Blockchain-based Supply Chain Management Can Greatly Optimize Blood Bank Operations: Raj Chowdhury

[ad_1]

Blood bank supply chain using blockchain tech.

Blood bank supply chain using blockchain tech.

Blockchain’s success in establishing trust by utilizing an immutable database with permissioned access makes it an ideal solution for blood supply chain networks. The technology instills accuracy and transparency, insulating the information with high-security defense mechanisms.

Blood donation and transfusion are critical components in the medical supply chain system of any nation. Statistics suggest a person requires blood every 2 seconds, and one in seven entrants to the hospital needs a blood transfusion. HashCash Chief Raj Chowdhury highlights how blockchain’s potential in streamlining supply chain operations can be applied to improving the operational efficiency of blood banks in nations around the world.

Donors make the largest contribution to blood unit collections across most countries. The accumulated blood reaches patients through complex blood supply chain networks, often spanning thousands of miles. The units are further categorized and segregated into medical components such as red blood cells, plasma, or platelets. Traceability and provenance- knowing the source, condition, and location of products in real-time is of vital importance for supply chains. It is even more crucial for blood supply networks, as human lives are at stake.

The HashCash CEO, also a blockchain pioneer, states, “blockchain’s success in establishing trust by utilizing an immutable database with permissioned access makes it an ideal solution for blood supply chain networks. The technology instills accuracy and transparency, insulating the information with high-security defense mechanisms.”

The underlying architecture behind cryptocurrencies has been successfully integrated across multiple nations. The Canadian Blood Services has been working to implement blockchain technology into its existing architecture. The Indian government has set up a blockchain division to build a “Bloodchain”- ensuring safe and accurate blood delivery from donors to recipients. The National AIDS Control Organization(NACO) reported that 2234 HIV contractions had occurred due to defective blood transfusions within the last 16 months, amounting to a total of 14000 new infections in the last 7 years.

“Blockchain consensus safeguards the accuracy of data transactions, and the same updated ledger is shared throughout the entire network, offering real-time visibility to all the stakeholders in the blood cycle- blood banks, testing centers, donors, hospitals, and patients across a single platform,” remarked Chowdhury, who had previously highlighted blockchain’s groundbreaking role in sustainable energy management and education systems.

The Chowdhury-led Hashcash Consultants is a worldwide leader winning top awards in blockchain innovation. The US-based company has been globally acclaimed for its white label solutions for crypto exchanges and crypto payment processors, deploying products in more than 26 nations including Vietnam, US, and Singapore. HashCash declared plans to enter the Metaverse segment by next year.

The shortage of blood supply is a global crisis, resulting in the loss of human lives around the world. Blockchain proves to be a promising solution, accelerating intermediate processes and securing the network with safe accurate data and real-time visibility.

Raj Chowdhury is the Managing Director of HashCash Consultants and a Blockchain pioneer. Raj pioneered the first interbank Trade Finance and Remittance implementation of Blockchain Technology between two of the largest global banks. Raj is a prominent voice in the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency space and actively engages with policymakers in this area. He is a contributor to Economic Times, Business World, and CNNMoney and advises industry leaders in the adoption of Blockchain. He is a member of Asha Silicon Valley, a nonprofit committed to education for children in emerging countries. Author of the book ‘The Dark Secret of the Silicon Valley’, Raj is an investor in blockchain and cryptocurrency companies and an active member of the philanthropic community.

AltaPointe Health & City of Mobile Team Up to Prevent Falls and Expand Programs to New Community Centers This September

[ad_1]

News Image

Did you know that every 14 seconds, an older adult is treated in an emergency department for a fall-related injury? Or that falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries for people 65 and older? And according to the National Council on Aging, the financial toll for older adult falls is expected to reach over $101 billion by 2030.

The good news is that AltaPointe Health has teamed up with the City of Mobile Parks and Recreation Department to provide evidenced-based programs that are proven to help reduce the risk of falling. And as we gear up to celebrate National Fall Prevention Awareness Week (September 18-24), we are excited to announce a program expansion that kicks off in September!

FALL PREVENTION PROGRAMS

Since 2018, AltaPointe Health has been incorporating fall prevention programs in the system’s residential group homes and foster homes to improve the health and wellness of the patients.

Bingocize® strategically combines the game of bingo with exercise and fall prevention. Groups of participants “play” Bingocize® twice a week, with 45-60 minute sessions that incorporate exercises to improve range of motion, balance, muscle strengthening, and endurance.

The SAIL Program (Stay Active & Independent for Life) provides a fitness class designed specifically for older adults, as well as self-assessments and educational materials.

A COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

In 2020, AltaPointe received a grant from the Administration for Community Living to bring the programs out into the community. AltaPointe has worked with the City of Mobile Parks and Recreation Department to identify the communities and areas with the most need.

Over the last year, AltaPointe instructors provided the Bingocize and SAIL programs to more than 200 participants at the Connie Hudson Senior Center, Tricksey Senior Center, Hillsdale Community Center, Parkway Senior Center, Thomas Sullivan Community Center, Springhill Recreation Center, and Saraland Senior Center.

In total, AltaPointe has served more than 600 participants – making our programs and our community a healthier and safer place to live!

  • 72% of participants who completed the programs showed improvement in balance, leg strength, and arm strength which reduces risk for future falls
  • 97% of participants who completed the programs reported 0 falls with injury since beginning the program
  • 91% of participants who completed the programs reported 0 falls at all since beginning the program

PROGRAM EXPANSION

AltaPointe and MPRD are thrilled to announce that beginning this September, AltaPointe will begin providing the programs at the Hope Community Center, Dotch Community Center, Figures Community Center, James Seal Recreation Center, and Harmon Recreation Center.

Joseph Simone Says That Behavioral Health Will Drive Medical Real Estate Design

[ad_1]

Joseph Simone, President, Simone Development Companies

“Behavioral health challenges medical builders to consider psychology and mental wellness in their projects,” said Joanna Simone, Principal and President of Leasing and Property Management Operations at Simone Development Companies.

Joseph Simone of Simone Development Companies says that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) focus on behavioral health will drive the design of new healthcare facilities.

“There is a growing understanding about the relationship between mental health and physical health, which is causing these two disciplines to converge at primary care facilities,” said Joe Simone, President of Simone Development Companies. “This growing combination of mental and physical practitioners in one location challenges healthcare real estate builders to create spaces that foster relaxation and psychological wellness for patients and healthcare workers.”

Earlier this year, CMS outlined its behavioral health strategy that included access to prevention and treatment services for substance abuse, mental health services, crisis intervention and pain care. The agency’s goal is to enable care that is well-coordinated and effectively integrated.

Healthcare real estate developers must now consider medical offices with deinstitutionalized environments that are homelike with access to daylight, the outdoors, and positive distractions.

Simone Development Companies’ development of medical offices at the Boyce Thompson Center in Yonkers, N.Y. anticipated this deinstitutionalization. Waiting rooms are relaxing spaces in a historic building adaptively reused for restaurants, retail and medical. The Boyce Thompson Center’s design allowed one tenant—WESTMED, a Summit Health Company—to offer behavioral health services.

“Behavioral health challenges medical builders to consider psychology and mental wellness in their projects,” said Joanna Simone, Principal and President of Leasing and Property Management Operations at Simone Development Companies. “The successful delivery of behavioral health services at our Boyce Thompson Center demonstrates that thoughtful and compassionate builders can create safe spaces that calm and reassure vulnerable patients.”

Simone Development Companies is a full-service real estate investment company specializing in the acquisition and development of healthcare, mixed-use, office, industrial, retail, and residential properties. Headquartered at the Hutchinson Metro Center, it boasts a portfolio of over 7 million square feet throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, Westchester County, Orange and Fairfield Counties and New Jersey. With services spanning acquisition, development, construction, finance, asset management, accounting, leasing and property management, Simone Development Companies is set apart by its vertically integrated management team, long-term asset ownership and its pursuit of visionary development.

[ad_1]

MOLLI Surgical today announced that Ananth Ravi, PhD has been named President and CEO of the company. Ananth is the co-founder of MOLLI and one of the inventors of the localization technology that resulted in the creation of MOLLI Surgical.

“It has been my honor to work with the talented team at MOLLI Surgical since its inception, and I am confident that we will continue to set the standard for patient-centred precision surgery,” said Ananth. “We have much work ahead of us, as we re-imagine precision surgery – and MOLLI – beyond breast localization. Our vision is for MOLLI to be adopted widely as an indispensable tool that is easier to use for surgeons and more comfortable for patients.”

Throughout his career, Ananth has sought to improve the patient experience. He is the only medical physicist ever to win the Human Touch Award, which recognizes a passion for improving the quality of care for Ontario cancer patients. In his role at MOLLI, Ananth has led development of the Evolve 3S (strategic site solutions) program, leading to dramatic improvements in program efficiency and patient and provider satisfaction.

Ananth’s academic research has focused on improving image guidance for medical procedures ranging from radiation to surgical oncology techniques. As a practitioner and inventor, he has helped make precision surgery simpler through targeted innovation and increasing access to high-quality care. He is a co-inventor on numerous patents and has garnered several grants for medical device innovations.

Former CEO Fazila Seker has stepped aside. “The Board thanks Fazila for her contributions and leadership as MOLLI gained FDA approval, the team grew, and we launched commercially,” said James C. Temerty, Chairman of the Board. “We now look to an exciting future ahead with Ananth as the company’s leader. The Board has immense confidence in Ananth’s leadership, commercial and clinical acumen and technical expertise. The market opportunity for MOLLI is tremendous and we look forward to the coming banner year as we expand across North America.”

MOLLI is a medical device that implants a tiny tissue marker — about the size of a sesame seed — to mark the location of tumours for surgeons. These tumours are typically small — often the size of a pearl. The MOLLI Wand® works by detecting the MOLLI Marker® and visualizing its location with a simple distance reading on a tablet, helping surgeons locate lesions more efficiently with improved accuracy. The marker is implanted by a radiologist within 30 days prior to the surgery and creates scheduling flexibility for the patient and hospital, which has become of paramount importance in an unpredictable pandemic environment.

ABOUT MOLLI SURGICAL:

MOLLI Surgical started in the operating room, where surgeons were using dated tools to treat cancer patients — and we knew we could do better. Our surgical wand is precise, easy-to-use and built with the realities of the operating room in mind. More importantly, it is built with patients in mind. Our technology replaces procedures to mark tumours with one that is not only kinder — but more accurate, efficient and cost-effective. MOLLI Surgical is proud to build the advanced equipment that patients prefer to have and that physicians prefer to use. For more information, visit mollisurgical.com.

Become a Global Mission Fellow and join the legacy and movement of young adults in the United States who have crossed boundaries to better understand and respond to various forms of injustice since 1951.

The Global Mission Fellows program of The United Methodist Church places young adults, ages 20–30, in social justice ministries for two years of service. The program offers the opportunity for service in the United States (US-2 track) and around the world (international track) and is excited to announce the launch of the application on Sept. 1 for the 2023-25 cohort on the US-2 track.

Fellows serving on the US-2 track address the deep-rooted systems of injustice in the U.S., working in a variety of areas, including food insecurity, migration/immigration, education and poverty. Fellows leave their home state to serve in a new community, gaining a fresh perspective on systems preventing social change. They form meaningful relationships with their host community as they are mentored by organizations meeting immediate needs and working toward lasting transformation.

The Wesleyan value of personal and social holiness is at the core of the Global Mission Fellows program. The program is open to those from different denominational backgrounds, but participants are expected to represent The United Methodist Church and uphold its social principles during their time of service.

The fall application deadline is Dec. 1, 2022. Placement matches will be assigned throughout the selection process, but early application is encouraged for the strongest match. The final deadline is Spring 2023. The application can be found at umcmission.org/become-a-fellow.

Those selected for the next Global Mission Fellow US-2 cohort will begin onboarding in Spring 2023 and service in August 2023.
