Stephen L. Demers has been named Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, one of six acute-care facilities of Memorial Healthcare System, a public, nonprofit hospital system nationally recognized for providing outstanding patient and family-centered care. Prior to starting at Memorial in early January 2022, Demers served as chief operating officer and vice president of operations and chief of ambulatory networks at the University of Miami Health System from 2019 to 2021.
In his new role leading the 301-bed hospital located in Pembroke Pines, Demers will also oversee the hospital’s programs and service lines, including Memorial’s Primary Stroke Center, Bariatric Surgical Center, Orthopedic services, Endocrinology services, free-standing 24/7 Emergency Care Center, and the Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

From 2009 to 2019, Demers served in a number of senior executive positions at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. His experience also includes tenures at the University of Pennsylvania Health Care System in Philadelphia, the Surgical Safety Institute, the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, and Brigham & Women’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He is a veteran of the US Navy Medical Service Corps, stationed at the Long Beach California and Newport Rhode Island Naval hospitals in addition to serving as director of administration of the Naval Branch Medical Clinic in South Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Demers earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northeastern University in Boston. He is also an associate of the American College of Healthcare Executives, past president of the Association of Academic Surgical Administrators, and a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
