Sigma is honored to receive four American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards for 2019.

The American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards recognize some of the best books in nursing publishing, and Sigma is pleased to have two books recognized in multiple categories for 2019.

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) was awarded four 2019 American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Awards. These awards are regarded as one of the most important and prestigious designations of excellence in nursing book publishing. Now in its 50th year, the AJN Book of the Year competition has recognized Sigma for the last 11 consecutive years.

The following Sigma books were recognized by AJN:

The Influence of Psychological Trauma in Nursing was awarded first place in the Nursing Education/Continuing Education/Professional Development category and first place in the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing category. Authored by Karen J. Foli and John R. Thompson.

The Influence of Psychological Trauma in Nursing helps nurses gain awareness and knowledge about trauma and recovery so they can heal and bring holistic healing to others. The authors provide a primer on psychological trauma, helping readers identify and understand the common forms of trauma in society. Filled with examples, tools, assessments, and learning objectives, this book helps nurses move forward as trauma-informed caregivers.

Mastering Precepting: A Nurse’s Handbook for Success, Second Edition, was awarded first place in the Medical-Surgical Nursing category and third place in the Education/Continuing Education/Professional Development category. Authored by Beth Ulrich.

The second edition of this book teaches preceptors both the science and art of precepting and empowers them to seek the support they need to be effective. For managers, it emphasizes the importance of providing nurse preceptors with positive and supportive experiences. For educators, it provides the information and knowledge required to develop and improve preceptor programs.

“The American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards recognize some of the best books in nursing publishing, and Sigma is pleased to have two books recognized in multiple categories for 2019,” said Sigma Publisher Dustin Sullivan. “This year’s awards raise the total for Sigma Publishing to 43 AJN Book of the Year Awards. I am proud of our authors and editorial team for maintaining such high publishing standards year after year, which in the end, benefits Sigma members and nurses everywhere.”

These 2019 AJN recipients are available for purchase in the Sigma Marketplace and bookstores throughout the world.
