The APIA community has experienced a rather challenging year and APIA Scholars has continued to provide resources to its scholars through mentorship, scholarship, and counseling. In the upcoming weeks, APIA Scholars will host a fundraising event to raise awareness around mental health. APIA Scholars will present Good Vibes, Good Will Comedy Fundraiser Event on July 29, 2021, at 7PM EDT / 4PM PDT.

“We are so very proud of the community for coming together in support of mental health awareness. This virtual comedy show will bring together education experts, comedians and entertainers from the APIA community to discuss mental wellness through motivating stories, humor, inspiration, and resources. I’m so grateful that we can all come together to openly discuss this issue and to have a laugh,” stated Noel Harmon, President, APIA Scholars.

The show, hosted by Fumi Abe (Comedy Central) and Mic Nguyen (Mcsweeney) who run the weekly podcast, Asian Not Asian, will also include a line up of fresh and award-winning talent from the APIA community:

— Jenny Yang, an award-winning Los Angeles-based standup comedian, television writer, podcast host, speaker, and professional opinion-haver.

— JR DeGuzman, a music-teacher turned comedian who serenades his audience into laughter with songs, jokes, and stories.

— Adam Pasi, a Portland comic who is quickly becoming among the most recognized names in Northwestern comedy.

— Jes Tom, a New York based actor, writer, and weird queer stand up comic.

— Mona Jones, the world’s only female Chamorro comedian who delivers a crash course on island culture and the racism that existed in its school systems.

The event is part of APIA Scholars Elevating Leaders Summit, an annual event that focuses on leadership development, culture, and community building. Tickets for the Good Vibes, Good Will Comedy Fundraiser Event are now on sale and proceeds will support the work of APIA Scholars.
