The Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) has joined the KONZA Nationwide Network and established The Mississippi Health Access Exchange (MHAX), a physician-led statewide electronic Health Information Exchange.

“MSMA is excited to facilitate this physician-led effort with an HIE advisory council comprised of physician leaders,” said Dr. Claude Brunson, MSMA Executive Director. “This physician-led approach will aid in alleviating unnecessary burdens on both physicians and patients, through the sharing of clinical information at the point-of-care. We are confident that MHAX will drastically improve the sharing of clinical data and drive improvements in patient care, while supporting the independence of our member physicians in the newly emerging health care environment.”

Through this new HIE, clinicians in Mississippi will be able to share critical patient information at the point of care, supporting improved care quality and better patient health outcomes. Physicians and other clinicians can view patient data from participating providers securely and quickly and will no longer be dependent upon antiquated faxing.

Since KONZA connects hospitals, physician practices, and healthcare providers nationwide, participant clinicians and hospitals in Mississippi that participate in MHAX will have immediate access to patient data from large Mississippi health systems including The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Singing River Health System and Baptist Memorial Health Care, as well as patient data from other states in the KONZA network including neighboring Louisiana. Furthermore, participants can utilize KONZA’s analytics tools and services to aggregate near real time clinical data on their patients. Providers will be able to stratify high risk patients, identify 30- day readmission patterns, support opioid initiatives, send and receive alerts and better track quality measure performance. Lastly, MHAX provides a free personal health record to all Mississippi patients so they can access their own medical records.

“As one of the largest medical record exchange networks in the nation, KONZA is pleased to welcome the Mississippi Health Access eXchange (MHAX) to the KONZA Network. It is an honor to partner with Mississippi health care providers and the Mississippi State Medical Association. We look forward to supporting their mission of maintaining quality patient care in Mississippi,” said Laura McCrary, Ed.D, President and CEO of KONZA.
