This new test from Abbott is simply awesome. A positive result delivered directly to the EHR in just 5 minutes, at the point of care. That speed is a game changer.

Relaymed announced today the launch of their interface for the new molecular point-of-care test from Abbott for the detection of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) that will see test results saved instantly and accurately into the electronic health record (EHR).
Relaymed middleware connects point-of-care testing devices to the EHR, automatically marrying results to orders in real-time, eliminating manual entry and errors.
The new test will run on the Abbott ID NOW platform, one of the most popular devices already in use by Relaymed customers across the US today. Positive results will be delivered in as little as five minutes, whereupon Relaymed will automatically save the result into the EHR. Negative results are delivered within 13 minutes.
This will bring rapid COVID-19 testing to the front lines, into physician offices and urgent care centers, where it is needed. These are the healthcare settings where people show up for care. An accurate, rapid test delivered close to the patient, outside of hospitals, will be transformative to help alleviate the pressure on the healthcare system.
“We’ve worked with Abbott over the weekend to interface with their new COVID-19 test on their ID NOW platform. The speed and agility is testament to both our partnership and the cloud platform we deploy on. This is how we at Relaymed can play our part — our very small part — to help. This new test from Abbott is simply awesome. A positive result delivered directly to the EHR in just 5 minutes, at the point of care. That speed is a game changer,” said Neil Farish, CEO at Relaymed.
Automate COVID-19 testing
Speed, accuracy and reporting of test results are critical in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of healthcare workers.
COVID-19 is a test result that must be recorded correctly in the patient chart, with no human transcription error sneaking in. Not just for the sake of the individual patient, but also their family, healthcare workers and the wider community. Furthermore, this is a test result that must be made as widely available as fast as possible, with no delay in getting to the electronic patient record, to enable effective population health management.
Automatically and instantly placing test results to the patient chart is the part Relaymed will play to help overcome this COVID-19 challenge.
