IMAT Solutions Achieves Annual Recertification of Validated Data Stream Designation in NCQA Data Aggregator Validation Program

“Our ongoing recertification of NCQA Data Aggregator Validation designation reinforces how our platform improves the usability and quality of clinical data for payers and providers,” said Kurt Garbe, CEO of IMAT Solutions. “These expanded capabilities allow payers to achieve meaningful care and business outcomes, while also improving overall HEDIS reporting capabilities and STAR ratings.”

Validation also makes aggregated clinical data streams more valuable. Leveraging the consensus-based HEDIS audit process to prospectively validate clinical data flows, it promotes trust in aggregated clinical data assets and in the insights drawn from these data sources. It is a boost for payer/provider value-based contracting and in combination with new federal technology standards, makes many of its core features truly routine.

The certification allows IMAT’s Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) solution to ingest the clinical data obtained from provider EMRs on a real-time basis and prepares the data to be used as standard supplemental data in HEDIS reporting. As a result, no primary source verification is required for HEDIS reporting when health plans report data from Data Aggregator Validation validated sources.

Clinical Data Integration (CDI) is the foundation for the IMAT DaaS offering. IMAT Solutions was recently highlighted as a CDI vendor in Gartner’s “Clinical Data Integration Capabilities and Sourcing Recommendations for U.S. Healthcare Payers” report.

For its recertification in November 2023, IMAT Solutions recertified 59 providers across 8 EHR clusters. NCQA successfully certified the data and CCD content via primary source verification.

The North Carolina Partnership for Children Wins Aeroflow Breastpumps’ 5th Annual Pumping Room Makeover

“We are thrilled to provide The North Carolina Partnership for Children with the tools needed to create comfortable, inviting spaces for the incredible working mothers whose efforts directly impact and support the families that are a part of the NCPC,” says Jennifer Jordan, Vice President of Aeroflow Breastpumps, Director of Mom & Baby. “The stories the NCPC shared with us around their mission to ensuring the well-being of all of North Carolina’s youngest children, from birth to age five along with their families, aligns with our foundation at Aeroflow Breastpumps, and we couldn’t be happier to support the working parents in our home state.”

“We are very excited to be announced as Aeroflow Breastpumps’ winner this year, as we understand the critical importance of supporting our employees in their roles as parents,” says Amy Cubbage, president at The North Carolina Partnership for Children. “The generous donation from Aeroflow will allow us to develop and improve our pumping room for the many working mothers in our organization and give back to our employees who are working so diligently to provide safe, family-friendly spaces for the youngest North Carolinians and the moms and dads who care for and nurture them.”

In addition to the grand prize donation of $10,000, Aeroflow Breastpumps has also identified four other organizations throughout the U.S. from their list of entries who will receive a donation provided by Lansinoh of free breast pump supplies and accessories for their employees. The Pumping Room Makeover is an annual contest that Aeroflow Breastpumps began in August 2018 in response to an overwhelming amount of feedback from mothers who are tired of nursing and pumping in closets, bathrooms, conference rooms, the car, etc. throughout the workday. These challenging conditions often make it difficult for working moms to produce milk and ultimately forces many to choose between feeding their babies and going back to work. Aeroflow Breastpumps believes that no mother deserves to pump in a bathroom stall and strives to make a difference and create change within the workplace – one pumping room makeover at a time.

About Aeroflow Breastpumps
Aeroflow Breastpumps, a subsidiary of Aeroflow Healthcare, is a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider specializing in helping pregnant and nursing women qualify for their breast pump through their insurance. Its mission is to increase the instance of breastfeeding nationally through the best equipment, support and education, and exceptional customer service. Equality Health Foundation Announces Alliance with WHEN® Enterprises Corp. to Provide Well-Being Services to South Central Phoenix Families

“We have witnessed the success of the WHEN well-being model in action for the past several years and are looking forward to formally engaging WHEN as a strategic partner to enhance our ability to provide well-being services to those most in need in our community,” said Tomás León, Equality Health Foundation president.

“Well-being and balance are critical components in quality of life, and the WHEN model aligns perfectly with the array of services we will provide in the future,” León added.

The vast majority of WHEN clients who engage with well-being services provided report achieving at least one of their well-being goals, often within a matter of weeks. Monthly reports are provided to all partnering organizations, which includes retention statistics on a quarterly basis. Data is tracked over 12-month periods.

“Many people who aren’t fully satisfied with their lives and careers actually have some idea about what to do to change things,” said Randy Miller, founder of WHEN. “They may know why they’re unhappy or unhealthy, but struggle to make changes based on knowledge or discipline. We provide the process and the self-care structure that differs from the how and why.”

The alliance with Equality Health Foundation is another in a growing number of relationships that WHEN is forging with nonprofit organizations. “Nonprofit organizations often serve individuals who need the most help – and the key to helping underserved people help themselves is getting them back into a state of well-being and feeling better about themselves,” Miller added. “That’s what we do best.”

New Center for Disaster Philanthropy report finds disaster giving by largest U.S. foundations dipped in 2021

Overall, efforts that primarily addressed the needs of children and youth and ethnic and racial populations received the highest amount of funding from foundation and corporate donors.

“We are facing a time unlike any other in living memory: The scale, severity and sheer number of disasters threaten to overwhelm communities and those who seek to help them,” said Patricia McIlreavy, president and CEO of CDP. “While our data shows a promising increase in philanthropic generosity, for which we are thankful, it also shows that contributions are not nearly enough, and too often remain focused on immediate need over the long-term recovery support required for a community to thrive post-disaster.”

Key findings

In collaboration with Candid, CDP examined the disaster-related grantmaking in 2021 by private and community foundations, corporations and public charities in the U.S. and abroad.

Data showed that only $3 billion, or 2% of the $157 billion total philanthropic dollars in 2021, was disaster-related. A closer look found that:

  • Epidemics, notably the COVID-19 pandemic, were the most-supported disasters, receiving 82%.
  • Giving related to natural hazards, such as storms, earthquakes and wildfires, received 6% of funding.
  • For every $1 given to disasters, only 10¢ went towards resilience, risk reduction, preparedness, reconstruction and recovery efforts combined.
  • In the U.S., efforts that explicitly served children and youth received 19% funding, followed by 17% for ethnic and racial groups.
  • Among issue areas that intersect with disasters, health and human services received the most philanthropic funding, followed by education.
  • 2021 giving of the Candid’s Foundation 1000 outpaced 2012-2019.

Aside from the pandemic, other notable disasters in 2021 included Hurricane Ida, winter storms and tornado outbreaks in the U.S., Haiti earthquake, Typhoon Rai in the Philippines, and flooding in India, China, Europe and Afghanistan.

View the 2023 Measuring the State of Disaster Philanthropy infographic.

Takeaway for grantmakers

In a blog post, Tanya Gulliver-Garcia, CDP’s director of learning and partnerships, urges grantmakers to:

  • Continue to increase overall disaster giving to help meet the immediate and long-term needs of disaster-affected communities. We are witnessing more devastation from humanitarian crises and natural hazards, including those fueled by climate change. For many affected communities, especially for marginalized groups, the road to recovery is long and under-resourced.
  • Address the root causes of disparities in their grantmaking. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters last years and sometimes decades. They exacerbate underlying inequities, such as food and housing insecurity.
  • Build relationships with nonprofits responding to disasters before a disaster strikes their community. Preparedness helps reduce the time it takes to rebuild communities after a disaster. This includes strengthening the nonprofit infrastructure to handle the additional stresses a disaster poses.

About the data

Candid is a nonprofit that provides the most comprehensive data and insights about the social sector. CDP used Candid’s data, which included information from funders that reported their grantmaking directly; published media, including English-language news and press releases; and publicly available data sources, including grantmaker websites and IRS Forms 990 and 990-PF. 2021 is the latest available complete calendar year reporting from the IRS.

The data set includes cash grants, grants to individuals, program-related investments, and in-kind gifts with a monetary value from private and community foundations, corporations (including corporate giving programs), and public charities in FY 2021. U.S. and non-U.S. donors are included: Of 3,941 donors, 3,785 are based in the United States, representing 83% of dollars in the data set.

The Identity Theft Resource Center Predicts More ID Fraud, State Privacy Laws & Concerns Around AI in its 2024 Predictions

We also saw romance scams and relationship scams turn into heart-breaking stories from victims who contacted us. The dollar losses around these scams were as high as we have ever seen them. Finally, we saw no action from Congress around a comprehensive privacy and data security law in 2023, while more data breach notices lacked the actionable information people and businesses needed to protect themselves.

As we look towards 2024, we expect to see much discussion around AI-driven identity scams,” Velasquez continued. “We believe there will be new levels of identity crimes due to the record number of data breaches in 2023. With the increase in crimes, the emotional toll will continue to rise and assistance providers will struggle to help victims in this area. We also believe there will continue to be a movement for privacy laws but on the state level rather than the federal level. Regardless of what happens in 2024, we will help those who need it.”

The ITRC’s 2024 Predictions Include the Following:

1. The risk of AI-driven identity scams that impact large numbers of people will be overestimated, while the potential for targeted attacks on single or small groups of individuals will be underestimated. The greatest risk from generative AI will continue to be mis- and dis-information.
2. An unprecedented number of data breaches in 2023 by financially motivated and Nation/State threat actors will drive new levels of identity crimes in 2024, especially impersonation and synthetic identity fraud. That will, in turn, drive more adoption of biometric-based identity verification (not recognition) tools to prove people are who they claim to be.
3. More states will adopt comprehensive data privacy and security laws. Congress will not.
4. Privacy concerns over the use of biometrics will overshadow the legitimate use cases. Even though there are safe and ethical uses of biometrics in the authentication and verification space (provided they are consent-based and privacy-centric), lawmakers and the public will push back due to this lack of awareness and understanding.
5. The emotional toll of identity crimes will continue to increase, and assistance providers will struggle to meet the emotional recovery needs of victims. Identity crime victimization is too often classified as not creating trauma that requires support, despite the fact that our latest Consumer Impact Report notes that 16 percent of respondents contemplated suicide as a result of an identity crime.

Healthspan for All! Healthspan Action Coalition Expands to 120 Organizations Across the Spectrum of Advocacy, Science, Technology, Industry, Funding, and Media

“It’s time for healthspan to be recognized as a fundamental human right, thereby assuring that discoveries in healthy longevity will be delivered to all populations, sooner rather than later,” said Bernard Siegel, executive director of the Healthspan Action Coalition.

HSAC presents a bold action plan by activating a global public awareness campaign, patient advocacy movement and expert-driven innovative policy initiatives encompassing the acceleration and adoption across the spectrum of new technologies, including cellular reprogramming, gene editing, AI, tissue engineering, robotics, and more.

HSAC was founded by a team of seasoned patient advocates, including Bernard Siegel (who is also executive director of the Regenerative Medicine Foundation and founder and co-chair of the annual World Stem Cell Summit, which recently celebrated its 20th annual meeting with a focus on healthspan); Melissa King (the initial executive director at the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and head of field operations for the successful CIRM-funded $5.5 billion Prop 14 ballot campaign); and Sabrina Cohen (a noted SCI and stem cell research advocate).

“To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, ‘with public appreciation you can accomplish anything; without it, nothing can get done.’ HSAC is not just another collection of cause-related organizations,” said Siegel. “It represents a broad spectrum of thought leaders who are uniting with frontline advocates dedicated to the alleviation of vast human suffering in adults and children facing a host of afflictions and diseases associated with accelerated aging. This is a characteristic of nearly all diseases, regardless of age of onset; the aging process is the number one risk factor for disease and death. We support the swift adoption and deployment of the latest technologies, effectively removing unnecessary roadblocks, while at the same time respecting safe and ethically responsible norms. HSAC maintains the assets to accomplish these goals.”

“Much like a group of us observed and then worked to address back in the early 2000’s with stem cells, the healthspan and longevity field is one that needs to be elevated and better understood by the public,” said King. “It also needs support in light of policy influences and the unfortunate fact that not all claims to increase longevity are legitimate. But there are exciting developments in bona fide longevity and healthspan research, and true progress is within reach.”

HSAC welcomes like-minded organizations and support. To learn more about our activities, receive our newsletter or join the coalition, visit www.healthspanaction.org.

About Healthspan Action Coalition: HSAC is a nonprofit organization working on multiple levels to extend the global human healthspan. It unites a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the search for, development of, and delivery of new medical treatments aimed at extending not just the lifespan, but the period of life spent in good health and free of disease or disability. Together we’re assembling world-class advisory boards in the areas of science, policy, ethics and human rights. We communicate across social media channels, publish The Healthspan Compass newsletter and are creating novel opportunities for cross-connection, networking and mutual support across the stakeholder organizations and constituencies that have joined the Coalition. HSAC is moving the field forward by educating the public, providing a voice for all stakeholders, analyzing and suggesting policy initiatives to advance funding, removing roadblocks and providing the impetus to make healthspan a global policy. Our goal is healthspan for all!
