Amplify Surgical®, Inc. Announces FIRST dualPortal™ Endoscopic Spine Procedure

Amplify Surgical, Inc., a medical device company focused on innovative minimally invasive surgery for the lumbar spine, is pleased to announce that Dr. Don Young Park performed the FIRST dualPortal Endoscopic Spine procedure at UCLA Health supported with Amplify Surgical’s enabling technologies. This is a significant milestone for the company and for the advancement of endoscopic spine surgery.

Dr. Park described the event the best by stating, “dualPortal endoscopy has completely changed my practice. The visualization is much improved as compared to the microscope. There is really no limitation to what I can do with the dualPortal technique! The technique is truly enabling and opens up so many possibilities.” We celebrate this significant achievement with Dr. Park and the greater dualPortal spine surgical community.

Andy Choi, Amplify Surgical CEO, commented, “It is encouraging to witness a vision that was once just a thought become REAL life. The dualPortal endoscopic approach to the spine will allow many surgeons to bring the best in class minimally invasive solution to more patients. It is also the most suitable procedural solution for endoscopic fusion using dualX expandable interbody implants. This marks our first step in the journey to a dualPortal-dualX endoscopic fusion and can’t be more thrilled with the prospects.”

The dualPortal solution is a novel two-portal endoscopic approach to the spine that allows surgeons to easily learn and perform wider array of lumbar spine procedures than the conventional one-portal technique. It also provides flexibility to perform endoscopic lumbar fusions with conventional expandable cages such as dualX. The dualX technology is comprised of a family of titanium expandable interbody devices designed to expand in both width and height, implanted in lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF), posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) spinal procedures. The dualX portfolio contains varying footprints, heights and degrees of lordosis with post-expansion bone grafting to provide a customized anatomical fit for a clinically successful fusion environment.

Guided Meditation Can Help Ease Holiday Stress and Support New Year’s Resolutions

We easily lose sight of our own well-being during the hectic holiday season. Guided meditation offers an easy, practical, and fast way to make time to not only survive—but thrive.

It’s the holiday season, and while love, joy, and “sleeping in heavenly peace” are featured prominently in songs and greeting cards, they can prove elusive. In reality, the pressures of shopping, cooking, entertaining, and family obligations can make it a season of stress and sleepless nights for many.

Demo DiMartile, a seasoned meditation expert and founder of One Light One Spirit, recommends the practice of guided meditation as an essential self-care practice during this busy season. “Relaxation, quality sleep, and time for self-reflection are in short supply during the holidays,” says DiMartile. “That’s where meditation comes in. It’s not just about relaxation. Meditation is transformation! It can not only inoculate us against stress and exhaustion, serve as a foundation of energy, and support a healthy immune system and metabolism, but it also sets the stage for profound and positive life changes in the new year.”

DiMartile feels like there’s no better time to make guided meditation a priority than the holidays. “We easily lose sight of our own well-being during the hectic holiday season. Guided meditation offers an easy, practical, and fast way to make time to not only survive—but thrive.”

Guided meditation works for everyone, according to DiMartile, even those who’ve never meditated before. “You don’t need any experience…just a comfortable spot, a few minutes of uninterrupted time, and headphones or earbuds. Press ‘play’ and you’re meditating!”

To help make guided meditation approaches more accessible during the holiday season and new year, DiMartile has put together three guided meditation holiday gift sets available at a discounted price.

Holiday Stress-Busters Set: The Holiday Stress-Busters Set includes “Mastering Deep Relaxation,” which guides listeners through a restorative and relaxing transformational meditation. The “Ultimate Deep Sleep Experience” program guides listeners through the release of the accumulated stress of the day and quells the relentless mind chatter that prevents relaxing into deep and restorative sleep. The Holiday Stress-Busters set is available in both CD and MP3 format.

2022 New You Hormone Reset: Health and vitality relies on hormonal balance. The 2022 New You Hormone Reset features three of DiMartile’s most popular meditation programs. “The Thyroid Meditation” helps listeners support the master gland of metabolism and energy. “Hormonal Balance” guides listeners through a meditation and affirmations to help balance the thyroid, adrenals, sex hormones, and other hormones. Finally, because sleep is essential to hormonal balance, the “Ultimate Deep Sleep Experience” meditation leads listeners gently into a full night of healing sleep. The 2022 New You Hormone Reset set is available in both CD and MP3 sets.

New Year’s Resolutions Set: New Year’s resolutions are often hard to keep. Says DiMartile, “The New Year’s Resolutions set offers practical tools to help listeners make 2022 the year they find and follow an authentic life path, relax more, and get better sleep.” This set features DiMartile’s newest meditation, “Embracing Your Soul Purpose,” which guides listeners toward the integration of mind, body, instinct, intellect, and love. The set also includes the “Ultimate Deep Sleep Experience,” and “Mastering Deep Relaxation.” New Year’s Resolutions is available as a set of 3 MP3 audio programs.

These specially-priced holiday sets are available through January 7, 2022, at Demo DiMartile’s online store, https://demo-dimartile.sellfy.store.

Dental Whale Chooses Sunbit as Preferred Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) Technology Partner

Sunbit offers dental consumers the ability to pay for purchases over time, getting the dental work they need when they need it.

Our patient financing approval rates have doubled with Sunbit…the extremely fast approval process…enables us to fulfill more treatment plans and provide a better experience for patients and staff.

Industry trailblazer Dental Whale®, which continues to successfully steer dentists in private practice toward better and more efficient business solutions, today announced it has selected Sunbit as its preferred Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) solution. Dental Whale is the nation’s leading solutions provider for 19,000+ private dentists and dental support organizations (DSO), providing marketing, scheduling, repair, equipment and technology solutions to improve their practices. Effective today, Dental Whale will recommend Sunbit to all of the dental practices across the U.S. that the company supports.

Dental Whale Leader, Joe Cavarett said, “When we experienced how Sunbit generated increased case acceptance and scheduled treatment for our own Practice Group patients, we wanted to share their financing solution with our members and their patients. Every patient deserves to be given a comprehensive treatment plan and financing options. Sunbit helps practices support the oral health of more patients.”

Sunbit has rapidly become the de facto BNPL leader in the dental industry, with a broad spectrum of patients approved with excellent terms and no hidden fees. Moreover, Sunbit powers the application process and manages the collections process. The dental office gets paid immediately, which contributes directly to the cash flow of the business.

Based on its own Sunbit pilot program at select locations, Dental Whale confirmed that Sunbit offers access to best-in-class approval rates, terms, and support for dental leaders and their patients. Sunbit offers access to financing for dental procedures with 6, 12, 18 and 24 month payment plan options, and 85% of patients who apply using Sunbit technology are approved. All well-qualified patients get access to 0% for 6- or 12-month payment plans.

“We piloted Sunbit at two of the Dental Whale locations, and we were amazed — in the first 90 days, their technology approved 87% of patients, helping us generate $126K in additional production,“ said Dr. Steven Wingfield, DMD & Practice Management Focus Area Leader at Dental Whale. “Our patient financing approval rates have doubled with Sunbit. Not to mention the extremely fast approval process, which enables us to fulfill more treatment plans and provide a better experience for the patients and staff. We are excited to extend the program to all of our locations,” he added.

Sunbit is proving that Buy Now, Pay Later offers dental practices a valuable new option for dental care financing and access. Sunbit removes the friction from the financing process to make it a closing tool instead of a pain point for patients — reducing embarrassing declines, scrambling for financing alternatives, and treatment delays.

“Dental Whale is a market stand out, and we couldn’t be more excited about their decision,” said Paul Monahan, Executive Director of Business Development, Dental at Sunbit. “We feel like there is significant synergy between our organizations, from Dental Whale’s white glove approach to client support, to its proven ability to benefit a practice’s bottom line, to its philosophy and mission. Today is an exciting first step in what we hope is a long-standing relationship,” he added.

Using Digital Pathology to Determine the Role of Tumor-Infiltrating B-Cells in Clinical Outcomes of Patients with Melanoma, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

This is believed to be the first large-scale analysis of gene expression signatures, tumor cell interactions and T- and B-cell interactions by digital pathology in patients treated with targeted therapy.

Biomarkers are needed to identify patients who benefit most from targeted or immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy in metastatic melanoma. This webinar will share an analysis of biomarkers using pre-treatment melanoma samples from the dabrafenib plus trametinib arm of the randomized, Phase III COMBI-v trial using the HALO® image analysis platform combined with gene expression analysis using the Nanostring nCounter technology.

This is believed to be the first large-scale analysis of gene expression signatures, tumor cell interactions and T- and B-cell interactions by digital pathology in patients treated with targeted therapy. Distinct T-cell/B-cell signatures at baseline demonstrated prognostic value, as high T-cell/low B-cell signatures were associated with prolonged survival vs. high T-cell/high B-cell signatures. B cells may be potential biomarkers to identify patients who could achieve improved clinical benefit.

Join this webinar to learn:

  • How biomarker analysis with digital pathology coupled with gene expression analysis can identify T- and B-cell signatures with prognostic value in melanoma
  • How digital image analysis can identify tumor and stroma compartments and perform cell-by-cell analysis of biomarker positivity within the respective compartments to identify and quantify cellular phenotypes
  • How spatial analysis can provide insight into interactions between T- and B-cells

Join Ken Schultz, Principal Scientist, Novartis, for the live webinar on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 1pm EST.

Beautifully Illustrated Children’s Book Celebrates Diversity With a Creative Lesson for Young Readers

News Image

“When my sons were very young, I taught them how God created people using His crayon box and even though someone may look or sound different, we were all created equally by Him,” said Scotto.

When God created the Earth, He made it beautiful until He realized something was missing: people. In author Mickey Scotto’s debut children’s book, “God’s Big Crayon Box: We are all so much more alike than we are different!” the author pulls from lessons she taught her own sons about God creating humans and how He used His big box of crayons to color people, animals and the world using different colors. “God’s Big Crayon Box” highlights diversity while keeping the lesson at the most simplistic level for even very young readers to understand.

Throughout the colorful pages, the author shows readers how God used His big box of crayons to create humans and used colors such as white, black, brown and more. He also used different colors for their eyes and used all the other crayons in His box for nature, the animals and insects. God’s people spoke different languages and came from different places on the earth, but He loved them all the same. The author emphasizes how God was pleased with the uniqueness He created, making people of different colors and shapes, each special in their own way.

“When my sons were very young, I taught them how God created people using His crayon box and even though someone may look or sound different, we were all created equally by Him,” said Scotto. “This continued to serve as a basis in their life for treating everyone equally and understanding God created us all as humans. I wanted to share this important lesson with other children.”

Ultimately, “God’s Big Crayon Box” brings joy to readers by showing them the fun God had creating the world with different colors and how much He loves all the differences in His creations. The lesson presented throughout encourages a creative and fundamental way to educate children about diversity.

New Study to Investigate Impact of Pets on Recovery of the Gut Microbiome Following Antibiotic Regimen in Older Adults

News Image

“In conducting this study, our goal is to shed light on the microbial exchanges that occur between pets and pet owners and assess whether pets can mitigate disruption of their owner’s gut microbiome following antibiotic therapy.”

The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) announced today it has awarded a new research grant, titled “Sharing is caring: can pets protect their owners against antibiotic-associated disruption of the gut microbiome?”, to the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) to investigate whether pets are a source of microbiota that can help restore deficiencies in their owner’s gut microbiome.

“A growing number of studies have documented the ability of animal contact to impact the human microbiome (collection of microbes in the intestines) in ways that may help prevent certain types of disease, such as cardiovascular disease and asthma,” said Dr. Laurel Redding, VMD, PhD, DACVPM, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Penn Vet, the project’s Principal Investigator. “In conducting this study, our goal is to shed light on the microbial exchanges that occur between pets and pet owners and assess whether pets can mitigate disruption of their owner’s gut microbiome following antibiotic therapy.”

This groundbreaking project will follow pet owners over 60 years old who are taking antibiotics for dental implant placement. Antibiotics disrupt the native gut microbiome, which can result in a range of outcomes, from mild diarrhea to severe “C. diff” infection (infection with Clostridioides difficile), and the elderly are particularly at risk for some of these adverse outcomes. Recovery from this type of disruption is not well understood, and factors that promote this recovery are only beginning to be explored. Researchers hypothesize that the gut microbiomes of pet owners and their pets will resemble each other prior to the course of antibiotics, diverge during the disruption phase, then steadily converge during the recovery phase. In demonstrating that animal contact can yield beneficial effects on the restoration of the human gut microbiome, results of this study may reduce concerns about and even promote contact with household pets for older adults. Thus, in addition to other documented mental and physical health benefits, pets may also offer “probiotic” effects to their owners.

“HABRI is proud to fund research that will contribute to our understanding of the physiological health benefits of the human-animal bond,” said Steven Feldman, President, HABRI. “We know that pets and people are good for each other, and it’s exciting that we can still discover new evidence underlying this powerful, mutually-beneficial relationship.”

About the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine

Ranked among the top ten veterinary schools worldwide, the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) is a global leader in veterinary education, research, and clinical care. Founded in 1884, Penn Vet is the first veterinary school developed in association with a medical school.
