Venture Construction Group of Florida Tees Up to Raise Funds for ALS Research

As the ALS Florida Association Chapter Premier Statewide Sponsor, Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) supported the ALS Ring of Honor Golf Classic in St. Augustine on May 10. The tournament was held from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at King & Bear at World Golf Village. Attendees included community and business leaders from northeast Florida. The day included food and refreshments starting with breakfast and a Bloody Mary bar. Refreshments were served throughout the course including beer brats and hot dogs, brisket sliders, pretzel bites, margaritas, vodka infused lemonade stands, and complimentary waters, soft drinks and Gatorades.

The Ring of Honor ALS Golf Classic was established to remember those lost to ALS and to honor those still fighting the disease. In addition to raising funds, golfers had the opportunity to challenge a Golf Pro on long drives and sink a winning putt in the putting contest. Registration fees were $275 per golfer; $1,000 for a foursome.

“This mission would not be possible without friends and supporters like Venture Construction Group of Florida and our local businesses who sponsor, participate, and help spread the word to increase awareness,” said Cal Brooks, vice president of development, ALS Association Florida chapter.

According to the ALS Association, new research has brought a wealth of new scientific understanding regarding the physiology of this disease. Currently, there are four drugs approved by the U.S. FDA to treat ALS. There are ongoing studies throughout the globe to develop more treatments and a cure for ALS. Scientists have made significant progress in understanding the disease and helping those with ALS experience a better quality of life.

A fierce advocate for ALS research and finding a cure, VCGFL sponsored the Central Florida Walk to Defeat ALS in Orlando on March 20; the Broward Walk to Defeat ALS in Davie on April 10; the Jacksonville Walk to Defeat ALS on April 17; the Sarasota Walk to Defeat ALS on April 24; the Greater Tampa Bay Walk to Defeat ALS on May 1; the ALS Ring of Honor Golf Classic in St. Augustine on May 10; the Southwest Walk to Defeat ALS on May 15; the Tampa Bay CEO Soak on May 21; the Orlando CEO Soak on June 24; the South Florida CEO Soak in Dania Beach on August 26.
