ATEN Embraces Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility through Innovative Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation System

These ambitious goals have been outlined in a series of precise action plans, one of which includes a substantial investment in energy conservation and renewable energy solutions. In 2021, ATEN marked a significant milestone by implementing a solar photovoltaic power generation system in its Thailand factory. The system, with a capacity of 334.8 KWp, began mass production in 2021 and entered trial operation in November 2022. Further demonstrating its commitment, ATEN also built a solar photovoltaic power generation system with a capacity of 170 KWp at its Xizhi factory headquarters. The system was officially operational by the end of the year, marking a substantial step towards ATEN’s sustainability goals.

“ATEN is resolutely committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility to reduce carbon emissions,” said Kevin Chen, President of ATEN. “In essence, we’re not just making strides towards a greener operation – we’re passionately influencing our employees and supply-chain partners to embrace and champion a greener lifestyle. Together, we’re paving the way for a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.”

Moreover, ATEN, holding complete ISO certifications including 9001, 14001, 27001, and 45001, is now focusing on obtaining ISO 14067 for Carbon Footprint Verification (CFV), to align with modern sustainability standards. Beyond certifications, ATEN is dedicated to helping people and partners achieve their sustainability goals by providing innovative solutions. This commitment is reflected in our support for environmental initiatives and in integrating energy conservation and carbon reduction into our daily operations, nurturing a culture of environmental responsibility.

Baldacci Family Vineyards Donates $17,000+ to Local Napa Charity

This year’s donation to local nonprofit Napa CASA will exceed $17,000. “It is with great pleasure that we support and donate to a local nonprofit each year and we feel strongly about selecting Napa CASA as this year’s recipient,” said winemaker Michael Baldacci. Napa CASA advocates for the best interest of children who have become dependents of the court for their safety and protection; they are the only organization in Napa County who serves this group of children by providing advocacy, support, and mentorship throughout the entire time the children are in foster care. “We hope this donation positively benefits the lives of many children and supports the foundation these children need to become confident, healthy, and happy adults.”

Baldacci Family Vineyards selected Napa CASA this year because family life is at the heart of the winery. Owner Thomas Baldacci is a husband, father, and grandfather to four grandchildren. He understands the importance of support and consistency in the lives of children and is thankful that his family can assist local children in need. “Raising children takes a lot of emotional, physical, and financial support. We are grateful to have selected an organization with such an important mission—one that directly impacts the lives of children for the better,” said Thomas Baldacci. “We anticipate that this donation will bring critical assistance to the children who need it most.”

Napa CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that “provides caring, stable and consistent adults to help children cope with adversity and develop resilience,” said Julie DiVerde, CEO of Napa CASA. “Long term, stable and positive relationships with a trained adult is the single most important factor influencing positive outcomes for children in foster care. CASA believes every child needs one person, one person that believes in them and who cares about them.”

DiVerde has already begun planning the allocation of the $17,000+ donation. “The generous donation will be used to support children in foster care and ensure every child has a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate),” said DiVerde. “CASA visits the child weekly and attends all meetings regarding the child—talking to the foster parent, school and social worker. Foster parents, teachers and social workers often change but CASA is consistent in the child’s life.”

The presence of Napa CASA in Napa County and their guidance and services for children in need is critical to the local community. “Napa CASA work is the most important work that can be done for children who are in foster care. Napa County is lucky to have this organization advocating for these children and we are thankful for the opportunity to donate upwards of $17,000 to them this holiday season,” said Michael Baldacci.

About Baldacci Family Vineyards

Baldacci Family Vineyards is a family-owned estate in the distinguished Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Winemaker Michael Baldacci meticulously crafts a portfolio of elegant and classically styled Cabernet Sauvignon that is approachable in its youth, while still maintaining the complexity and stamina to age. Bottles are limited-production and hail from renowned vineyards and appellations in Napa Valley, including estate-owned vineyards in Stags Leap District, Calistoga, and Diamond Mountain District. The Estate House in Stags Leap District offers intimate wine tasting experiences that aim to educate and foster community among guests. In its luxurious and comfortable setting, the Estate House invites guests to take in vineyard views, enjoy an approachable wine tasting experience, and learn about the family’s sustainability efforts.

About Napa CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)

The Napa Court Appointed Special Advocate program (CASA) is the only program in Napa County that serves children who through no fault of their own have been made dependents of the court for their safety and protection. Too many of these children face continual uncertainty and must navigate life’s challenges alone. Children who have been abused and neglected need and deserve the opportunity to hope for a better future – a future that includes the chance to succeed in life. This is where Napa CASA fulfills a critical role by providing advocacy, support and mentorship. Napa CASA volunteers are often the only consistent person in the child’s life throughout the entire time that the child is in foster care.

National University Partners with Jewish Family Service of San Diego to Expand Mobile Healthcare Clinic to Local Underserved Communities

National University announces partnership with Jewish Family Service of San Diego to positively impact healthcare outreach for the San Diego underserved community

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 19, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — National University (NU) — a nonprofit Minority Serving Institution that serves more than 130,000 learners annually through its degree and professional training programs — today announced a partnership with Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFSSD) to expand National University’s mobile clinic healthcare services to impact further the health and wellness needs of the San Diego community. This expansion is made possible by the 4-year $4 million grant, awarded in 2022, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), under the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR), in support of the National University Nurse Managed Clinic Project (NUNMC).

National University’s unique on-site mobile clinic, staffed by nurse practitioners and healthcare professionals, provides medical services, prescriptions, and lab work catering to those without homes or healthcare access. The NUNMC initiative utilizes an interprofessional health team approach through collaborations with trained professionals and faculty-supervised students and delivers primary and behavioral healthcare on-site in San Diego and Los Angeles communities, in association with clinical affiliates of National University such as community and faith-based organizations.

Partnering with the City of San Diego’s Safe Parking Program, operated by JFSSD, which provides 4 parking lots in San Diego (6 in total countywide) for individuals living out of their vehicles, will enable expanded healthcare to local underserved communities. This program ensures a safe overnight place and services that guide them toward more permanent housing and through this partnership will also provide healthcare in a safe and secure location.

“Jewish Family Service has been a committed and effective partner with the City of San Diego in providing unhoused San Diegans with safe places to sleep and connections to vital services and permanent housing,” Mayor Todd Gloria said. “National University’s new partnership with JFS to add mobile healthcare services makes our Safe Parking Program even more comprehensive.”

“NUNMC is proud to partner with HRSA once again in addressing communities where the healthcare disparity is extremely prevalent,” said Dr. Gloria J. McNeal, associate vice president for community affairs in health at National University. “The advancement of this project will also provide learning opportunities within the clinical and research curricula in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Master of Science in Nursing (BSN/MSN) programs and ensure the integration of community health concepts to increase diversity in the nursing workforce. We are pleased to announce our most recent partnership with Jewish Family Service of San Diego, which will provide opportunities for our NUNMC Team to deliver primary and mental health care for unsheltered patients and their families.”

“Jewish Family Service is thankful to partner with National University to provide on-site medical services, including primary healthcare and an advanced nurse practitioner,” said JFSSD CEO Michael Hopkins. “The majority of individuals within the Safe Parking Program are experiencing homelessness for the first time, and this mobile clinic is the perfect complement to the wrap-around services JFSSD provides, to help them into more secure housing.”

DSS Hires Robert L. Gordon III to Lead Artificial Intelligence Efforts

“This important hire enables DSS to continue tailoring our advanced technology to help our clients improve health care delivery and veteran outcomes,” said Mark Byers, president and CEO of DSS. “Rob is a proven leader, both during his military career and in the health care industry. His leadership helped SBG to become one of the fastest growing engineering, information technology, cybersecurity and AI service providers in the country. We look forward to the same kind of impact at DSS, particularly around the application of AI technology.”

AI represents an immense opportunity for the human race to improve workflows and efficiencies across industry sectors. It also presents many dangers since AI to date has not been aligned with the values of humanity. AI must be developed in a trustworthy and responsible way, and the recent Biden Administration Executive Order lays out important guidelines to ensure AI is used in appropriate ways.

For example, Emotion AI is a specialized form of AI that is specifically designed to detect, interpret and provide real-time feedback about our emotions. Emotion AI technology analyzes data based on voice characteristics or facial expressions. Properly implemented, Emotion AI technology has the potential to directly support specific VA suicide prevention efforts. One specific area of opportunity could be in support of the VA’s Veterans Crisis Line (VCL).

“I couldn’t be happier to be joining the amazing professionals that make up DSS,” said Mr. Gordon. “The development of AI technology is moving quickly, as shown by the current Administration’s most recent Executive Order. That EO is an important and wide-ranging step to ensuring responsible AI is used for worthy purposes, such as how it can positively impact Veteran suicide prevention efforts. I am excited to bring the power of AI to bear on solving our customers’ challenges. Our Veterans and their families deserve nothing but the best, and my mission to provide that for them will continue in this new position.”

No, that’s not the lead-in to a joke. Instead, it’s all part of a workshop that will be featured at this year’s Northeastern Weed Science Society (NEWSS) meeting January 7-11, 2024, in Boston.

Patricia Raun, director of Virginia Tech’s Center for Communicating Science, will lead a workshop in which participants will share the need to break down barriers and convey their expertise in a way that resonates with others.

Raun has worked extensively with scientists, engineers, and medical professionals to enhance their communication skills, and now she’s bringing her expertise to NEWSS members.

This session will stress the need to:

  •      Communicate with clarity and directness.
  •      Establish a personal connection with your audience.
  •      Foster spontaneity in your communication.
  •      Be responsive and adaptable in your interactions.

The NEWSS meeting also will include presentations examining various aspects of harvest weed seed control (HWSC). Michael Flessner, a Virginia Tech weed scientist, has found ways to reduce weed seedbank inputs in soybean and wheat production.

It’s particularly effective for weeds such as Palmer amaranth, which retain 90% of weed seeds. Seed impact mills used in HWSC can kill more than 97% of weed seeds that enter it in many cases with Class 8 combines. Various studies show a 30% reduction in weed density in the season following one HWSC event. However, testing of chaff lining and seed impact mills on commercial farms has had issues of material plugging the combine. This is mostly associated with green or high moisture harvest residues.

The meeting will also feature 92 titles including student poster and oral presentations and research posters that feature:

  •      Agronomic crops.
  •      Fruit, vegetable and tree crops.
  •      Turf, ornamental and non-crop.
  •      Weed ecology and invasive species.

A graduate student luncheon will be held on January 9, with a student quiz bowl slated on January 10.
