Wendy Vogel, MSN, FNP, AOCNP®, Joins Harborside as Executive Director of APSHO


Harborside, a market-leading communications company with a focus in oncology, has welcomed Wendy Vogel, MSN, FNP, AOCNP®, as Director of Association Management. Ms. Vogel, a board-certified oncology nurse practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience, will serve as the Executive Director for the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO).

“Wendy has been involved with APSHO since its inception, and she is passionate about the society’s mission to improve cancer care while furthering the role of the advanced practitioner,” said Sandra Leatherman Towell, CMP, Vice President and Director of Conference & Society Management at Harborside. “We are thrilled that she has joined Harborside to serve in this capacity. Wendy is a leader who understands the importance of the advanced practitioner’s role in oncology care, and she’s the right person to guide the society.”

As Executive Director, Ms. Vogel will serve as the lead administrator for APSHO, executing the vision of the Board of Directors and overseeing the operational needs of the organization. She will also contribute her clinical expertise to Harborside’s award-winning content across its publishing portfolio.

In her most recent role, Ms. Vogel worked as an oncology nurse practitioner at Ballad Health Cancer Care–Kingsport in Kingsport, Tennessee. She has also served on the Wellmont Medical Associates Board of Directors, as well as chaired several committees, including the Wellmont Medical Associates Advanced Practitioner Committee. Ms. Vogel was also a member of the Oncology Pharmacy and Therapeutics subcommittee with Ballad Health Systems.

Before her time at Ballad, she worked as an oncology nurse practitioner, a sub-investigator, and a research coordinator at Blue Ridge Medical Specialists, PC, in Bristol, Tennessee.

Ms. Vogel is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology (JADPRO) and is extensively involved in JADPRO’s annual conference, JADPRO Live. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2012 Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Mary Nowotny Excellence in Cancer Nursing Education Award, and the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award for her work co-editing the Advanced Oncology Nursing Certification Review and Resource Manual: Instructor’s Resource. Ms. Vogel has published extensively, has given numerous lectures, and has served on several boards and advisory committees.

Ms. Vogel received her Bachelor of Science Nursing from Tennessee Technological University and Master of Science, Nursing from East Tennessee State University.
