MedTech Start Up Founders Encouraged to Apply to Participate in 2020 Cohort

The Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC) announced today that the MedTech IGNITE program is now accepting applications from startup founders and CEOs to participate in the 2020 IGNITE Cohort.

The MedTech IGNITE Program is a virtual accelerator offering an experiential training, mentorship and networking curriculum, to attract and nurture the next generation of Boston-area medtech founders and entrepreneurs. IGNITE was relaunched in 2019 with a cohort of 16 companies and support from a grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. In 2019, IGNITE hosted 10 bootcamps and workshops; increased Cohort members’ visibility with potential partners, investors and employees; Cohort members made company presentations at the MassMEDIC MedTech Showcase at DeviceTalks Boston, and several cohort members won significant prizes including MassChallenge and the BRIght Futures Prize.

“We could not be more pleased with the relaunch of IGNITE and we are thrilled to announce the significant new initiatives in 2020, that are intended to support, engage and enrich the medtech ecosystem in Massachusetts,” said Brian Johnson, President of MassMEDIC. “MassMEDIC is grateful to our sponsors and the IGNITE Steering Committee for stepping up and giving of their time and expertise to mentor and grow the medtech startup community in the Boston area. Boston is the epicenter of medical technology innovation and entrepreneurship. The IGNITE program is the premier program to showcase the incredible talent here and provide mentorship and support to entrepreneurs and founders building devices to improve care and save lives.”

The 2020 IGNITE program promises to be bigger and stronger, with several new initiatives and features including:

  • Up to $70,000 in cash and services to select 2020 Cohort members
  • Expanded Steering Committee
  • New Corporate Sponsors including Propel, Alira Health and Boyd Technologies
  • Additional Expert Faculty for workshops and bootcamps
  • New website designed to create an online community for all stakeholders in the medtech ecosystem to meet, connect and collaborate.
