Before COVID-19, California had a projected need of approximately 500,000 allied healthcare workers by 2024. The pandemic has only created a greater need throughout the state. To help address this critical demand, Unitek Learning has partnered with Futuro Health in their joint effort to produce more credentialed healthcare workers for California.
“The state of the world has demonstrated an increased demand for a strong workforce,” said Karilyn Van Oosten, VP of Strategic Business Development at Unitek Learning. “Our partnership with Futuro Health will allow Unitek Learning to become part of the solution. We want to help create a career-ready workforce that is needed in California’s healthcare industry.”
In January of 2020, Kaiser Permanente and Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) partnered to establish Futuro Health. They pledged $130 million to grow the largest network for credentialed allied healthcare workers.
By joining this partnership, Unitek Learning will provide Medical Assistant training to individuals sponsored by Futuro Health. “Futuro Health continues to strengthen our learning ecosystem by gathering the nation’s most responsive academic institutions in collaboration,” explains Debbie Yaddow, Senior Director of Pathway Development at Futuro Health. “Together, our partner organizations are committed to shaping a plentiful, quality-driven, and innovative workforce that meets the needs of California.”
“We’re honored to join forces with Futuro Health and help transform California,” said Janis Paulson, Chief Executive Officer at Unitek Learning. “Like Futuro Health, we believe that investing in education and skills training will result in better-paying jobs for workers, better care for patients, and better workers for employers to hire.
