SafetySpect, Inc. today announced that its technology delivering a new level of confirmed clean and providing a global standard of safety and sanitation has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The science is currently being verified by the University of North Dakota’s (UND) College of Engineering and Mines and School of Medicine & Health Sciences, and is also being validated for regulatory compliance.
This proprietary technology that provides a ‘certified clean’ was initially conceived and prototyped by scientists with the US Army and the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service to keep armed forces safe from contaminants in hostile conditions. Since 2018, SafetySpect has worked to improve upon and deepen this technology to suit commercial needs and bring a new system to detect, disinfect and document viral/bacterial infectious agents, such as the novel coronavirus, thus creating a safer environment.
Current cleaning techniques are problematic as there is no verifiable tools to audit and validate surface cleanliness after routine cleaning except for time consuming swab-based analysis. SafetySpect’s patented system utilizes UV light to instantly detect contaminants, and UV LEDs to deactivate and disinfect harmful pathogens on surfaces in seconds. It can also decontaminate areas, such as sensitive airplane control panels, that cannot be disinfected using chemical cleaners. SafetySpect’s exclusive technology not only detects and neutralizes danger; it also documents that contaminants are deactivated by recording time, location, and date stamped in a digital photographic record.

SafetySpect‘s system, to be unveiled in Q1 2021, will be made in the United States and includes a portable handheld scanner with specialized illumination technology and smart display connected to a cloud-based reporting and workflow process. The technology easily integrates with industry standard sanitation operating procedures (SSOPs).
