In order to support frontline mental health professionals during this time of social distancing, PracticeWise, a company that partners with organizations and agencies to help kids improve their mental health, is now offering one of its most popular programs, Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP) Direct Services Training, online.

The MAP Direct Services Training program teaches mental health professionals how to use the MAP system to improve the quality, efficiency, and outcomes of youth mental health services. MAP gives administrators and providers access to current scientific information, user-friendly monitoring tools, and clinical ‘how to’ guides for practices commonly found in evidence-based care.

The first online MAP Direct Services Training session was launched late summer and was the first socially-distant adaption of its kind from PracticeWise. It was the result of continued work from the training team who succeeded at the challenge of taking a 40-hour in-person clinical training curriculum and delivering it online in an engaging and successful manner.

“From its inception, PracticeWise has brought innovative tools and solutions to the mental and behavioral health community that help best meet the evolving needs of children and adolescents,” explained Teri Bourdeau, Ph.D., ABPP, PracticeWise Vice President of Training and Development. “There was little doubt that social distancing mandates caused by COVID-19 would make quickly adapting our standard live training to a high-quality online experience necessary if we wanted providers to get what they needed to best support these youth.”

Cheri Shapiro, Ph.D., Research Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Families in Society at the College of Social Work, University of South Carolina, explained how MAP has helped enhance the quality of care in South Carolina’s mental health system.

“In South Carolina, the MAP/MATCH training provided by PracticeWise is integral to our efforts toward enhancing provider skills and services within our mental health system. We have been working with PracticeWise since 2017 toward this goal. At present, we are using MAP as one part of a project designed to broadly encourage trauma-responsive supports for elementary school age children and their families in schools, and to enhance delivery of high-quality school mental health services for children and families who may need that level of intervention.”
