Together We Own It Feeds Hundreds amid the pandemic

We work with some of the most vulnerable families in our community, and at times like this the needs are even greater than an average day. There are so many in our community that barely have enough food and supplies on good days, much less in times of crisis.

Together We Own It, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission it is to work with children and families to break the cycle of poverty, trauma and mental illness and move forward by providing a stable and supportive environment, full of opportunity. Together We Own It provides relationship building services including mentoring and opportunities for social engagement. As well, the organization is focused on filling a gap when it comes to things necessary to build confidence like proper fitting/ sized clothing items, toiletries, food and other necessary items from its Good Stuff Program.

Amid the national crisis and pandemic Together We Own It has rallied volunteers to donate financially, in-kind services and supplies/food. It has served over 300 Carroll County residents since schools have been closed, filling in the gap.

Together We Own It, a local nonprofit founded in 2015 by Katelyn Kirby, envisions engaged communities where children have the power to create opportunities for themselves to reach their full potential. The organization strives to foster a sense of connection between youth and their community through connecting people and resources, mentoring, educational enrichment, and recreational engagement.

All of the donations collected by Together We Own It are distributed to families in need by Together We Own Its staff, Rise Up youth leaders and volunteer teams.

Katie Kirby, Executive Director shared “We work with some of the most vulnerable families in our community, and at times like this the needs are even greater than an average day. There are so many in our community that barely have enough food and supplies on good days, much less in times of crisis. Our staff and volunteers have stepped up, as they always do. We’ve been thrilled to be able to ensure people in our community are not going without.”

Kirby further stated, “We couldn’t do all of the things we want to do to make a real difference in the lives of local children without our volunteers, staff and community. We are a predominantly volunteer run organization; from our mentors to our program staff, everyone is here because they want to demonstrate to these kids and families that there are people who care about their well-being. We’ve been able to go into neighborhoods over the last few days to serve our neighbors, meeting them where they are, and are grateful to do so.”
