National Nutrition Expands Natural Body Care Department with Dr. Bronner’s

Canada’s award-winning natural health food store, NationalNutrition.ca, has just announced its most recent line expansion with Dr. Bronner’s, the top-selling natural brand of soap and personal care products in North America. Dr. Bronner’s is an independent, family-owned business based in California that was founded in 1948, with a history of soap making dating back to 1858. The company is committed to honoring the vision of founder Emanuel Bronner by making socially and environmentally responsible personal care and food products of the highest quality, and by dedicating profits to help make a better world.

With this expansion, National Nutrition is adding thirty-six additional Dr. Bronner’s products to their lineup. Now customers can shop for popular items such as Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lip Balms and 4-in-1 Organic Sugar Soaps, along with the Pure-Castile Liquid and Bar Soaps in larger sizes at National Nutrition’s warehouse. A list of all the new Dr. Bronner’s products National Nutrition’s has added in their dedicated department is available at: https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/dr-bronners

“Holistic health encompasses so much more than just what we put in our bodies, as what we put on our bodies matters, too,” says Darren Firth, National Nutrition’s CEO. “Our customers are a savvy bunch and love the smell, feel, and versatility of Dr. Bronner’s products. They also love the clean ingredients in their body care items, so we are excited to offer them an even wider selection.”

A customer favourite because of its many uses, Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soaps are suitable for personal body care, cleaning the home, pet wash*, and more. It’s also certified vegan, cruelty-free, and Leaping Bunny Certified. Offered in a range of natural scents, there’s a favourite for everyone, including Peppermint, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Citrus, Almond, Rose, and Tea Tree*, and Unscented Baby Mild. (*It is not advised to use Tea Tree essential oil products on pets.)

“We are proud to join together with National Nutrition to offer their customers a larger selection of our ethical and effective personal care products, safe for families and the planet,” says Michael Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s and grandson of Emanuel Bronner. “Their holistic approach to the well-being of their customers pairs well with our own, and we are excited to make more of our products available to all of them.”

Known for its iconic, plant-based “magic” soaps, Dr. Bronner’s uses simple, ecological, and effective formulas with all its major raw ingredients sourced from organic certified and fair trade certified suppliers. Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Pure-Castile Liquid and All-One Bar Soaps use a combination of organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba, and hemp oils, together with pure essential oils, creating a unique soap that cleans effectively without being abrasive. This blend of oils produces a velvety lather that leaves the skin silky-smooth and refreshed, with no synthetic foaming agents, thickeners, or preservatives used. Rather, natural plant-derived Vitamin E and citric acid protect freshness, and the liquid soaps are almost solid in density because they are three times more concentrated than other “liquid soaps” on the market, thus conserving packaging materials and providing a higher value.

Dr. Bronner’s supports the health of people and the planet through its commitment to social justice and environmental sustainability, including its progressive business practices, such as the donation of all profits not needed for business development to causes and charities the company believes in, and by ensuring fair wages and opportunities for their employees and the farming communities within their supply chain.

Free Hearing Evaluation and Free Hearing Aids for Those Who Qualify

News Image

Accessible Hearing Aids is owned and operated by Dr. Joe “Tripp” Griffith, III.

It’s recommended that you have your hearing screened at least once a year, especially if you are over the age of 40. — Dr. Joe Griffith

Accessible Hearings Aids (AHA), owned and operated by Dr. Joe “Tripp” Griffith III, continues to demonstrate their commitment to the latest digital hearing aid technology and to helping patients get the most out of their hearing aids. While serving the region from their Metairie office, they have reached a national audience through their YouTube channel that features several instructional videos on hearing aid cleaning and care. AHA also offers a free hearing evaluation that has assisted countless clients in obtaining free hearing aids if qualified through insurance or other support.

Dr. Griffith understands how crucial treatment of hearing loss is to a patient’s overall physical, mental, and emotional health. “Treatment of hearing loss has been shown to improve communication in relationships, sense of control over your life, social participation, and emotional stability,” Dr. Griffith said. The benefits of hearing aids increase the enjoyability of life’s moments and improve your engagement with people and your surroundings. Hearing aids enable you to contribute better to the workplace, increase your productivity, and allow room for greater improvements in personal and professional relationships.

Accessible Hearing Aid’s website has a free hearing test available for all ages to get patients started on their journey to better hearing. “It’s recommended that you have your hearing screened at least once a year, especially if you are over the age of 40,” Dr. Griffith said. AHA offers a free hearing evaluation that not only diagnoses problems and determines the best avenue for treatment but also guides patients trying to qualify for their hearing aids to be paid through private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, vocational rehab, national and state foundations, and the Veterans Health Administration. AHA also guarantees the most up-to-date advances in hearing aid technology, such as programmable processors fine-tuned for each user, noise and wind reduction, wireless connectivity to phones and other mobile devices, and compatibility with doorbells and smoke alarms.

After your evaluation, if it’s shown you could benefit from hearing aids, AHA offers live speech mapping and real-ear measures during fitting that immediately show the patient how their hearing will improve. Real-ear measures tune amplification based on your personal needs. Custom earmolds ensure that patients who play music, hunt, swim, and frequently use Bluetooth to make phone calls have the best protection possible. AHA supplies batteries in small packets or bulk boxes, so your new hearing aids will always be charged and ready to go. Before the end of your fitting appointment, you will receive information on cleaning your new hearing aids, replacing batteries, filters, and domes, and how to program Bluetooth/FM compatible accessories with your hearing aids. Accessible Hearing Aid’s team is always available to reassess this information with you for as long as you use hearing aids. Most of this information is publicly available in the form of highly educational videos on AHA’s YouTube channel.

Dr. Joe Griffith began a private practice in audiology in 2015, intending to make hearing treatment easily available by offering house calls and in-house visits to patients’ offices or living communities. He received his Doctorate in Audiology from Auburn University and is affiliated with the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and the Louisiana Academy of Audiology. Dr. Griffith sees and treats patients of all ages.

Improving your quality of life through better hearing is only a phone call away! Call Dr. Joe Griffith at 504-738-4557 to schedule your free hearing evaluation or visit https://accessiblehearingaids.com to fill out the Accessible Hearing Aid’s contact form.

RESOLVE and First Response™ Encourage All to be Mindful Fertile Friends Throughout the Upcoming Holiday Seasons

News Image

It is important that we not only open up the conversation about infertility but provide education on how to be a supportive friend.

An estimated 1 in 8 couples experience infertility and many may be struggling silently. Studies have shown that those undergoing fertility can face a variety of emotional and psychological issues, such as reduced self-esteem, loneliness, feelings of failure, grief and depression. These emotions can be heightened at peak times such as during the holidays. To combat that, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and First Response™ have teamed up to launch Fertile Friends, an initiative highlighting available support and resources for those experiencing infertility as well as tips for friends and family on how they can support those trying to conceive.

“For those going through infertility, it can be incredibly stressful, especially during times when everyone is posting pictures of their children, like back to school and the holiday season,” said RESOLVE Board Member and Vice Chair Elizabeth Grill, Psy.D., clinical psychologist and medical researcher specializing in the emotional aspects of infertility. “Individuals dealing with infertility cope in different ways, and while friends and family might not always understand the way they are choosing to face this challenge, it’s important that they demonstrate their support. Whether attending doctor’s appointments, helping with injections, or simply asking what would be helpful, there are many ways to support a friend’s mental health and remind them that they aren’t alone.”

RESOLVE offers support groups, which provide a safe space to meet others facing similar struggles with infertility and family building. Additionally, RESOLVE and First Response™ are sharing the following tips on how to be mindful Fertile Friends during the upcoming holiday seasons.

  • Let them know you care: Talk to those in your life who are struggling and let them know you are there to support them when they need it. Make sure they know that you aren’t gossiping about their struggles and have nothing but love and support for them. Make it clear that you will be there however they need you to be.
  • Avoid giving unsolicited advice: Offering advice or solutions such as asking if they’ve considered IVF or adoption is not helpful (if they aren’t ready to explore those solutions yet). Alternative ways to become a parent such as these are long, painful processes and in no way casual conversation or easy fixes.
  • Talk about other things: Talk to your childless friends about more than just your children. If you are pregnant, avoid complaining about your pregnancy. When it comes to pregnancy announcements, be cognizant of your friend’s feelings and struggles, and consider sharing the news with them in a private, personal way before the big announcement.
  • Don’t minimize the problem: Joking that someone should enjoy their sleep schedule while they can or that they’re lucky they aren’t as stressed over the holidays without children can be damaging. Commenting about how life is easier, or even better, without children simply does not provide comfort.
  • Understand their decisions: Acknowledge that you’re aware that these times can be particularly painful and challenging for some and that you won’t be offended by the decisions they may need to make in order to be happy. Don’t take it personally if your friend decides to leave a holiday party early or mute you on social media to avoid seeing an overload of family photos.

“Fertility treatments can take a toll on all aspects of a patient’s health and, unfortunately, their mental health is often ignored,” said Banafsheh Kashani, M.D., FACOG, double board-certified OB-GYN, reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist. “Those dealing with infertility can go through many highs and lows during the process and their loved ones may not know how to best support them. It is important that we not only open up the conversation about infertility but provide education on how to be a supportive friend.”

The tips for friends and family as well as links to find a support group for those dealing with infertility can be found on RESOLVE’s website.

In April 2022, RESOLVE and First Response™ announced an initiative to increase awareness of the need for support among the infertility community and rebuild RESOLVE’s nationwide network of support groups, with the goal of establishing one new support group in each state by the end of 2022. Today, RESOLVE and First Response™ are continuing this partnership to expand support for the infertility community, providing advice and acknowledging the need for mindful Fertile Friends to those struggling to start or expand their families.

RESOLVE.org is home to many resources for the infertility community and those aiming to support it, including free support groups, books, podcasts, and other online resources, kitchen table conversations, and more. In April 2022, First Response™ launched The Pregnancy Hub by First Response™, an online community that aims to connect, inspire, and provide resources to those navigating trying to conceive (TTC), pregnancy and motherhood.

About RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association: Established in 1974, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association is a non-profit organization with the only established nationwide network mandated to promote reproductive health and to ensure equal access to all family-building options for anyone experiencing infertility or challenges in building their family. One in eight U.S. couples of childbearing age has trouble conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term. RESOLVE addresses this public health issue by providing community to all who need it, connecting them with others who can help, empowering them to find resolution and giving voice to their demands for access to all family-building options. Results from the PPMI Study on an Alpha-Synuclein Seed Amplification Assay

International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders ®

International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders ®

“Recent advances in biochemical and imaging markers are opening novel perspectives for improving both the diagnosis, the definition, and the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. In this context, the PPMI study emerges as a global effort that holds great promise for a wide range of analyses.”

An alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay (SAA) showed positive detection results in prodromal cases of Parkinson’s disease according to a study released today at the International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders® in Madrid, Spain.

Development of tests to detect biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease (PD) are highly sought after to help with clinical care for potential PD patients. Biomarkers, such as alpha-synuclein, can aid in early diagnosis and risk assessment for PD development.

The Parkinson Progression Marker Initiative (PPMI) is a large observational study consisting of phenotyped PD patients, individuals at risk for developing PD, and healthy controls. Siderowf et al. sought to evaluate the efficiency of an alpha-synuclein SAA (developed by Amprion) on cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) samples from these groups of individuals. A total of 1,139 participants were included in this study. Sensitivity and specificity of the SAA was assessed and showed the highest accuracy in typical PD patients but was still found to show positive results in majority of prodromal cases.

Tiago Outeiro, Professor and Director of the Department of Experimental Neurodegeneration at the University Medical Center Göttingen, responded to this study, “recent advances in biochemical and imaging markers are opening novel perspectives for improving both the diagnosis, the definition, and the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. In this context, the PPMI study emerges as a global effort that holds great promise for a wide range of analyses. Using CSF samples from 1,139 cases, this research consortium assessed the value of an alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay (SAA) in a large cohort of patients with PD, individuals at-risk for PD and healthy controls. This is the major strength of this study, as previous efforts used a much smaller number of samples. The study confirmed the sensitivity and specificity of the SAA assay, as well as the ability to detect alpha-synuclein amplification in the CSF prodromal cases. Importantly, the study indicates that SAA will be an important tool to aid in the establishment of cohorts suitable for observational and interventional studies.”

VPL is Heading to Orlando to Present at the NASP 2022 Annual Meeting & Expo

VPL TrajectRx

VPL presenting at specialty pharmacy’s premier event

“This event will really help us show the industry what we can do to help pharmacies simplify their prescription shipping workflows.”

This year’s National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP) Annual Meeting & Expo celebrates the 10-year anniversary of specialty pharmacy’s premier event, and VPL, an industry leader in smart supply chain solutions for healthcare clients, is continuing to support their expansion into the pharmacy market by exhibiting their cloud-based pharmacy solutions at the event. NASP 2022 will take place in Orlando, Florida at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center from September 19-22.

This past March, VPL announced the launch of their specialty pharmacy software solutions, VPL TrajectRx—a clinically minded prescription shipping, tracking and compliance software built for pharmacists, by pharmacists to ensure specialty medications are delivered cost-effectively and securely.

“We’re excited to bring our pharmacy solutions to this year’s NASP Annual Meeting & Expo for the first time ever,” says Eric McGlade, CEO and Co-Founder at VPL. “Amanda Awe, our Pharmacy Product Specialist, spent over 10 years as a clinical pharmacist before coming to VPL to help other pharmacists solve familiar problems with technology solutions. Her unique perspective helps us to continuously innovate VPL TrajectRx, making it as useful to our customers as it can possibly be.”

VPL is proud to be leading two presentations for the Technology Day Workshop on Monday, September 19 in the mezzanine coastal breakout room Suwannee 1.

The first session, titled “Innovation Lab #5 – VPL & St. Luke’s,” is from 12:00-12:30 p.m. and will be presented by Marc Choquette (St. Luke’s), Derrek Seif (VPL), and Amanda Awe, PharmD, RPh (VPL). In this presentation, VPL will present a case study with a pharmacy customer that will demonstrate real world results of VPL TrajectRx.

The second session, titled “The Role of Technology in Solving ‘The Last Mile’ Logistics,” is from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and will be presented by Sheila Arquette, RPh (NASP), Amanda Awe, PharmD (VPL), Tim Ramsey (US Pack Logistics), Kirk Nilson (Parcel Shield). This panel will describe how specialty pharmacies use technology to provide customized, convenient, and customer-centric last-mile solutions to accommodate patients’ needs, improve customer satisfaction, manage costs, and safeguard medication quality.

“This event will really help us show the industry what we can do to help pharmacies simplify their prescription shipping workflows.” says McGlade. “I think those who sit in on her presentations will really enjoy them because they’ll be getting perspective on pharmacy software from an actual pharmacist who played a big role in the development of it all.”

Attendees can stop by the VPL TrajectRx booth (#606) to chat with their team about specialty pharmacies can make the prescription shipping workflow more seamless than ever before, find out what giveaway prizes they have available, and see what tricks their booth-side magician has up his sleeves.

DeliverHealth’s Digital Health Platform Ranks No. 1 for Improving Patient Experience in KLAS 2022 Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report

News Image

We’re proud to be recognized by KLAS as being on the forefront of digital health software and services and giving patients the tools they’ve been asking for while demonstrating the positive impact on clinicians, as our industry forges a new path toward digital-first care delivery models.

DeliverHealth, a software and services company with a set of connected solutions that bridge the gap between mid-revenue cycle and digital health, announced today that its digital health platform has received high rankings in the 2022 KLAS Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, including the top ranking in KLAS’s Improve Patient Experience category.

Built on its award-winning digital front door software and wrapped with a suite of omni-channel communication tools ranging from AI Virtual Assistant to Live Agent, the solution creates a one-of-a-kind user experience to enable Electronic Medical Record (EMR) functionality, scheduling, payment, telehealth visits, health risk assessments, patient monitoring, wayfinding, and more, in a single white-labeled, client-branded mobile application and web experience workflow.

The top 20 emerging solutions were selected by healthcare leaders across the country with the help of KLAS to find the solutions that have the greatest potential to disrupt the healthcare market. Solutions were rated by how well they could improve outcomes, reduce the cost of care, improve patient experiences, and improve clinician experiences, also known as the Quadruple Aim.

Notably, of the solutions considered by KLAS in relation to the Quadruple Aim, DeliverHealth ranked as the No. 1 solution for Improving Patient Experience, No. 4 for Improving Clinician Experience, tied at No. 6 for Improving Outcomes and tied at No. 9 for Reducing the Cost of Care — a testament to the company’s vision of simplifying the complexities in healthcare.

According to the report, one C-level executive noted being “very impressed” by DeliverHealth’s patient experience software, as “it wrapped functionality from several disparate solutions quite nicely, creating a seamless consumer experience.”

CEO of DeliverHealth Michael Clark said, “With 63% of patients now willing to leave their existing provider for one with a better digital experience, health systems have struggled to develop and execute holistic digital health strategies that unify the hundreds of available point solutions into a seamless consumer experience. DeliverHealth’s solutions integrator approach allows our clients to do just that, while our team of digital health consultants make sure our client’s people and processes are set up to drive adoption of their newly unified technologies. We’re proud to be recognized by KLAS as being on the forefront of digital health software and services and giving patients the tools they’ve been asking for while demonstrating the positive impact on clinicians, as our industry forges a new path toward digital-first care delivery models.”

The DeliverHealth Platform, with its mobile-focused capabilities, puts a clinical documentation and a coding ecosystem in the palms of a clinicians’ hands, providing quick access to transcription, scribing, translation services, coding audit workflows, and more. As the industry’s first true Digital Health Solutions Integrator, DeliverHealth incorporates into its digital front door omni-channel capabilities more than 30 point solutions and offers a team of adoption specialists to help customers create the healthcare ecosystem of the future, today. Earlier this year, those digital front door capabilities earned across-the-board A+ ratings from KLAS.

In KLAS’s Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, another C-level executive mentioned that “any product [like DeliverHealth’s] that can bring together all the resources patients need into one platform is attractive to healthcare organizations trying to maintain a competitive edge.”

“Because KLAS believes in the power of technology to improve healthcare, it only made sense to research emerging, new solutions,” said Adam Gale, KLAS CEO. “We set out to help providers cut through the hype in this market and we found some new technologies with real capabilities. The recent Top 20 report highlights those solutions with the greatest potential impact according to healthcare leaders.”

“This study is an important milestone in the development of continuous drug-delivery strategies to treat motor fluctuations in PD, showing significant increases in ON-time without troublesome dyskinesias using subcutaneous 24-hour infusions of a novel levodopa/carbidopa formulation.”

Continuous subcutaneous infusion (CSCI) of levodopa/carbidopa prodrugs, foslevodopa/foscarbidopa, improved time without dyskinesia in patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD) according to a phase 3 clinical trial released today at the International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders® in Madrid, Spain.

It is well known that long-term use of oral levodopa/carbidopa leads to increased dyskinesia in PD patients. These motor symptoms are thought to be due to the rise and fall of dopamine. Therefore, many investigations have taken place to help treat and prevent the development of levodopa-induced dyskinesia.

The phase 3 clinical trial designed by Soileau et al. investigated the efficiency and safety of 24-hour CSCI foslevodopa/foscarbidopa, in patients with advanced PD. One hundred forty-one patients were randomized 1:1 to receive CSCI of foslevodopa/foscarbidopa and an oral placebo or CSCI of placebo and an oral dose of levodopa/carbidopa for 12 weeks. Treatment with CSCI of foslevodopa/foscarbidopa produced a greater improvement in time without dyskinesia when measured at week 12.

Werner Poewe, Professor of Neurology at the Medical University Innsbruck, Austria, responded to this study, “This study is an important milestone in the development of continuous drug-delivery strategies to treat motor fluctuations in PD showing significant increases in ON-time without troublesome dyskinesias using subcutaneous 24-hour infusions of a novel levodopa/carbidopa formulation. The observed effect size is similar to previous studies of levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel infusions and results on secondary outcomes suggest benefits on sleep and early morning motor function. Local tolerability appears consistent with what is known from continuous subcutaneous apomorphine infusions in PD, suggesting that subcutaneous infusions of levodopa will soon be added to the portfolio of treatment options in PD patients with levodopa-related motor complications.”
