take days to get results. Senzo’s ALF, soon to be widely available, solves these problems by combining the speed, affordability, and simplicity of a 7-minute lateral flow rapid antigen home-test with the accuracy of professional PCR technology.

About: Senzo is an in vitro diagnostics company developing innovative, accurate, and accessible testing products. Senzo was founded with the vision of utilizing novel technologies, with a focus on enhanced sensitivity, to create mobile, point-of-care products and devices with the ability to accurately, quickly, and cost-effectively conduct testing where healthcare professionals and patients need it most. Senzo is creating game-changing products and systems which bring testing to the patient, eliminating the need for the current slow, expensive central-lab testing paradigms. With insights generated at the point of care, patients can make better decisions faster, and healthcare professionals can identify life-threatening diseases at an earlier stage, improving treatment outcomes and saving lives.

Mytonomy Announces Cardiology Content and Platform That Meets Patients Wherever They Are & New Partnership with MedAxiom

[ad_1]

“By educating patients before, during and after the visit, providers can save staff time while reducing patient anxiety and improving cardiac outcomes,” said Anjali Kataria, Mytonomy CEO and co-founder.

Mytonomy, known for raising the bar in video-based patient-engagement content and platform, is leveraging its capabilities in the cardiology space with its new Cloud for Cardiology. Featuring the most comprehensive catalog of cardiology videos in the industry, Cloud for Cardiology unpacks procedures and cardiac conditions in a patient-friendly format, while serving provider’s needs as well.

The entire 700+ title microlearning video library can easily be accessed through Mytonomy’s platform, which integrates seamlessly with a provider’s existing clinical workflows. Mytonomy delivers intelligent nudging, notifications and messages to activate patients throughout their care journey and support post discharge Remote Patient Monitoring programs, like those for heart failure and other conditions.

Topics available are related to commonly performed diagnostic testing as well as surgical and interventional cardiac therapies. This is paired with an extensive review of cardiometabolic conditions including diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Microlearning videos are designed to deliver essential information to patients in an appealing format, short enough to encourage patients to watch all the way through.

Developed in partnership with leading heart centers, each Mytonomy microlearning video is essentially an extension of the patient’s care team, answering questions and addressing concerns, without increasing clinicians’ workloads. Mytonomy drives improvement in clinical outcomes and patient experience. Multiple validated studies across major medical conditions including cardiac care have demonstrated high engagement, better results, and increased patient satisfaction. A multi-site study conducted across three major academic centers also showed improved results in cardiovascular risk factors.

“Mytonomy provided exceptional content on hypertension and hyperlipidemia for our cardiovascular remote health program,” says Dr. Christopher Cannon, Education Director of Cardiovascular Innovation at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. “In addition, we are very impressed by the development process for new medical videos that we developed together. Our patients responded positively to the video content that helped them work on their cardiac health.”

Along with patient education, Cloud for Cardiology features cardiac-related surveys that can be deployed through patient portals or sent directly to patients via email or SMS. Patients can take quality of life surveys, learn the purpose of the surveys and results are recorded in their chart. Survey data can be analyzed individually or in aggregate.

Mytonomy’s commitment to cardiology is evidenced by its partnership with MedAxiom, the cardiovascular community’s premier source for organizational performance solutions. “Mytonomy’s mission is to educate and empower people to actively engage in their health,” said Joe Sasson PhD, MedAxiom’s EVP of Ventures. “With their solutions, providers can save valuable time while improving patient outcomes. We are proud to welcome Mytonomy as a MedAxiom Industry Partner and bring their deep cardiovascular solutions to our membership community.”

“Mytonomy’s novel CRM is an essential part of a healthcare system’s digital front door strategy for cardiac care. By educating patients before, during and after the visit, providers can save staff time while reducing patient anxiety and improving cardiac outcomes,” said Anjali Kataria, Mytonomy CEO and co-founder. “Our partnership with MedAxiom will open up more ways the cardiovascular community can engage patients throughout their care journey.”

Mytonomy is an industry leader in applying the science of microlearning to medical education videos. Mytonomy’s internal medical team ensures that content is accurate, credible and vetted by leading subject matter experts in multidisciplinary cardiac care. Keeping production values high — peer reviewed scripts, compelling graphics, and relatable on-camera talent — makes sure patients are not merely engaged; they’re entertained and empowered to partner in their own health.

Local Non-Profit Partners with Rock Legend to Fight Rare Disease

[ad_1]

“Inclusion Body Myositis and other rare diseases affect more than 350 million people globally, yet we still know so little about many of these diseases,” said Grammy Award winning artist Peter Frampton.

Harmony 4 Hope, a non-profit organization merging music and storytelling to provide funding for the research of rare diseases, is teaming up with Grammy Award winner and NYT Best Selling Author Peter Frampton to raise awareness for rare disease.

Together with the Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and sponsor Horizon Therapeutics, Harmony 4 Hope is proud to welcome Peter Frampton as a guest at their upcoming Rare Storytellers event as he shares his story of living with Inclusion Body Myositis and his diagnostic journey.

“We could not be more pleased to welcome Peter Frampton as a Rare Storyteller,” said Kerry Hughes, Executive Director of Harmony 4 Hope. “Rare Storytellers is a rapidly growing network of patients, musicians and medical professionals currently representing over 30 rare diseases. Adding a strong voice like Peter Frampton’s shows just how impactful these diseases are, and how critical the research being done to cure them is.”

Peter Frampton, one of the most celebrated artists in rock history, was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM), a rare autoimmune disease, in 2015. Following his diagnosis, Frampton partnered with Johns Hopkins, the facility where he is currently being treated, to create The Peter Frampton Myositis Research Fund at Johns Hopkins. The Fund is dedicated to improving the lives of more than 24,000 patients currently living with IBM and to, ultimately, find a cure.

“Inclusion Body Myositis and other rare diseases affect more than 350 million people globally, yet we still know so little about many of these diseases,” said Grammy Award winning artist Peter Frampton. “Where there is education, there is a greater chance for funding and advancing research.”

Held annually on the last day of February, World Rare Disease Day offers people across the globe a chance to come together to celebrate and recognize the over 7,000 Rare Diseases that collectively impact over 350,000,000 around the world. Rare Storytellers, a division of Harmony 4 Hope created for the purpose of educating on Rare Diseases through songs, stories and science, is taking measures to ensure this year’s celebration is extra special.

In addition to a featured discussion between Kerry Hughes and Peter Frampton, this year’s event will feature Dr. Lisa Christopher-Stine, associate professor at John Hopkins School of Medicine and Peter Frampton’s physician, to share more about IBM and its impact on those affected by the disease.

The musical performance for this event will be given by H4H Musical Ambassador, Peter Dankelson. Peter was diagnosed with Goldenhar Syndrome, also known as Oculo-Auriculo-Vertebral Syndrome (OAVS) at a young age. Peter is a musician and motivational speaker for Pete’s Diary and just published his autobiography, How I Learned to Rock My Life in January 2022.

This year’s event “Rare Storytellers: Meet Peter Frampton” will be hosted on March 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. CT. Registration for the event is open and available to the public here.

AdventHealth Ocala receives $1.7 million donation to launch Maternal Fetal Medicine program

[ad_1]

Michael and Kathleen Smith present AdventHealth Ocala leaders and the Gray family with a check to launch the Maternal Fetal Medicine program.

“This incredible showing of generosity from Michael Smith and his family supports us in our promise to continuously elevate the care of our community and serve families in a way they’ve never experienced before,” said AdventHealth Ocala President and CEO Joe Johnson.

AdventHealth Ocala is pleased to announce the introduction of the McKenzie Kearney Gray Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) program to elevate the pre- and post-natal care of high-risk pregnancy patients close to home. Currently, families must travel miles outside of Marion County to receive this highly specialized pregnancy related care. This program will allow families to remain in the AdventHealth system and receive world class care from nationally ranked AdventHealth for Women and AdventHealth for Children specialists, with expertise in the care of women with multiple high-risk pregnancy factors and babies who are born after high-risk pregnancies.

“As Marion County’s only obstetrics and neonatal intensive care unit, we are committed to investing in the programs, technology and teams to help us positively impact families for years to come,” said Joe Johnson, President and CEO, AdventHealth Ocala. “This incredible showing of generosity from Michael Smith and his family supports us in our promise to continuously elevate the care of our community and serve families in a way they’ve never experienced before.”

Maternal Fetal Medicine care teams work with the obstetrician and help guide practices to achieve the best possible outcome for complicated pregnancies. They identify risk factors during pregnancy such as the delivery of multiples, and other complicated risk factors such as maternal hypertension, diabetes, fetuses with birth defects and genetic issues to assist families in making the best plans for a safe delivery.

“We are excited to bring this program to Marion County through our partnership with AdventHealth Ocala. This will complement the specialized neonatology services that are already in place at AdventHealth Ocala’s level 2 NICU, staffed by board certified Neonatologists and specially trained Neonatal Nurse Practitioners,” said Rajan Wadhawan, MD, MMM, Senior Executive Officer for AdventHealth for Children and AdventHealth for Women. “Our program in Ocala will be a part of the extensive network of AdventHealth for Women and AdventHealth for Children in Orlando. This will allow us to bring the same high level of expertise to Marion County that is only available in bigger centers today.”

The MFM program at AdventHealth Ocala was funded in part by local philanthropists Michael and Kathleen Smith through a generous donation of $1.7 million to the AdventHealth Ocala Foundation in honor of McKenzie Kearney Gray, daughter of Ryan and Kait Gray, of Ocala. McKenzie was born premature and passed away days later.

“Since coming to Ocala my wife, Kathleen, and I have been moved by Ryan and Kait’s story,” said Michael Smith. “The past few years, we have honored McKenzie by contributing to the McKenzie’s Moment charitable organization. We were looking for opportunities to impact the lives of expecting parents in Marion County and we are privileged to participate in the establishment of AdventHealth Ocala’s Maternal Fetal Medicine program. Ocala is a special place, and this gift expresses our love and gratitude.”

The MFM program at AdventHealth Ocala will build on the health system’s robust network of neonatal and pediatric care services in Marion County. AdventHealth Ocala is home to world-class neonatal and pediatric services where nationally ranked AdventHealth for Children physicians care for the smallest patients. The hospital houses a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) which is staffed 24 hours a day with specialized neonatal care nurses and neonatologists. Additionally, AdventHealth Ocala has the area’s only pediatric cardiologist specializing in fetal echocardiograms for high-risk pregnancies in Marion County through AdventHealth for Children.

The program will officially start Fall 2022.
