Nancy Yonally Coleman, a corporate trainer and management consultant with 35 years of experience in health care and a former Health Department consultant for the schools, knows the causes and effects of addiction better than most. “Substance abuse indicators are as broad as the population,” Coleman teaches. “Poverty is one of the drivers; so is experimentation, especially among our youth, and they’re getting younger and younger (8-9-10 years old).

“Children are absolutely indestructible in their minds,” says Coleman. “They believe it’s not going to happen to them. They believe they can handle it. It’s just a toy, and especially among the very young, it’s just a game.” Coleman warns that at parties and other gatherings, young people can unknowingly consume a drug in punch or another drink. “Occasionally, there will be a severe reaction,” says Coleman, who shared a story about a middle school girl at a prom who unwittingly drank LSD-laced punch. She experienced a terrifying psychotic episode.

Coleman says her goal has been to wake up the community. “Denial is so dominant,” she says, “especially in the field of substance abuse. It’s difficult because sometimes when you think you know what the community needs to know, there might not always be the reciprocal response. MY underlying motivator has been prevention.”

Involved in the Grants Pass substance abuse disorder community, Coleman teaches that the organizations she works with offer addicted individuals education, support and treatment. Their goal is to become stable for themselves, their families and then become team members of the community. Coleman points out that the pilot program, Grace Roots Pathways to Wellness was founded in Grants Pass, Oregon. Steering committee members include many specialists from the medical field, attorneys, teachers and law enforcement individuals. A Gold Star Treatment Program was also recruited from Bend, Oregon because the community was truly open to it. Coleman cited Sheriff Dave Daniels as being instrumental in guiding the program to provide treatment services at the Grants Pass jail. These services include teaching incarcerated people about health diets. “We want to remove the substance and replace it with a healthy diet,” says Coleman.

Kleyne, host of the internationally syndicated The Power of Water® & Your Health sponsored by Nature’s Tears® EyeMist®, naturally pH balanced water technology for acid mantle protection, on VoiceAmerica World Talk Radio & Apple iTunes, reminded listeners in her 15-minute Commentary that for thirteen years on the air she has encouraged adults to “hold a child’s heart in your hand”. Kleyne believes that we’re forgetting the children. “The kitchen table of the parents, of the world,” says Kleyne, “that’s running the children’s lives. We need to get them back to school safely and mentally healthy.” Kleyne says that every school and every place of employment should begin each day with a health education class that serves as a pep talk, teaching proper health technology hygiene habits that we need to follow for the rest of our lives. These habits include taking temperatures regularly, washing the hands and face with a washrag to rid the skin and complexion of toxins, drinking 8-10 glasses of pure water every day to flush the body out, and wearing a mask at all times in public places for immunity strength protection. The mask protects everyone from the spit that can carry the virus and transmit it to others. Kleyne also warns that “the organ of the eye is the weakest organ because it is exposed to the water vapor and everything. The organ of the eye can become the carrier.”

Educating people, listening and acting together in communities as team players can curb addiction and restore health, Kleyne and Coleman agree.
