Techstars Announces Future of Longevity Class of 2021

Techstars has announced the Class of 2021 Techstars Future of Longevity Accelerator, in partnership with Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation company created by Melinda French Gates to advance social progress in the United States. The Accelerator, which has quickly emerged as the premier ecosystem for supporting early-stage innovation in the category, focuses on innovative solutions to address the unmet needs of older adults and their caregivers. Program themes include aging in place, caregiver support, care coordination, financial wellness, preventive health, and social engagement.

The 13-week program, which began on November 8th, marks the culmination of months of sourcing and interviewing, to select ten of the most promising startups in the category among the hundreds of applicants and thousands of startup profiles reviewed.

The founding teams of the selected companies will build strong relationships with thought leaders in the longevity space and leverage a mentor network of industry experts, successful entrepreneurs, investors, and prospective partners. Each company will use the program to accelerate the development of their solutions, and by the end of the program, the companies will have engaged with over 100 mentors, formed deep relationships across the Techstars and Pivotal Ventures’ global networks, iterated on their product, business model and growth milestones, and mastered the ability to communicate their vision.

The class will showcase their progress in a Demo Day the week of February 14, 2022.

“The care management of older adults is broken, and HealthHive’s audacious goal is to create a community of caregiving around the individual by moving them, as well as their caregivers, to the center of care and engagement,” said Stephen Farber, CEO of HealthHive, a 2021 Techstars Future of Longevity company. “We could ask for no greater team to help us refine and fulfill our objectives than the highly complementary combination of Techstars and Pivotal.”

The 2021 Techstars Future of Longevity Class represents the experience, tenacity, and deep connection to finding solutions in this space during a time when isolation, financial security, and care navigation have an outsized impact on seniors and caregivers. The class also demonstrates our commitment to investing in diverse-led teams with the majority of the companies being led by underrepresented CEOs, including half by women.

As Veteran’s Day Approaches, Paybotic Shares Some of the Benefits of Cannabis Use and Payment Solutions for Dispensaries

Cannabis payment processing and cannabis credit card processing, cannabis cashless atm

Cannabis Card Processing and Banking Solutions

As Veteran’s Day is approaching, Paybotic turns the attention towards those who can significantly improve their quality of life through cannabis. Cannabis has demonstrated effectiveness in treating a wide range of medical issues, including conditions, injuries, and illnesses.

Veterans are eager to share how cannabis has provided them with effective relief from a range of symptoms, restoring and improving the quality of their daily lives.

Injured veterans are especially grateful for the accessibility to a healthier, natural alternative for pain relief.

Military veterans who acknowledged using cannabis, 41 percent classified their marijuana use as medical which is two times higher as is reported by adults in the general population according to a sample provided by the National Library of Medicine. Cannabis has demonstrated effectiveness in treating chronic pain and difficult to treat nerve pain.

Doctors had previously prescribed many of these individuals addictive, damaging opioid pain medications. Because of their ability to purchase cannabis products many have been able to stop taking these dangerous substances.

Relief from these symptoms and PTSD has helped veterans become active again, giving them the ability to participate in once-loved activities. Cannabis has also been shown to increase productivity and improve an individual’s overall outlook on life.

Cannabis is effective because it interacts with the body’s endocrine system. The active compounds in the plant, CBD and THC, contain properties that when ingested attach to cells and promote healing from within.

In states where cannabis use is legal, individuals who are new to cannabis can experiment with different forms of the plant and methods of ingestion, as advised by medical professionals. Different types of marijuana contain varying amounts of each compound, causing differing effects.

It has been reported that the highest level of relief can be obtained with products that offer equal levels of both compounds. However, some individuals do not enjoy the euphoria caused by THC, opting for CBD-only products. These have been shown to provide effective relief for some individuals.

Veterans in the area are able to purchase this healing medication at marijuana dispensaries. These stores sell a range of cannabis options, including:

  • Smokeable Flower
  • Capsules
  • Lozenges
  • Topical Treatments (Creams, Lotions, Transdermal Patches)
  • Edibles
  • Vaporizers
  • CBD Oil

It is important for dispensaries to offer their consumers a wide variety of products that meet their needs and quality standards. One of the major complaints from consumers is the lack of payment options that are available at the majority of cannabis dispensaries.

It can be difficult enough for veterans to get to the dispensary to pick up their much-needed cannabis. There is nothing more frustrating than to commute to a dispensary, only to discover that their form of tender is not accepted. A call to action exists for cannabis dispensaries to provide consumers with more payment options that meet their needs.

Paybotic understands that is easier said than done. There are many barriers in place that hinder financial efforts for cannabis dispensaries. Paybotic recognized the need for cannabis-specific payment processing solutions and has rushed to meet this need.

Paybotic offers their clients custom-tailored payment solutions, including rewards programs with the potential to engage and please their customers. Contact Paybotic for more information about cannabis payment solutions.

4Period Addresses Menstrual Product Shortage By Offering Highly-Absorbent Washable Period Panties

4Period sustainable, eco-friendly period underwear.

The sustainable underwear that is woman-owned, tested and approved!

“With the current climate, our underwear is easing much of the frustration among women and giving them the peace of mind knowing they won’t experience any disruption when stocking up on menstrual supplies.”

The massive disruption in the global supply chain industry affects many industries, including personal care and menstruation products. 4Period is aware of the dilemma and is actively working to ensure its clientele receives its essential high absorbency underwear in a timely and cost-effective manner.

With consumer goods manufacturers raising prices due to the scarcity of items, the public is increasingly looking elsewhere for affordable solutions. 4Period has not needed to increase their price tags, with offerings starting at $13.50. Orders ship from Canada within 24 to 48 hours, with consumers receiving items in three to five business days. Overseas orders are accepted as well. The brand also sells on Amazon.

4Period says they have planned ahead with material manufacturers and shipping resources to guarantee no interruption in product delivery. Its consumer base includes those looking for moisture-wicking leak protection for menstruation, postpartum, or urinary incontinence.

“We all recall the recent surge to stock up on toilet paper,” says Cristian Clements, Founder of 4Period. “Now the focus has shifted to overall personal care items, and we see drastic results because of it, with skyrocketing prices and the inability to stock store shelves. At 4Period, we founded the brand to bring economical and sustainable offerings to consumers globally. With the current climate, our underwear is easing much of the frustration among women and giving them the peace of mind knowing they won’t experience any disruption when stocking up on menstrual supplies.”

4Period is a woman-owned brand that has long been at the forefront of encouraging women and teens to switch to period panties for the good of the environment. Women will spend approximately 6.25 years of their life, equaling 2,280 days, on their period. Menstrual products negatively affect the environment when thrown in landfills and our oceans. 4period is an eco-friendly and practical protection option that works to make a difference.

For more information, visit http://www.4period.co.

About 4period:

4period offers eco-friendly, absorbent, leak-proof panties with front and back protection for teens and adults. Wear, wash, repeat. Not looking for leak-proof panties? They also offer a traditional line of panties with a black inside gusset.

Behavioral Medicine Can Reduce Health Disparities for Greater Health Equity

News Image

Patients from racial/ethnic minority groups face greater healthcare challenges such as poorer access to high-quality care, more difficulty accessing pain medication, and longer wait times for treatment.

On World Science Day, the Society of Behavioral Medicine urges everyone to work together for health equity.

Patients from racial/ethnic minority groups face greater healthcare challenges such as poorer access to high-quality care, more difficulty accessing pain medication, and longer wait times for treatment. Behavioral medicine experts work within clinical settings to ensure the healthcare system benefits every patient. Clinicians collect information on patients’ social histories to better understand additional factors that can influence prevention or treatment. This helps patients change unhealthy behaviors while considering their specific needs, including behaviors in place due to unjust social circumstances beyond their control.

Behavioral medicine experts also help create safer spaces in communities to improve physical activity for all, and they are instrumental in shaping policies that make produce more readily available for patients with chronic conditions where food is a key component of management.

Everyone can play a role. Some key ways you can improve health equity include:

  • Do not assume everyone has equal access to resources that can improve or maintain their health.
  • Learn about your personal biases (blind spots we all have) and use that knowledge to promote fairer work, education, or neighborhood environments.
  • Do not hesitate to make stress management and self-care a priority when faced with racism-related stress, and encourage others to do the same.
  • When interacting with the healthcare system, speak up about issues like racism that might affect health or health care to advocate for yourself, your family members, and others.
  • Communicate and demonstrate anti-racist attitudes and actions in your spheres of influence such as your social circle, place of employment, and local community.
  • Become a champion and ally by supporting health policies that address structural racism and other social determinants of health.

About SBM

The Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) is a 2,400-member organization of scientific researchers, clinicians, and educators. CMI Media Group Launches PROACT™ Rep, First and Only Offering Integrating Media and Reps in Real Time

CMI Media Group, a WPP company (NYSE: WPP) announces the completion of a successful pilot program and official launch of PROACT™ Rep, the first and only multi-channel media SaaS application allowing pharmaceutical sales reps to have full control over digital media to support the communication and support needs of their customers.

Face time with healthcare providers has been a growing challenge, and the “new normal” the pandemic created requires reps to prioritize digital tools that go beyond details and email. PROACT™ Rep empowers reps to directly influence media based on their unique insights and operate as territorial brand managers. Reps have first-hand intelligence of customer needs, behaviors, attitudes, and this tool allows them to utilize multi-channel media (third-party email, display/programmatic, custom programs, direct mail, audio, video and social media) – everywhere health care providers (HCPs) consume digital and physical media.

“Rep access continues to trend downward, and yet reps still offer great value to healthcare communication, so we wanted to give better tools to our clients’ sales reps to be able to maximize their strong relationships with HCPs. Our ability to match technology to client needs has been a hallmark of our vision in healthcare marketing,” said Dr. Susan Dorfman, President & CEO, CMI Media Group.

PROACT™ Rep is the first and only healthcare media orchestration and automation platform to get from data to insights to action immediately. It allows users to make real-time media investment decisions for their customers through an intuitive user interface that provides actionable intelligence and a host of media sequencing options. The rep doesn’t have to be an expert in all media channels, instead they only need to know their customer and the application automatically executes based on the user’s input and insight.

Here’s how it works: The rep is in the driver’s seat – communicating a media execution need to the home office through the easy to access application. The menu of multi-channel media sequence options is fully customizable based on the unique needs of each brand, limiting the cases accessible to individual reps and the amount of money allocated for media investment. The rep prompt data is automatically transmitted to CMI Media Group’s PROACT™ next-action engine. It is evaluated against other media programs within the omnichannel ecosystem and rules to determine the action taken, which are developed and approved at the home office/administrative level. Automated and turnkey media execution makes the application scalable with minimal ongoing management.

PROACT™ Rep addresses a major pain point for healthcare marketers and embraces digital opportunities like never before. It represents the convergence of two important trends in the healthcare marketing industry – digital first and omnichannel. It is truly the only application of its kind in existence and the beginning of a new paradigm in healthcare marketing.

CMI Media Group’s in-depth knowledge of consumers and prescribers, the media landscape, innovation, and customer-specific analytics allow us to create seamless multi-channel marketing campaigns for our clients, yielding superior customer experience and incremental positive ROI. CMI Media Group has brought many firsts to healthcare marketing as the leading healthcare-focused media buying and planning resource to the world’s game changers in pharma and life sciences. This novel approach to isolation of nucleic acids in a biological sample by enzymatic tailing to the 3’ end and attaching to a solid support offers several advantages over the current methods employed by laboratories worldwide.

There are two key advancements from this to-be-issued patent. The first is having the 3’ end of nucleic acid strands attached to a solid surface without size bias. This allows laboratories a new level of flexibility and options for molecular applications. The second key attribute is the ability to create high fidelity copies of the full length attached DNA and RNA. Researchers and clinicians can now analyze specific segments of the DNA without depleting the original source material. This provides the opportunity to re-interrogate additional genomic regions as needed or share copies of the input material they are analyzing with other labs.

The simplSEQ attached nucleic acids can be used directly in standard PCR and NGS based assays and are platform agnostic.

“We are developing a number of applications based upon this technology,” stated Brandon Young, inventor of the to-be-issued patent and Chief Science Officer of simplSEQ. “We have already filed an additional patent application based on our core technology and have several more in process. The more we work with this technology, the more applications and advantages emerge. We are now working with several outside labs to explore further innovations based on our patented technology.”

John Powers, CEO of simplSEQ, said that the company is in the process of manufacturing its first set of kits to begin commercialization. “We’ve taken a Six-Sigma approach to library preparation eliminating error prone steps to streamline QA/QC and turn-around time. We will continue to work with collaborating labs to fine tune our kits and get external data for validation,” he stated. “We anticipate having kits ready for commercial use in early 2022.”

“I am constantly having conversations with medical and technology colleagues about our process and how it can impact medicine,” said Dr. John Spinosa, Chief Medical Officer. “I am at the whiteboard on a daily basis thinking of new things that can be done and get more excited about the potential of this every day.”
