Principal IRB announces its accreditation by The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP) at the September meeting of its council on accreditation.
“We are very proud to receive accreditation. Principal IRB is dedicated to the continuous improvement of our Human Research Protection Plan. Accreditation demonstrates commitment to the highest standards,” said Freddie Hughes, Managing Partner.
Principal IRB (PIRB) is an Independent Review Board specializing in the review of Phase I-IV research studies. It is female and minority owned. Integrity, commitment, innovation and speed are the essentials for review of studies at PIRB. A single point of contact is provided from study start up to study closure.
“We saw a need as our previous clients repeatedly provided feedback that they missed our personal touch, combined with our wisdom of experience and prompt service, that only a smaller IRB can provide,” said Debra Reed, Managing Partner.
Striving to fill that gap in the IRB market after the consolidation of most of the smaller IRBs, Principal IRB was established in 2017. Hughes and Reed have worked together since 2005 in the IRB industry.
A nonprofit organization, AAHRPP provides accreditation for organizations that conduct or review human research and can demonstrate that their protections exceed standards for safeguards required by the U.S. government. AAHRPP uses a volunteer, peer-driven, educational model to ensure that HRPPs meet rigorous standards for quality and protection.
AAHRPP accreditation is widely regarded as the gold standard for research protection. The “gold seal” of accreditation serves as a symbol of assurance to research participants, sponsors, investigators, government regulators, and the general public that the accredited organization adheres to AAHRPP’s guidelines of excellence regarding human research protection.
