“We benefited greatly from these applications and intend to utilize similar technologies for our future applications,” said Jim Burpoe, Orange County County’s Commissioner of General Services, and Information Technology.

Innovative platforms provide daily information about employee health and vaccine availability and registration updates

UTC, a leading solutions-based business and technology consulting firm, has expanded its support of Orange County, N.Y. Government with the creation of an innovative Network Operations Center dedicated to the County’s technology requirements. UTC previously designed two applications providing accelerated COVID-19-related logistics support for Orange County, located in the scenic Hudson Valley.

The first application provides County government employees with real-time reporting capability, allowing the County to monitor the health and attendance of employees. This platform provides for contactless notification of any employee reporting COVID-19 symptoms or related activities that would require them to stay quarantined.

The second application gives the County the ability to notify residents of the availability of vaccines. Residents can register to receive a vaccination through the program.

Both applications were built utilizing serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, Amazon Amplify, Amazon API Gateway, App Sync, DynamoDB, Amazon Cognito and Amazon S3 and required rapid scaling of users, from zero to 23,000, without any infrastructure overhead and management of those. Each of these applications were deployed and launched within two weeks of development.

“These two UTC solutions delivered a much-needed mechanism for serving the employees and citizens to respond to COVID-19 and its derivative damage to the local population and economy,” said Jim Burpoe, Orange County County’s Commissioner of General Services, and Information Technology. “These two applications were much needed in Orange County, where we are still encountering the everyday challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was impressed to see the power of cloud-based technologies as these two applications were rapidly developed, and seamlessly scaled, meeting all the key requirements.”

Burpoe said that the requirements included administrative controls, user management, data extraction, external and internal communication based on responses, and reduced infrastructure management.

“We benefited greatly from these applications and intend to utilize similar technologies for our future applications,” Burpoe added.

“Organizations throughout the world have been prioritizing safe and healthy workplaces to protect employees during COVID-19,” said Faisal Hanafi, Director of Sales for U.S. State and Local Government/K-12, East, for Amazon Web Services. “Providing Orange County with contactless communications channels to receive important health information will help make their work environment safer. We are proud that these applications were set up and launched quickly, and the functions of each of them will continue to be useful in a post-COVID-19 environment.”

UTC Associates CEO Aziz Ahmad added: “We have been using cloud technologies for some time. The power of serverless technologies and the AWS Cloud provides UTC with a far more flexible and rapid experience with application development. It has helped equip us to further provide our customers with real-time, scalable, secure, and agile applications that enable them to handle disruptive social, health care and economic dynamics, such as COVID-19. UTC invested in developing the resources it needed for best utilizing serverless technologies from AWS for our customers. Our next step is to develop a Network Operations Center dedicated to supporting Orange County’s technology needs”

UTC associates developed, deployed, and are continuing to maintain these applications.

MākuSafe Launches Motion Explorer Aimed At Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) and Repetitive Motion Injuries

warehouse workers wearing MakuSafe wearable safety device

MākuSafe’s Motion Explorer Helps Prevent Musculoskeletal Disorders and Cumulative Trauma

MSDs are the single largest category of workplace injuries and are responsible for almost 30 percent of all workers’ compensation costs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

MākuSafe announced the launch of a game-changing new feature in its EHS analytics software today. The new feature, Motion Explorer, will provide safety professionals, ergonomists, and risk managers with the data they need to uncover potential hazardous motion issues among workers before they become serious injuries. Hazardous motion and ergonomic injuries, like Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) have been highlighted in recent headlines. MSD’s are both common and costly. In fact, MSDs are the single largest category of workplace injuries and are responsible for almost 30 percent of all workers’ compensation costs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Motion Explorer provides the data companies need to better understand and evaluate motions and take corrective action before an injury causes a worker to seek medical attention or lose days of work.

Visualize Worker Effort Expended Over Time

Motion Explorer was born out of MākuSafe’s desire to study hazardous repetitive and high-force motions over time. Motion Explorer allows for both of these in a highly visual and interactive way that is both easy-to-understand and actionable. Algorithmically, the new tool is able to deduce the intensity of a worker’s effort expended and arrive at conclusions about the level of potential impact on them for each day. The worker is then ranked and their physicality is compared against other workers. This is accompanied by a list of contributing indicators and data, including types of movement, where it happened and when it happened.

Easily Compare Multiple Data Sets

Motion Explorer, like the rest of the MākuSmart dashboard, enables filtering so it becomes easy to see data points such as:

  • Overall physicality of an individual worker or group of workers by role
  • Which workers rank highest in terms of effort expended
  • How they compare to others, who for example, may do the same job.

MākuSafe gathers data important to understanding risks before incidents occur, all with a high degree of concern for worker privacy not collecting anything personal or biometric.

Avoid Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) Using Data

The impetus for the creation of Motion Explorer was found during a closer look at data from a manufacturing customer. MākuSafe deployed at four sites within the same company. These sites were all performing the same work roles, laid out similarly, using the same machines at similar workstations, etc. The data, manually pulled from MākuSmart, showed two roles at one facility were working 750% harder in doing their jobs than the same roles being performed at three other sites. This raised a need for further study about how people are working, and what’s most efficient. These workers were experiencing such a higher degree of impact, and inevitably a larger toll on their bodies, when compared to other workers doing the same tasks. This is what leads to musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s), and cumulative trauma over time, including sprains, strains and exertion incidents, which are expensive and a significant focus for many industries, but especially in materials handling jobs.

Motion Explorer empowers teams to gain these insights now in a few clicks. For ergonomists, this is a wealth of data not easily accessible before. For front line safety managers, it makes it easy to examine and uncover potential issues in a simple way, even in small to medium sized company where they are the entire safety team.

About MākuSafe

MākuSafe is an award-winning safety data and analytics company, proven to reduce the frequency and severity of industrial workplace accidents. Our mission is to improve worker health, safety, and productivity while reducing worker compensation claims and mitigating workplace hazards and risk exposures. MākuSafe’s patented wearable technology gathers real-time leading indicators of environmental conditions, potentially hazardous motion data, near-miss voice memos from workers, and the location of these occurrences within a facility or site. Our cloud platform, MākuSmart, takes in data from our wearable tech and other Industry 4.0 IIoT systems and equipment, then uses machine learning and AI to identify high-risk trends in the facility, aid process efficiencies, and provides automation integration potential. MākuSmart makes hazard intelligence immediately actionable, proactively targets remediation resources to specific conditions and occurrences, and streamlines compliance reporting as well as offering contact tracing features. Northbrook Chiropractor

In many instances, the symptoms caused by back or neck pain can cascade into numbness and tingling down your arm, which puts stress on the heart and lungs

Northbrook IL, Chiropractor – Align Wellness Center, a leading provider of patient-centered, outcome-driven chiropractic care and spinal remodeling, announced today that it received the 2021 Glenbrook Reader’s Choice Award for Best Chiropractor. Thousands of readers voted, and the results were published in both the Glenview and Northbrook Heralds.

“This is incredibly exciting and quite an honor,” said Dr. Gregg Gerstin, owner of Align Wellness Center. “We were recognized not only for our services and dedication to keeping our patients healthy, but also because of our investment in the Glenview and Northbrook communities.”

Align Wellness Center works with local businesses to provide onsite programs for employees so they can take action to improve and sustain their health. Additionally, the practice works with local resources like the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, and participates in village events to educate people in the community.

Align Wellness recognizes that total health begins with the spine, and issues that aren’t addressed properly develop into bigger problems. “In many instances, the symptoms caused by back or neck pain can cascade into numbness and tingling down your arm, which puts stress on the heart and lungs,” adds Dr. Gerstin. “Then you realize your energy and metabolism are lower, which can lead to sleep apnea, then–if you’re a younger person–you end up taking more medications than the average 60-year-old.”

Align Wellness Center’s greatest differentiator is finding and treating the root causes of pain and ailments rather than just chasing the symptoms. The center offers a broad spectrum of treatment services from back, neck, and shoulder pain care to whiplash, sciatica, scoliosis, sports injury treatment, and more. The clinical team are CBP (Chiropractic BioPhysics) certified and are uniquely qualified to provide true spinal correction, improved activities of daily living, longer lasting pain relief, and improved neurological function. Another unique feature of the center is its corrective solutions for migraines, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD), and Vertigo:

Migraines: chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercises, and spinal remodeling to strengthen and stabilize the spin, and in specific cases special spinal remodeling for spinal curving optimization

TMJD: spinal posture correction with Chiropractic Biophysics, spinal remodeling, and an exercise program to realign and relieve pain

Vertigo: cervical spine corrective treatments to relieve tension to cervical curve and stop the dizziness, disorientation, and other symptoms of vertigo

C4UHC Provides New RFP Toolkit To Help Healthcare Providers

“This toolkit evolved from a healthcare provider’s request for questions in order to evaluate vendor credentialing organizations alignment with the new ANSI/NEMA Standard,” explained Mickey Kaufman, C4UHC executive director. “We realized that other providers might find this useful as well.”

The Consortium for Universal Healthcare Credentialing (C4UHC), a not-for-profit national industry association comprised of healthcare industry providers, suppliers and other stakeholders, has developed a resource to help healthcare providers evaluate vendor credentialing organizations during an RFP process. This question matrix is designed to assess an organization’s alignment with the new ANSI/NEMA SC 1-2020 American National Standard for Supplier Credentialing in Healthcare, which provides guidance to enable consistent, cost-effective and compliant credentialing of all representatives working in healthcare facilities in the United States.

“This toolkit evolved from a healthcare provider’s request for help,” explained Mickey Kaufman, C4UHC executive director. “The provider had issued an RFP to several vendor credentialing organizations and needed to know what specific questions to ask that would help them evaluate each candidate’s alignment with the new ANSI/NEMA Standard. We realized that other providers might find this useful as well, so we created a comprehensive document designed to help any healthcare provider.”

The toolkit provides specific questions covering general alignment, data management, fees and payments, safety management, data platform functionality, implementation planning, and specific personally identifiable information, personal health information and health record collection methods. For each question, the toolkit details the significance of the question for providers, suppliers and third-party organizations involved with the process.

Interested providers and suppliers may request the RFP Toolkit by visiting https://c4uhc.org/contact/ and completing the request form.

About C4UHC

The mission of C4UHC, a 501 (c)(6) tax exempt corporation, is to promote the common business interests of organizations connected with the healthcare industry in order to advance American National Standards for a streamlined healthcare credentialing process. This will protect patient safety and confidentiality, eliminate duplicative efforts and costs, and meet the needs of both healthcare providers and suppliers.

Linked Senior Launches Celo Context to Further Resident Engagement and Enable Social Prescription in Senior Living

Prior to the global pandemic, a 2016 CDC report indicated that assisted living residents receive just 20 minutes of engagement per day (outside of assistance with ADLs and IADLs) and long-term care residents receive only 11 minutes of engagement. While the COVID-19 pandemic and current staffing crisis have negatively impacted senior living communities, providers have also increased their commitment to drastically improving the resident experience.

Linked Senior’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Moore shared his excitement about the launch of Celo Context, saying, “Our goal has always been to provide our customers with tools to help them better engage their residents and empower their staff. This has become even more critical as communities deal with COVID-19 and staffing shortages. Celo Context allows customers to define goals and track progress against those goals so they can visually track progress and communicate successes and challenges in a manner accessible to all stakeholders. This kind of communication allows staff and family to provide better care to residents.”

Melissa Dillon, Director of Garden House at Merrill Gardens in Seattle, Washington echoed these sentiments, sharing, “The upgrade of the new Linked Senior platform is fantastic. The ability to analyze the engagement offered to our residents will foster a better understanding of how to continue to improve our memory care programs. Best of all it saves me time in reporting successes, from teams to the home office leadership.”

Elsa Haile, Life Enrichment Director at Barclay Friends (part of The Kendal Corporation) in West Chester, Pennsylvania shared that, “Celo Context was super easy to use, more colorful to see the visuals and I found the device tab very interesting.”

The Celo Context product will be made available immediately to current Linked Senior customers in conjunction with the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) annual conference and additional functionalities will be offered throughout 2022.

###

Linked Senior is an evidence-based resident engagement platform for senior living. The platform optimizes the person-centered experience for residents by empowering staff with digital tools to assess, plan, implement and evaluate engagement for the entire resident population.

Study Shows Active Ingredient in Solace PS128 Daily Probiotic Supplement Improved Motor Score and Quality of Life of Parkinson’s Disease Patients

solaceprobiotic.com

“Clinical studies have shown potential benefits not only for Parkinson’s disease, but also for clinical depression, anxiety and children with autism,” said David Lee, president of Oryx Biomedical.

New study findings show that PS128, the active ingredient in Solace PS128, a daily gut-brain probiotic, improved the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and the quality of life of Parkinson’s disease patients.

The clinical study, published by Frontiers in Nutrition, demonstrated that “PS128 supplementation for 12 weeks with constant anti-parkinsonian medication improved the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) motor score and quality of life of Parkinson’s disease patients.”

The authors of the study suggest “PS128 could serve as a therapeutic adjuvant for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. In the future, placebo-controlled studies are needed to further support the efficacy of PS128 supplementation.”

Solace PS128, sold by Oryx Biomedical, is a potent gut-brain probiotic available to the U.S. market. Solace is the only single-strain PS128 product in the United States.

Lactobacillus plantarum PS128, the potent beneficial bacteria found in Solace, is a naturally derived and scientifically tested daily probiotic supplement that supports the digestive and immune systems. Lactobacillus plantarum PS128 has self-affirmed USA FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status. As a gut-brain probiotic, Solace PS128 also has positive mental benefits and promotes a balanced, healthy mood. Each capsule of Solace contains approximately 30 billion CFUs of the highly researched PS128 strain.

“It is exciting that there is so much scientific research being conducted on PS128,” said David Lee, president of Oryx Biomedical. “The active ingredient in Solace PS128 is backed by real science. Clinical studies have shown potential benefits not only for Parkinson’s disease, but also for clinical depression, anxiety and children with autism.”

Currently, the most common Parkinson’s medication is levodopa, which replenishes dopamine. However, its effectiveness decreases over time. PS128 may help compensate for this decrease by ameliorating akinesia. Reversing akinesia, the loss of motor control, for people with Parkinson’s can be life-changing, as akinesia impacts nearly all daily activities.

Such symptoms of Parkinson’s disease may be caused by a neuroinflammatory molecule known as MPO. Studies have shown MPO levels dropped after PS128 administration, resulting in marked improvement in total score, mobility, activities of daily living, stigma, and cognition. PS128’s potential to attenuate Parkinson’s disease symptoms is leading to additional clinical trials.

PS128 was isolated by Bened Biomedical Co., Ltd. The powerful gut-brain strain in Solace PS128 has been the focus of multiple research and clinical studies by scientist and professor Ying-Chieh Tsai, chief founder of Bened Biomedical. Research is currently being conducted on the benefits of Lactobacillus plantarum PS128 on: Movement disorders, Major depressive disorder and Parkinson’s disease.

Previous research and clinical studies of PS128 have shown its positive effects on stress and anxiety, insomnia, and autism spectrum disorder. Patents of PS128 have been awarded in the United States, European Union, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea.

The strain Lactobacillus plantarum PS128 was isolated after a rigorous screening process of nearly one thousand strains of bacteria. This strain was tested for potency, effectiveness, and the ability to affect mental wellness. PS128 is a natural bacteria extracted from Brassica juncea, commonly known as brown mustard.

PS128 was proven to strengthen the immune and digestive systems, as well as improve mental health by modulating stress, reducing anxiety, and promoting a balanced mood. PS128 was named the Probiotic Product of the Year Winner at the 2018 NutraIngredients-Asia Awards.

“Solace PS128 is a healthy, safe and natural way to improve mental wellness and overall health,” said Lee. “Solace PS128 is the result of more than 20 years of scientific research. We are excited to make this probiotic available and see the positive impact it will have on the mental wellbeing and health of people across the United States.”

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
