Improving IoT device security with the latest technology is important for reducing related risks and building trust around projected business outcomes derived from IoT ecosystem data

At the RSA® Conference 2020 in San Francisco, California, Allegro Software, a leading supplier of security and connectivity software for the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced additions to the Allegro EdgeSecure Suite™ that provide Transport Layer Security (TLS) API compatibility for ARM’s Mbed™ TLS and Open Source Software OpenSSL. A member of the larger Allego EdgeAgent Suite™ of embedded software toolkits, the Allegro EdgeSecure Suite of products enable IoT edge device developers with advanced security technology specifically engineered for resource constrained execution environments. The Allegro EdgeSecure Suite now includes an API compatibility layer for ARM developers looking for TLS v1.3 and FIPS validated cryptography while protecting their existing investment in application software. The Allegro EdgeSecure Suite also includes an API compatibility layer for device developers using Open Source Software OpenSSL with requirements for TLS v1.3 and FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography. The Allegro EdgeSecure Suite and larger Allegro EdgeAgent Suite are delivered as ANSI-C source and are available to quickly implement TLS v1.3 and FIPS validated cryptography with IoT edge devices.

API COMPATIBILIY WITH ARM’S MBED TLS

ARM® technology is used by billions of people, across billions of devices, every single day. To help achieve this milestone, ARM recognized the need to remove the complexities of creating IoT edge devices. Their answer, a collection of pre-integrated software components starting with the Mbed OS surrounded with supporting technology stacks including Mbed TLS v1.2. Providing an API compatibility layer for Mbed TLS, the Allegro EdgeSecure Suite further removes the complexity of migrating to the latest TLS v1.3 while also adding FIPS validated cryptography. Together these two technologies enable developers to improve IoT edge device security and reduce related risks while preserving any potential source code investment made integrating to the Mbed TLS API.

API COMPATIBILITY WITH OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE OPENSSL

If you have a requirement for TLS v1.3 and FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography and also have a significant internal investment in source code integrated to the OpenSSL API, Allegro Software can help. With the addition of an OpenSSL API compatibility layer to the Allegro EdgeSecure Suite, device developers can rapidly deploy TLS v1.3 and FIPS validated cryptography in their IoT edge devices with little to no change to their source code. Unlike OpenSSL, the Allegro EdgeSecure Suite and the Allegro Cryptography Engine (ACE™) provide a stable API and long-term solution for FIPS 140-2 (and soon to be 140-3) validation. Originally engineered for resource constrained IoT environments, ACE can be used stand-alone or pre-integrated with the entire Allegro EdgeSecure Suite of IoT edge device security components.

“Improving IoT device security with the latest technology is important for reducing related risks and building trust around projected business outcomes derived from IoT ecosystem data,” says

Bob Van Andel, President of Allegro. “Using the Allegro EdgeSecure Suite with the supplied compatibility layers enables developers to retain their investment in IoT ecosystem source code while moving forward with the latest TLS v1.3 and FIPS validated cryptography.”

The full Allegro EdgeAgent Suite is provided as ANSI-C source code and is available today. For more information, stop by the Allegro Software Booth #4610 or visit the Allegro Software website: https://www.allegrosoft.com
