SkysTheLimit.org (“Sky’s the Limit”), the digital community transforming the playing field for entrepreneurial success, supports Black non-profit entrepreneurs who work on behalf of causes they are passionate about – and that exist to help others. This month, the organization celebrates its latest grant-awarded entrepreneur, Asia Speights.
Ms. Speights’ story is both inspiring and moving. She used her personal experience of losing six-week-old twins and then giving birth to another set of twins to start a business that addresses the needs of the most vulnerable.
Watching her premature twins struggle for nutrition in the NICU was frustrating and heartbreaking for Ms. Speights and her husband. With the help of Sky’s the Limit mentors and other business resources offered by the organization, she developed an innovative plant-based, organic infant formula that is inclusive of premature and underweight babies. Her Sky’s the Limit mentors successfully guided her through wiring a business plan, opening a bank account, and designing a website.
In 2021, Ms. Speights received Sky’s the Limit CVC Young Innovator Award in the amount of $20,000, was selected by the STL community to win the $2,500. Friends & Family grant in 2020 and has continued her success as the winner of the organization’s $2,500 Bionic Award. This grant has propelled her business, Bunnee, forward substantially and gives her space to focus on product development and marketing efforts. She notes, “It’s terrifying and exhilarating starting a business, but having a village is such a necessary component and Sky’s the Limit is that for me – it’s my village! Being able to have access to mentors, professionals, and other entrepreneurs in the same place as you, that you wouldn’t otherwise have, especially during COVID-19 when the world is virtual, is so impactful and super helpful.”
As an organization centered around lifting up and supporting entrepreneurs, Sky’s the Limit recognizes the many talents and gifts that Black entrepreneurs bring to the table and welcomes everyone to join their free platform to connect with a community of like-minded entrepreneurs and receive mentorship, coaching and links to business resources and funding.
