Reinvestment Fund has elected Saul A. Behar as the new Chair of its Board of Directors. In this role, he will champion the efforts of the Board, ensuring that the organization remains accountable in its mission to build strong, healthy, and more equitable communities.
“I am honored to help lead and shape Reinvestment Fund’s work by contributing my expertise in this new role,” said Mr. Behar. “I am grateful to outgoing chair Mark Zandi for his outstanding leadership and service. I look forward to continuing to work with the Board and Reinvestment Fund’s highly skilled professional staff.”
Mr. Behar has served on Reinvestment Fund’s Board of Directors since 2016. In this capacity, he has been a valuable advisor as Reinvestment Fund remained focused on delivering their mission in the face of a pandemic, racial reckoning, and divisive politics. Prior to his appointment as Chair, he served on the Loan Committee, chaired the Audit Committee, and most recently served as Vice Chair of the Board.
“We are pleased to have Saul serve in this leadership role on our Board,” said Don Hinkle-Brown, President and CEO of Reinvestment Fund. “He brings extensive knowledge of business operations at all stages. We are particularly excited about his commitment to inclusive economic growth and to supporting entrepreneurs as they scale their businesses, create jobs, and improve lives.”
Mr. Behar serves as Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and General Counsel at the University City Science Center in Philadelphia, which advances healthcare innovation from idea to the marketplace through startup support services and building inclusive STEM pathways for local youth and adults. He is a graduate of Cornell University and The University of Chicago Law School.
In addition to Mr. Behar’s appointment, the Reinvestment Fund’s Board welcomes three additional board members: Cynthia F. Figueroa, Wendell Pritchett, and Melissa Weiler Gerber. Ms. Figueroa is the President and CEO of JEVS Human Services, a not-for-profit, nonsectarian social service agency based in Philadelphia. Dr. Pritchett is the James S. Riepe Presidential Professor of Law and Education at the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Weiler Gerber serves as the President & CEO of AccessMatters, a nonprofit, public health organization located in Center City Philadelphia.
“Our candidate search was focused on boosting our local Philadelphia regional representation,” said Mr. Hinkle-Brown. “Cynthia, Wendell, and Melissa bring diverse expertise that can help to expand our areas of strength. We are pleased to have the wisdom from their backgrounds and varied experiences to help shape our work in the coming years.”
