Relief Bed International has been very busy in recent months by donating more than 1,000 Relief Beds in support of disaster relief projects globally. 500 of the Relief Beds were air shipped to Turkey and Syria to support those displaced by the devasting earthquakes and 500 more Relief Beds were donated to World Vision to support its US Disaster Response program. The Current Situation in Turkey and Syria;
- More than 55,190 people have died and 129,490 have been injured.
- Over 13,700 aftershocks have been recorded.
- 17.9 Million people have been directly affected and 10.1 million people need humanitarian assistance.
*Credit World Vision for above information. Since Relief Bed Internationals start in 2015 they have distributed 1,000’s of beds internationally and in the United States to support disaster relief efforts and homelessness. Relief Bed had two main goals from the beginning, the first was to curate a strategically built bed that was durable, waterproof, cleanable, comfortable and condensable for easy shipment, and that it had the ability to insulate the sleeper from the ground. With this first goal achieved early on, Relief Bed did recently improve upon their original design with its new Tri-Fold AIR by Relief Bed. The new design is slightly larger and has a 3 way valve to help for quick and easy inflation and deflation. Second, Relief Bed International has known from the beginning it would have to have beds on hand to be able to respond immediately to disaster relief efforts as its critical for humanitarian aid to arrive immediately following a disaster.
“Having beds arrive quickly following a natural disaster is a must as this is when the people are the most vulnerable, Stated Scott Smalling Relief Bed International Founder. Many people take sleep for granted, but sleep is the #3 biological need to help sustain life, bested only by food and water,” continued Smalling.
Relief Bed International has been able keep up with most of the requests for beds in recent years, but in the last 12 months the need has significantly outpaced their resources to support. The goal is to have inventory on hand, and forward stocked inventory in key partners warehouses. This is still a work in process as the organization requires increased funding and support to achieve this goal. Relief Bed International’s humanitarian partnerships are also critical to its success, as these partners ensure having people on the ground in the affected areas to not only properly and safely secure the Relief Beds, but also to ensure they are distributed to the intended recipients. For the Turkey and Syria project, Relief Bed International is thrilled to be working, again, with CONVOY OF HOPE. Convoy of Hope was able to air ship the beds with other life-saving supplies to Turkey so they could be put into service immediately. In the US, Relief Bed International is excited to continue its work with WORLD VISION, who has been a trusted partner since RBI’s inception 8 years ago.
Relief Bed International is seeking more private and corporate partners to help them be able to keep pace with the growing global need.
