“Fruit Street programs can reverse the progression of disease, reduce personal health care costs and reduce the risk for heart disease and other chronic conditions.”

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) has announced the addition of telehealth leader Fruit Street Health (Fruit Street) to its Lifestyle Medicine Corporate Roundtable, a group of individuals and organizations whose collective vision is sustainable human health, a sustainable health care system and a sustainable world.

Fruit Street is a physician-funded diabetes prevention and weight loss program delivered via telehealth company based in New York City. Fruit Street currently offers the only CDC-recognized online diabetes prevention program (DPP) delivered through live video chat with Registered Dietitians. Founded in 2014 as a public benefit corporation, Fruit Street has raised capital from more than 300+ physicians who are dedicated to making a lasting social impact in health care.

Fruit Street is proven to help people lose five to seven percent of their body weight, which not only improves their overall health, it can reverse the progression of disease, reduce personal health care costs and reduce the risk for heart disease and other chronic conditions. As the only fully recognized diabetes prevention program that is delivered by live group video, Fruit Street offers a more effective program, based on the proven impact of social support which increases engagement and results in a higher rate of goal attainment.

This April, Fruit Street launched CovidMD™, a new risk assessment, triage and telemedicine platform created to help the health care system respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. On CovidMD, the public is given trusted information about their exposure and health risk for developing serious illness from COVID-19 based on CDC guidelines, personalized details on available healthcare resources, and the opportunity to connect with a doctor via live video chat for a telemedicine appointment. Ken Germano, PhD, DrPH, MPH, Executive Vice President of Physician Engagement and Network Development for Fruit Street, said as a public benefit corporation, the company seeks to work and collaborate with organizations and associations who share a common mission in creating social impact.

“Based on the common threads of science and evidence-based health services, continuing education, valid programming and broad reaching professional forums, together, ACLM and Fruit Street/CovidMD may leverage a collective asset regarding our joint commitment to promoting healthy lifestyle choices through our platforms and professional populations,” said Germano.

“Fruit Street offers telemedicine products that are unique to the market,” said ACLM President Dexter Shurney, MD, MBA, MPH, FACLM, DipABLM. “CovidMD is just one example of their agility to bring necessary software forward to provide practical solutions. ACLM welcomes Fruit Street to the Lifestyle Medicine Corporate Roundtable.”

The Corporate Roundtable of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine convenes health care and lifestyle thought leaders, with a keen focus on the power of Lifestyle Medicine to transform health and health care. Roundtable members explore effective Lifestyle Medicine clinical applications, strategies for accelerating reimbursement, and adoption and analysis of potential business-related opportunities. The Roundtable launched in 2015 and has grown to include more than 30 active member organizations.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF LIFESTYLE MEDICINE:

ACLM is the medical professional society for those dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of Lifestyle Medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable health care system. Lifestyle Medicine is the use of a whole food, plant-predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection as a primary therapeutic modality for treatment and reversal of chronic disease.

More than a professional association, ACLM is a galvanized force for change. ACLM addresses the need for quality education and certification, supporting its members in their individual practices and in their collective mission to domestically and globally promote Lifestyle Medicine as the first treatment option, as opposed to a first option of treating symptoms and consequences with expensive, ever increasing quantities of pills and procedures. ACLM members are united in their desire to identify and eradicate the root cause of disease. Learn more at http://www.LifestyleMedicine.org.
