Swinomish Casino & Lodge Hosts Virtual Blood Drive

This May, Swinomish Casino & Lodge is partnering with Bloodworks Northwest for a virtual blood drive.

Bloodworks Northwest is an independent, non-profit organization that provides blood to more than 90 hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Due to blood shortages throughout the region, they are encouraging donors to book appointments in May.

The virtual blood drive allows donors to give when and where is most convenient for them. To participate, community members can book an appointment at a Bloodworks Pop-Up or Donor Center. On the day of donation, members should let the staff know that they are giving in support of the Swinomish Virtual Drive and give the code “SWIN” when checking in.

“Our teams at Swinomish Casino & Lodge are excited to join forces with Bloodworks Northwest to assist in the effort to save lives with blood donations,” Director of Slot Operations Stephany Tuttle said. “The enthusiasm for the opportunity to be involved in such an important program has been inspiring.”

According to the Bloodworks Northwest website, one in three people require a lifesaving blood transfusion during their lifetime. In the wake of COVID-19, the demand for blood is high, so blood donations are more vital than ever. Each donation could save up to three lives, so every drop of blood matters.

All Bloodworks donation sites require donors to wear masks. Appointments are limited and required to ensure social distancing. There is no wait to donate after receiving the Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson/Janssen, Novavax, or AstraZeneca COVID vaccine.

The blood drive runs May 1 through May 31. People that are at least 16 years of age can set up their appointment by visiting bloodworksnw.org/donate or calling 1-800-398-7888.
