Protecting Lives and Redefining Hygiene and Sanitation

SafetySpect

“SafetySpect’s technology is helping redefine the way health and sanitation can be scientifically measured and managed,” said John Mihelich, Vice President for Research & Economic Development at University of North Dakota.

SafetySpect, Inc. today announced that its technology delivering a new level of confirmed clean and providing a global standard of safety and sanitation has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The science is currently being verified by the University of North Dakota’s (UND) College of Engineering and Mines and School of Medicine & Health Sciences, and is also being validated for regulatory compliance.

This proprietary technology that provides a ‘certified clean’ was initially conceived and prototyped by scientists with the US Army and the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service to keep armed forces safe from contaminants in hostile conditions. Since 2018, SafetySpect has worked to improve upon and deepen this technology to suit commercial needs and bring a new system to detect, disinfect and document viral/bacterial infectious agents, such as the novel coronavirus, thus creating a safer environment.

Current cleaning techniques are problematic as there is no verifiable tools to audit and validate surface cleanliness after routine cleaning except for time consuming swab-based analysis. SafetySpect’s patented system utilizes UV light to instantly detect contaminants, and UV LEDs to deactivate and disinfect harmful pathogens on surfaces in seconds. It can also decontaminate areas, such as sensitive airplane control panels, that cannot be disinfected using chemical cleaners. SafetySpect’s exclusive technology not only detects and neutralizes danger; it also documents that contaminants are deactivated by recording time, location, and date stamped in a digital photographic record.

“We are thrilled that UND, the North Dakota Bioscience Association, and our manufacturer ComDel Innovation in Wahpeton, North Dakota have provided us with support and resources as we redefine a new global level of sanitation and safety for many industries,” said Kenneth Barton, CEO of SafetySpect. “There are numerous industry applications for this technology that protects lives, provides assurance, and builds trust.”

“SafetySpect’s technology is helping redefine the way health and sanitation can be scientifically measured and managed,” said John Mihelich, Vice President for Research & Economic Development at UND. “What it brings in terms of the ability to detect, neutralize, verify and document in the decontamination process is of vital concern given the current pandemic and beyond. UND is proud to be a research partner and support SafetySpect’s work.”

SafetySpect‘s system, to be unveiled in Q1 2021, will be made in the United States and includes a portable handheld scanner with specialized illumination technology and smart display connected to a cloud-based reporting and workflow process. The technology easily integrates with industry standard sanitation operating procedures (SSOPs). SafetySpect’s patented pioneering products will provide a practical, economically viable, solution to safeguard an anxious world.

About SafetySpect:

With offices in Southern California and North Dakota, SafetySpect, Inc. was founded to develop and commercialize advanced optical sensing technology for surface hygiene and food quality testing. This technology began with over 14 years of development in the USDA-ARS and the U.S. Army. Its original purpose was to solve food safety problems and safeguard American soldiers outside the U.S. from hostile food suppliers. Since 2018, the company has enhanced the original technology by pioneering hardware enhancements and a customized software platform, including AI risk management, to commercialize it for applications far beyond food safety. This technology is poised to set new global standards and help stop contamination in its tracks. http://www.safetyspect.com.
