During the last decade, the field of genetics has evolved rapidly. In this segment, Advancements will explore how genetics are being used to bridge the gap in digital healthcare and personalized medicine. With a look at Nimbus Healthcare Corporation (Nimbus) viewers will learn how the patient-driven telehealth company uses technology to empower healthcare providers to deliver high-quality, affordable care when and where it is needed.

“At Nimbus, our goal is to inform, empower, and engage customers on how their treatment plans are tailored just for them based on their genetics and other relevant biomarkers. Development of high-throughput technologies, such as high-throughput sequencing and mass spectrometry, has enabled us to create proprietary technology to examine genomes and blood samples in unprecedented detail. By using this information, we can create custom compounded prescriptions to fit an individual’s needs,” said Jobby John, CEO, Nimbus Healthcare Corporation.

Audiences will hear how Nimbus’ tailored and personalized approach to health and wellness is helping to close the health gap. From free online evaluation to quick and easy access to information, spectators will see how Nimbus removes unnecessary, time-consuming questions and focuses solely on the symptoms and medical history that help physicians best evaluate treatment options.

“Nimbus is centered around the general health needs of men and personalized medicine in every form of treatment. It’s important to understand that medicine is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. We look forward to enlightening audiences about how Nimbus is addressing this,” said Richard Simon, producer for the Advancements series.

DynamiCare Health Awarded $2M Research Grant to Change Practices in Addiction Treatment

DynamiCare Digital Therapeutic

After 50 years of research, it’s about time that addiction treatment catches up with modern medicine and adopts objective behavioral health ‘vital signs’ to guide treatment planning

DynamiCare Health, a digital health company for substance use disorder, has been awarded a Fast-Track Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grant from the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). DynamiCare will receive up to a total of approximately $2 million over the course of three years if project milestones are met. The grant will support a large-scale randomized controlled trial to test the effectiveness of incentivizing addiction treatment providers to adopt underutilized evidence-based practices.

DynamiCare has developed a digital therapeutic that automates contingency management, an evidence-based intervention for enhancing motivation in early recovery from substance use disorders. Contingency management provides small, frequent rewards for staying sober and engaging in treatment. Despite over 100 randomized controlled trials showing effectiveness, contingency management is rarely used by addiction treatment providers. A recent JAMA paper found that “contingency management may generate significant societal cost savings and, more importantly, save numerous lives.” With the State of California making a major push for this new approach, and the Biden administration’s drug czar’s office listing the methodology as a Year 1 Drug Policy Priority, the time is right for this low-effort, high-rigor technology to promote dissemination and provider adoption.

One barrier to adoption has been the lack of a billing pathway for providers to be reimbursed for delivering this service. This research study will test financially incentivizing addiction treatment specialists to integrate DynamiCare’s contingency management program into their practice and collaborate on care. DynamiCare’s digital therapeutic has already demonstrated doubling-to-tripling of quit rates in 3 clinical trials. In this study, buprenorphine prescribers will be incentivized to review their patients’ behavioral performance data. Both measurement-based care and contingency management have been proven to boost outcomes. If this incentivized collaborative care study is successful, it could lead to new billing codes and widespread integration of contingency management into routine care.

“After 50 years of research, it’s about time that addiction treatment catches up with modern medicine and adopts objective behavioral health ‘vital signs’ to guide treatment planning,” said David R. Gastfriend M.D., DFASAM, Chief Medical Officer of DynamiCare Health, and Co-Principal Investigator on the study. “A simple referral and quick data review at each visit is all it takes. Now that technology makes treatment-by-data easy, we hope physicians and other buprenorphine prescribers will join us in studying how best to achieve practice change.”

DynamiCare Health is partnering with Western Michigan University and RTI International, a nonprofit research institute, to conduct the research. Anthony DeFulio PhD, Associate Professor of Psychology at Western Michigan University, will serve as Co-Principal Investigator on the study.

RTI International is an independent, nonprofit research institute dedicated to improving the human condition. Clients rely on us to answer questions that demand an objective and multidisciplinary approach — one that integrates expertise across the social and laboratory sciences, engineering and international development. We believe in the promise of science, and we are inspired every day to deliver on that promise for the good of people, communities and businesses around the world. The University offers 249 academic programs to more than 19,000 students pursuing degrees through the doctoral level. For more information, visit wmich.edu.

DynamiCare Health is a digital care program that uses accountability and motivation to help people overcome addiction. Results from 3 clinical studies have shown DynamiCare to increase quit rates for opioids, alcohol, and tobacco by 2-3x compared to typical treatment. DynamiCare enables people to complete virtual substance tests through its app anytime, anywhere, through connected breath and saliva tests verified by selfie video. Members earn monetary rewards for staying sober, attending treatment (verified by GPS), and completing self-guided in-app therapy modules. DynamiCare matches members with a certified Recovery Coach who helps them stay accountable to their goals.

DynamiCare’s innovative work has been recognized through numerous grants and awards, including 4 NIH grants and the $1M Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge. Their work has been featured in various news outlets, including the NY Times, WSJ, and CBS News. DynamiCare Health was founded in 2016 by Eric Gastfriend, Harvard MBA tech executive, and his father, David R. Gastfriend MD, an international expert in addiction medicine.

Hybrent Implements New Feature via Collaboration with Amazon Business

News Image

“Adding Amazon Business as a punchout in Hybrent will make it easier for organizations to purchase the supplies they need quickly…This makes Amazon Business one of the most valuable suppliers available within Hybrent.”

Hybrent, a supply chain management technology company in the non-acute healthcare industry, is excited to announce a new collaboration with Amazon Business. Combining the selection, convenience and value of shopping on Amazon with Hybrent’s purchasing software creates a seamless ordering process for healthcare facilities.

Added as a “punchout” in the Hybrent system, Amazon Business’ online store can be accessed from inside of Hybrent’s procurement platform. With one click, Hybrent customers can make purchases from Amazon Business without leaving the Hybrent ordering system, providing an enhanced customer experience for users.

“Adding Amazon Business as a punchout in Hybrent will make it easier for organizations to purchase the supplies they need quickly and with the appropriate controls in place,” said Micah McClelland, President of Hybrent. “This makes Amazon Business one of the most valuable suppliers available within Hybrent.”

Hybrent’s software provides customers with one portal that offers shopping, order automation, approvals, order tracking & confirmations, e-receive, invoice matching, contract management, AP and clinical integrations and extensive reporting tools. Including the Amazon Business punchout, customers can save time ordering the supplies they need to care for their patients.

“Historically, managing supply spend for non-acute facilities has been a lower priority to patient care,” said McClelland. “But healthcare organizations are looking for ways to control their overall costs and supplies are a great place to start. Additionally, staffing has become a huge issue for many healthcare facilities. Automating purchasing processes can alleviate a lot of the stress these organizations are facing right now. Amazon Business is now a key part of this solution for Hybrent customers.”

The Amazon Business punchout feature is easily implemented and currently available to all Hybrent users.

About Hybrent

Hybrent healthcare supply chain software transforms how non-acute healthcare organizations manage their spend. Our software automates manual processes by combining cutting edge procurement, inventory management, invoicing and reporting tools into one easy-to-use solution. Our customers include ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), physician clinics, post-acute organizations like long-term care and skilled nursing facilities, managed healthcare organizations, critical access hospitals and integrated delivery networks.

Department of Veterans Affairs Community Care Referral and Authorization Team Reaches Ten Millionth Referral Milestone

Cognosante, LLC today announced the Community Care Referral and Authorization System, which enables the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to expand community-based care to its Veteran beneficiaries, has processed its ten millionth referral.

In 2019, Cognosante and its partners implemented a web-based referral and authorization management portal, including Intersystems’ HealthShare Referral Manager, to standardize VA’s legacy community care referral processes. Over the past two years, the team introduced numerous enhancements, including streamlined workflows, systems integrations, and enhanced processes for referrals outside the CCRA system’s original scope. These enhancements helped VA move from manual, disjointed referral processes to a secure, streamlined solution, improving the timeliness of referrals, reducing administrative burden, and facilitating communication between facility community care staff and community providers.

The system now processes about 500,000 referrals per month. All 155 VA Medical Centers use the tool, reducing Veterans’ time to receive care in the community from over a month to under a week. In the last two years, the program facilitated access to ten million episodes of care for over three million Veterans.

“It is so gratifying to see this program grow and evolve,” says Philip Dietz, General Manager of Cognosante’s Military and Veteran Health Business Unit. “Each time CCRA generates a referral, a Veteran receives healthcare. Every day, we strive to make the process even better, streamlining and adding enhancements as the program matures. We know our work is making an impact, and we are incredibly proud of that.”

In addition to implementing and maintaining CCRA, Cognosante integrated a Clinical Viewer Tool which provides community providers access to the referred Veteran’s entire medical record for the duration of the referral. This empowers community providers with information they need to best care for Veterans. Cognosante also integrated an Emergency Authorization tool that streamlines and standardizes the process for authorizing emergency care, a need that increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

About Cognosante

Cognosante provides technology solutions and business process outsourcing to Federal, state, and local government health agencies as well as social services and defense agencies. The Mingle Mask®️™️ is a clear face-covering that’s ergonomically designed for easy breathing and comfort.

Whether you’re going to the gym, school, work or a restaurant, the Mingle Mask combo pack is a gamechanger. Consumers can breathe easier, show their smiles and makeup won’t rub off.

With mask wearing still a mandate in most states, Mingle Mask, the world’s first-to-market invisible face mask, today released a limited edition combo pack featuring two original Mingle Mask’s and two Mingle Mask 2’s. Perfect for helping mitigate Covid-19 transmission and the spread of respiratory pathogens during cold and flu season.

The original Mingle Mask is a transparent, high-quality shield that covers the face and nose. However, unlike a traditional plastic shield that hangs from the top of the forehead and extends below the chin, Mingle Mask fits like a traditional mask. Stretchable loops fit comfortably around the ears offering a secure fit without irritating the skin.

An innovative chin guard comfortably rests against the face, ensuring eyeglasses never fog up. The chin guard also helps keep material away from the face, making it easy to wear lipstick and makeup and keeping the face cooler.

Mingle Mask 2 offers the same durability and comfort as the original Mingle Mask but features a closer fit around the nose and mouth. Like the original Mingle Mask, Mingle Mask 2 provides wearers ample room to breathe and talk, uses an anti-fog clear premium plastic and is extremely comfortable to wear all day long.

“Whether you’re going to the gym, school, work or a restaurant, the Mingle Mask combo pack is a gamechanger in the face coverings industry,” said Rick Sutton, founder and CEO of Mingle Mask. “Consumers can have the best of all worlds. A breathable, lightweight open face shield for when masks are not required but the person still wants to stay vigilant and protected, and a more secure, well-fitted face mask for when masks are required but the wearer still wants airflow and to visibly show their smiles. Both products reduce health concerns and stops the spread of virus-packed droplets to other people.”

Mingle Mask and Mingle Mask 2 are both one-size-fits-all and fit any face shape. Both Mingle Mask face coverings keep materials away from the face, preventing clogged pores and makeup from rubbing off. Each mask is also designed to keep consumers cooler, especially on hot days or in non-airconditioned spaces. Each mask uses Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved materials and is reusable and recyclable. Masks are also easy to clean and sanitize in-between uses.

“Mingle Mask’s innovative design is ideal for consumers who want to attend large social gatherings or events,” said Sutton. “They also solve the problem for retail, foodservice, health care and hospitality businesses who are required to follow the mask mandate, want to protect their workforce but their position requires socializing with guests and providing mask-friendly customer service.”

The Mingle Mask and Mingle Mask 2 limited edition combo pack of four is available for an SRP of $11.99 at theminglemaskusa.com. Mingle Mask products are also available in packs of six, 10, 25 and 50 here and on Amazon. ACLM launched its Corporate Roundtable in 2016 and it now includes more than 40 active member organizations in the lifestyle medicine ecosystem.

Lifestyle medicine is defined as the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic intervention—including a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection—as a primary modality, delivered by clinicians trained and certified in this specialty, to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease.

Healium is a virtual and augmented reality company utilizing the benefits of immersive, engaging content to provide the user a self-guided mental wellness solution. Healium allows the user to learn to self-regulate their focus and calm by giving them the ability to see their EEG brain patterns in near real time. It’s a portable solution that uses virtual and augmented reality to immerse the person into beautiful, nature-based escapes in order to train their brain.

In four peer-reviewed journals, Healium’s combination of content, technology and science has been shown to significantly reduce anxiety and improve mood in as little as four minutes. Healium is being used in corporate, government, athletic, school, and mental health settings to equip people to excel, optimizing their brainwave patterns to focus more quickly, stress less, and perform better.

“In this pandemic with its associated mental health emergency, it is important to educate people about drugless, non-harmful coping mechanisms,” said Healium CEO Sarah Hill, who developed the product to ease her own anxiety as a former TV news reporter. “Healium is delighted to partner with ACLM to raise awareness about the importance of mental fitness and resilience.”

“Healium allows the user to self-manage pain, anxiety and stress, helping them change their behaviors to improve health outcomes,” said ACLM President Cate Collings, MD, MS, FACC, DipABLM. “This is a powerful tool for mental health and resilience, needed now more than ever. We welcome them to the Corporate Roundtable.”

More than a professional association, ACLM is a galvanized force for change. ACLM addresses the need for quality education and certification, supporting its members in their individual practices and in their collective mission to domestically and globally promote lifestyle medicine as the first treatment option, as opposed to a first option of treating symptoms and consequences with expensive, ever-increasing quantities of pills and procedures.

Pandemic’s Impact on Household Cleaning Habits

News Image

The COVID-19 pandemic has no doubt changed the way we live. The “new normal,” as so frequently referenced, did not pass over Americans’ cleaning habits, as a recent online survey conducted by The Libman Company, a leading brand of household and commercial cleaning tools, suggests that COVID-19 has driven more frequent household cleanings and a desire for a do-it-yourself approach, with nearly all respondents suggesting they would prefer to clean their homes themselves.

According to the survey, which encompassed males and females aged 25 to 54 in the U.S., COVID-19 is driving an increase in daily cleaning, with a 27% boost in this practice against pre-COVID cleaning practices. The most cleaned spaces? Countertops and door knobs/handles are being cleaned most often, followed by bathroom sinks, toilets, kitchen sinks and floors.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also shifted homeowners’ reliance on outside cleaning support –95% of survey respondents said they prefer to clean their homes themselves.

This do-it-yourself approach, coupled with the desire to properly clean and sanitize surfaces to help reduce the risk of germs and protect those in the household, has driven homeowners to arm themselves with new cleaning tools. According to the survey, homeowners have added liquid bleach and bleach-infused cleaning solutions, antibacterial aerosol sprays and disposable products such as wipes and toilet brush wands to their cleaning arsenal, joining tried-and-true cleaning solutions like brooms, dust pans, mops, buckets and non-bleach multi-purpose cleaners. Among respondents, multi-surface cleaners, liquid bleach and antibacterial aerosol sprays took the top three spots as the most important cleaning products to have on-hand.

The question is…does the COVID cleanse have sticking power? Survey says nearly 9 out of 10 people plan to continue their cleaning habits, regardless of the pandemic, with hand washing/use of sanitizer, wiping down surfaces and giving the home a thorough cleaning leading the charge for the practices that will be continued most often.

Study Shows 74% of US Hiring Managers Require Vax Status on Resumes

News Image

35% of hiring managers automatically reject resumes without a Covid-19 Vax Status

Hiring managers want to know that you have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, even when their companies do not require vaccination as a condition of employment. That’s the central takeaway from a major new survey of 1,379 hiring managers published by career-development experts ResumeOK.

Nearly three quarters of all hiring managers prefer to see a candidate’s vaccination status listed on their resume. This preference may have real consequences: the study found that 35% of hiring managers summarily reject resumes that do not list vaccination status, and that 86% are likelier to contact a candidate whose resume indicates that they are vaccinated.

Similarly, 86% of companies with more than 100 employees reported a preference for vaccinated employees, while 55% of smaller companies claimed that vaccination status does not matter. This may reflect a recent shift in priorities. While the federal vaccination mandate for larger companies faces legal challenges, hiring managers have tended to be conservative. Of the hiring managers who prioritize vaccination status, only 32% reported doing so before the federal mandate was announced; 68% reported that the prospect of a federal mandate influenced their decision.

“This is a difficult time for everyone, including hiring managers,” notes ResumeOK CEO Felix T. Web. “Our study shows that 73% of hiring managers find it more difficult to identify good candidates since the pandemic struck.

“Yet only 23% of all job seekers list their vaccination status. Compare that to roughly 60% of the entire US population, and it’s easy to see how job seekers can set themselves apart by taking one easy step. That’s the sort of insight ResumeOK has been delivering to its clients for more than ten years.”

Full results of the survey are available on ResumeOK’s website. Learn more about the survey and its methodology by visiting the site.
