The legacy of swimmer Rowdy Gaines has just grown even larger. The three-time Olympic gold medalist and International Swimming Hall of Famer is leaving his impact on Orlando-area swimmers: he just helped to bring an Endless Pools® Elite model to their local YMCA for technique and endurance training.
Gaines has a decades-long history with Endless Pools; he’s owned two of their models to help him stay active from the convenience of home. A familiar face to swim fans for his analysis on the ESPN and NBC networks, Gaines also serves as Vice President, Aquatics, for YMCA of Central Florida, which operates 22 locations across six counties.
Said Gaines, “Everyone in the YMCA of Central Florida community owes a great debt of gratitude to the team at Endless Pools. Their top-of-the-line Elite model will put world-class training opportunities within reach for the widest possible swath of Orlando residents.”
The partnership between Endless Pools and the YMCA of Central Florida will include live-streaming events; viewers around the world will be able to watch Gaines offer technique training tips using the Endless Pools current. Additionally, Gaines will personally coach young swimmers in the up-close, hands-on environment afforded by Endless Pools’ swim-in-place technology.

The Endless Pools installation resides on the swim deck of the Rosen YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando. Alongside its lap-pool programs, the YMCA will use the Endless Pools adjustable swim current for endurance and technique training. By permitting in-place swimming, the Endless Pools current creates unprecedented opportunities for real-time stroke correction. The pool features an underwater Swim Mirror to help swimmers monitor their hand entry, pull through, and shoulder rolls with immediate feedback.
The Endless Pools Elite model features the company’s smoothest current with the fastest top speed. The current adjusts from near-zero speeds for beginners to a challenging sprint pace of 51 seconds per 100 yards. The Elite model has been installed at universities including Penn State, USC, and Auburn as well as at the corporate headquarters of swim gear brands Speedo USA and ROKA. An Endless Pools Elite model is also available for swimmers at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The pool’s grand opening will be part of the 2019 Renovation Dedication Celebration on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at 10:00 am, at the Rosen YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida.
