Three Puppies Rescued by American Service Members Need Help Getting to the USA

National not-for-profit Paws of War (http://www.pawsofwar.org) needs members of communities to assist with supporting a special rescue assignment. This mission is to bring home three puppies from the Middle East to the Mid-West that were rescued by three heroes: SGT. Lance, SPC. Lee and SPC. Gus.

These brave heroes serving our country overseas in the Army found four puppies that were left all alone, malnourished and very weak in a dangerous, unhealthy environment. Unfortunately, the puppies’ mother seemed too have passed away, leaving no one to care for them. As the soldiers eagerly took on the role of caregivers to the puppies, there was an immediate bond among them. However, instincts told them these puppies showed signs of something medically wrong and that that they needed help immediately.

At the location they are serving, it is very isolated without any veterinary resources available for them to reach out to on the puppies’ behalf. This is what led the soldiers to contact the Paws of War organization for assistance, guidance and support through their War Torn Pups & Cats program. This program serves active military by getting dogs and cats rescued by soldiers serving overseas to safety into the United States. This is done so these animals are not left behind in these very difficult areas damaged by war without many options of survival or positive outlooks.

The Paws of War along with its overseas partners were able to get the puppies into a veterinary clinic in that country that included three months of recovery and care. Unfortunately, the puppies had some underlying conditions and one of the puppies did not survive. Although a huge loss and disappointment to everyone involved in this mission, the focus now is to get the three puppies who have survived thus far, Athena, Flower and Socks, safely to the United States.

“Once here at home, the puppies will be reunited with SGT. Lance, SPC. Lee and SPC. Gus, where they will serve as their companion dogs in their forever homes. We cannot as an organization and community let these soldiers who have sacrificed so much and dedicated their lives to our country be forced to leave these precious puppies behind after all that has been overcome,” says Derek Cartwright, a disabled veteran, who is the stateside logistics coordinator at Paws of War. “The trauma of this would be unbearable to our heroes and it is our job to ensure this mission does not end in defeat.”

He continued, “When American heroes are on a mission, there is no stopping them to accomplish the goal at hand. We ask you, our community to join us with your assistance and support so we do not let down our heroes and their puppies; Athena, Flower and Socks whom have come so far in this dangerous journey.”

Saving these pups lives for our soldiers has come at a significant expense, and with COVID restrictions flight options are severely limited. This is why Paws of War is seeking the financial support of the community to make this rescue happen for these heroes and the “companions” who have been left behind.
