BOSTON (PRWEB)

As part of it’s expansion of their Digital Health R&D Sandbox Program, Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI) has announced that it has awarded a grant to TechSpring, the Baystate Health Technology Innovation Center. This grant will enable them to work with Nutrimedy ,“…to access TechSpring’s product development acceleration services and work with experienced Innovation Managers to test and validate their products in a real healthcare environment.”
Nutrimedy’s mission is to improve health and reduce the epidemic burden of chronic disease by improving access to convenient, expert, personalized and affordable nutritional counseling. Through the grant, Nutrimedy, based in Brookline, will work with TechSpring’s Innovation Managers to complete the discovery, planning, and execution of a pilot project that will provide Nutrimedy’s patient-facing nutritional support platform to oncology patients at Baystate Health pre-surgery. Nutrimedy will work with TechSpring and Baystate Health to gather user feedback from the participating patients and clinicians and to assess the effectiveness in Nutrimedy’s platform in helping increase patients’ access to clinical nutrition care and to reach their pre-surgical nutritional goals.
“There is a high prevalence of malnutrition in cancer patients, with some studies showing that as many as 80% of patients have some degree of malnutrition. Access to clinical nutrition care through Nutrimedy will allow patients to connect with a dietitian remotely and be proactively managed prior to surgery,” said Karolina Starczak, CEO of Nutrimedy.
The funding for the Sandbox Program is part of Massachusetts’ “…efforts to boost the digital health ecosystem under the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative.” This grant will allow Nutrimedy to access TechSpring’s unique innovation environment to more quickly test, validate, and advance their product. “The mutual benefit of working with Nutrimedy is that we get to learn together how to scale these types of digital tools,” said Jill McCormick, Director of Design and Innovation at TechSpring, based in Springfield, Mass.
Mallory Franklin, Chief Clinical Officer of Nutrimedy, spearheaded the effort to receive the Sandbox Grant. She says, “Cancer-related malnutrition is the cause of death in as many as 40% of cancer patients and providing clinical nutrition care through telehealth can remove barriers to access for patients. That’s why with the support of the Sandbox Program, we are thrilled to be working with Baystate Health and TechSpring to provide an innovative approach to connecting patients to the care they need through Nutrimedy’s digital health platform.”
