ZEISS Announces National Science Classroom Outreach Program for Educators (SCOPEs) Grant for K-12 Science Teachers

ZEISS announces its national Science Classroom Outreach Program for Educators (SCOPEs) Grant, established to help support teachers facing the new challenge of educating students through remote learning. The SCOPEs Grant is offered for all K-12 science teachers needing a solution to help their students continue their education in a socially distant environment. Available to any K-12 school in the United States and Puerto Rico offering microscopy science curricula, the program will help teachers offer live demonstrations to supplement traditional lectures while maintaining social distance protocols in the classroom. The SCOPEs grant program covers a complete ZEISS classroom microscope package with an optical microscope, digital camera, and software. Recipients can choose from two microscope models, ZEISS Primo Star or ZEISS Stemi 305. A winner will be selected each month from among all applications received. Those not awarded a grant will be automatically re-entered for consideration in subsequent months.

Designed with long-term use and extreme durability in mind, the ZEISS Primo Star offered as part of the grant features an integrated HD streaming camera in conjunction with the iPad App Labscope. This system has the capabilities to be expanded to a full digital classroom of network-connected microscopes. The shared interface between the teacher and the student allows for immediate confirmation that the specimen is viewed correctly. The ZEISS Primo Star provides students with a digital native way to examine specimens under a microscope.

SCOPEs grant winners can also opt for the ZEISS Stemi 305 compact Greenough stereo microscope with 5:1 zoom. With the ZEISS Stemi 305, three-dimensional samples can be observed with no preparation required. The easy-to-use microscope offers full integration with long-living LED illumination for reflected and transmitted light and documentation.

“The need for creative lesson planning is particularly acute in science classrooms because hands-on laboratories or live demonstrations that supplement traditional lectures is such an important aspect of science learning,” said Vincent Cavaliere, Product Marketing Manager for Educational Microscopy. “Integrating ZEISS network-compatible microscopes with imaging systems lets teachers easily create digital classrooms or digital labs and share images with the touch of a finger. The equipment also enables teachers to record high resolution images and videos and share images, reports, and videos.”
