WASHINGTON, Jan. 1, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — CGTN America & CGTN UN release “Chinese President Makes New Year Address to Ring in 2024”

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a New Year address to ring in 2024 on Sunday. He emphasized that the Chinese economy has sustained the momentum of recovery with steady progress made in pursuing high-quality development.

China has achieved a plentiful harvest for the 20th year in a row, Xi said. “Waters have become clearer and mountains greener. New advances have been made in pursuing rural revitalization. New progress has been made in fully revitalizing northeast China,” he added.

The Xiong’an New Area is growing fast, the Yangtze River Economic Belt is full of vitality and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is embracing new development opportunities, Xi said.

President Xi said new heights were scaled in China’s innovation-driven development in 2023.

“The C919 large passenger airliner entered commercial service. The Chinese-built large cruise ship completed its trial voyage. The Shenzhou spaceships are continuing their missions in space. The deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe reached the deepest ocean trench,” Xi said.

Xi vowed to deepen reform and opening up across the board, calling for further enhancement of people’s confidence in development, promotion of vibrant development of the economy, and a redoubling of efforts to boost education, advance science and technology, and cultivate talents.

“We will continue to support Hong Kong and Macao in harnessing their distinctive strengths, better integrating themselves into China’s overall development, and securing long-term prosperity and stability,” Xi said.

“China will surely be reunified,” Xi stressed, adding that all Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits should be bound by a common sense of purpose and share in the glory of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

He also discussed global development in his address. “No matter how the global landscape may evolve, peace and development remain the underlying trend, and only cooperation for mutual benefit can deliver,” Xi said.

China is willing to work closely with the international community for the common good of humanity, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and make the world a better place for all, he added.

Lincoln Cemetery Project Association President Uncovers Gettysburg’s Black History

Gettysburg has many historic attractions, from the Civil War battlefields to museums and other cultural experiences. Yet many visitors don’t know that Gettysburg had a thriving Black community. Jean Howard Green, President of the Lincoln Cemetery Project Association, is committed to sharing the stories.

GETTYSBURG, Pa., Dec. 30, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Gettysburg has many historic attractions, from the Civil War battlefields to museums and other cultural experiences. Yet many visitors don’t know that Gettysburg had a thriving Black community. Jean Howard Green, President of the Lincoln Cemetery Project Association, is committed to sharing the stories of Gettysburg’s Black community through Lincoln Cemetery. She feels that preserving Black cemeteries is preserving the history of a people that might otherwise be lost. The following is an interview with Jean, a woman on a mission to honor those buried in Lincoln Cemetery.

Following Her Purpose Means Building Bridges Across Differences

Sometimes, serendipity happens, and a campaign takes on a life of its own. A cold call to UK Trade and Investment at the British Embassy got Patricia to the right person. He provided additional insights on doing business in the UK. Patricia also met a member of President George W. Bush’s administration at a meeting in Washington, DC. He shared her plans with the White House. That led to the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, The Honorable Robert H. Tuttle, inviting Patricia’s delegation to an embassy reception with US business leaders.

People do things for people. The trade mission gave Patricia recognition and credibility. A few months later, she needed someone in London to help organize her client, Dr. Donda West’s London “Raising Kanye” book tour. She called on Margot Rodway-Brown, who hosted lifestyle events in London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Margot drew large numbers to each book signing. Relationships matter.

From past experiences organizing Black trade missions and a Black book signing in London, Patricia feels all roads led her to Adams County, Pennsylvania. She relocated with her husband to a farm about 15 minutes from Gettysburg in 2017. Seeing a low percentage of Black tourists in Gettysburg, she launched a campaign to attract Blacks for weekend experiences. “Gettysburg has a rich Black history and unique attractions that would appeal to Blacks, such as the Underground Railroad and Lincoln Cemetery, the Black burial ground. The key is how messages are delivered, through what communications channels, and the degree to which messages resonate with who Blacks are culturally,” she adds.

Last year’s “When Sisters Gather in Gettysburg” and this year’s “Black Power Couples Weekend” attracted influencers from Patricia’s network. “We had a media publisher, former White House speechwriter, medical doctor, retired NFL player now Court of Common Pleas Judge, and other influencers here,” Patricia shares. In 2024, she is teaming with California author and life coach Wendy Gladney to bring “The Power of Excellence” to Gettysburg. The weekend includes inspiring speeches by women who overcame insurmountable odds on the journey to excellence. Says Wendy: “It’s not often that you meet someone like Patricia and feel a true connection. You realize yours is a shared divine appointment to help others have the best life possible.”

Says Patricia: “A life without purpose is no life. Living purposefully honors why I am here: to build bridges across differences. Simply put, being socially responsible, whether in the United States or any other part of the world, is good business,” she adds.

WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital OB-GYN and Nurse Midwife Are Not Just Medical Professionals: They are Compassionate Listeners

Dr. Jackson
There are numerous causal factors, yet the disproportionate number of Black maternal deaths and Black infant mortalities does little to change perceptions among many Blacks that they cannot trust healthcare institutions. Has your presence made a difference in perceptions? How have Black patients responded?

“I think that my presence has made a difference in perceptions, mainly because Black practitioners have better outcomes for both Black birthing patients and Black infants. Being trained at Howard University, a historically Black university, I take Black maternal mortality and infant mortality extremely seriously. I am equally concerned about all of my patients. Pregnancy and postpartum are critical times in a birthing person’s life for their health and safety.”

You are among the WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital doctors who use robotics in medical procedures. How are you using robotics? How is it advancing surgical procedures and recovery?

“Robotics is a tool like any other surgical tool. It facilitates surgeons like myself to do more complex cases than can effectively be accomplished with a lot of the standard laparoscopic tools. It can sometimes create a situation where a patient can have a minimally invasive surgery, where they otherwise would not be a candidate, which generally improves infection rates, healing and recovery, and blood loss. I use robotics to do multiple gynecologic surgeries, particularly when it is safer for the patient. Improved visualization and articulation of the instruments also allows me to perform surgery with more precision than straight-stick laparoscopy allows.”

Nurse Nancy
Childbirth should be a natural process, yet complications can occur. As a WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital midwife, are you with the mother from pregnancy to delivery? What steps do you take to ensure a successful birthing experience?

“As a team of OB/GYNs and Midwives, we work together to meet a spectrum of low to high-risk clients during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. We set realistic expectations of what success looks like prenatally and provide close bedside support and encouragement. We also explore ways to expand our skills and expertise in trauma-based care, which is essential in pregnancy and birth. Many women that we serve carry traumatic experiences from childhood or even past births. We help them begin the healing process.”

Though you are a midwife, do you assume other roles when a patient has overwhelming needs, some beyond your scope to provide? If so, what steps do you take to find answers for her or meet her needs?

“As a midwife with a background in public health, I see myself as a connector or weaver who considers community resources and where I can connect my clients for needs that I may not be able to fulfill. I advocate for them and have a policy of close follow-up to avoid slipping through the cracks while under my care. Most importantly, I listen carefully. Women are often very clear about what they need if we, as care providers, listen to them.”

Choosing a healthcare provider can be a daunting task. However, good listening skills, effective communication, empathy, and being an advocate are significant to trust-building. Dr. Brittany and Nurse Nancy got my thumbs up. To learn more about WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital or locate a doctor, visit wellspan.org. For media queries or interviews, search Media Relations.

Philadelphia’s Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church Clergyman Makes Black Health A Priority

Motivated by personal loss, the deaths of his mother, sister, and brother-in-law to heart disease, Rev. Miles champions improved health policies locally and nationally. “Systemic racism leads to poor health outcomes for many Blacks. Education is key, and I commit to being an educator. I don’t just speak out as a theologian. I also voice my story and offer a solution that resonates with Blacks. My family history prepared me for this moment. I have no fear. Whether talking with someone on Philadelphia streets or elected officials, I give both the same level of respect. They know mine are action words because Black lives matter,” he concludes.

His resolve stems from a deep understanding of factors that contribute to poor health outcomes for many Blacks, turning his tragedy into a relentless pursuit of change. In a compelling testament to the critical importance of community well-being, Rev. Leroy Miles is a powerful advocate for Black health in Philadelphia and beyond.

“Strengthening families and communities is pivotal to our church mission. I embrace this commitment,” Rev. Miles states, drawing on his life experiences and faith to embody the principles of compassion, understanding, and empathy. That he serves others in a way that shows God’s love is the most significant way to make a difference.

As a certified health coach, Rev. Miles makes a difference in many ways through collaborations. “I collaborate with Philadelphia hospitals, health organizations, and governmental bodies, to name some. Bridging gaps in healthcare access cannot occur without broad-based strategic relationships. Partnerships allow me to cast a wide net,” he concludes. Notable partnerships include one with Penn Medicine, where Rev. Miles spearheads the “Know Your Numbers! Campaign,” a health screening that gives treatment, health education, and support to people unaware that they have high blood pressure. High blood pressure is prevalent among African-American men and women. “Enon teams with Penn Medicine and organizes health events at the church for Black men. They learn about cardiovascular disease prevention. An estimated 900 men received health screenings and information at Enon,” shares Rev. Miles. He is also on the Philadelphia American Heart Association board.

As public recognition of his passion and expertise grows, so do speaking requests. Rev. Miles is a sought-after panelist on diseases prevalent among African-Americans. This past September, he presented at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 52nd Annual Legislative Conference.

“Some ask if I get tired, and the answer is no. I understand my limitations yet lean on strengths vital to overcoming barriers. With God’s help, our mission is beyond country borders now. We organize health expos and care centers in Africa and South America. Black health is not just a US concern; it’s a global concern. I am proud to have a unique opportunity, through Enon, to spread the gospel of good health, educate neglected people of color on why preventative measures and lifestyle changes are pivotal, and advocate for systems change beneficial to them,” Rev. Miles concludes.

Building Community Around Black Maternal and Infant Health

Knowing where to turn when experiencing apathy from medical systems is essential; having an advocate is critical to navigating what some Blacks feel are uncomfortable and unfriendly environments. In addition to Cocolife.black’s Mombassador Movement, partnerships across sectors are growing. Among them are The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, Independence Blue Cross, the US Department of Health and Human Services, Duke University, the March of Dimes Maternity Care Coalition, HCSC-TX, physicians, and birth worker organizations nationwide. Cocolife.black also has a doula certification program and is exploring safe spaces for moms who are victims of domestic violence. “Ours is a community-empowered model of care; we build awareness of our affiliated partners to ensure those needing our services have options,” Alexia offers.

The organization’s commitment to building diverse partner networks to support its Mombassador program is not without notice. “State and federal legislators are seeking our insights on improving outcomes in Black Maternal Health. The MOMNIBUS legislation is crucial to our work,” Alexia adds. Also, Cocolife.black was a finalist for Philadelphia’s Health Hero Challenge, an award recognizing inspirational heroes in all aspects of healthcare.
