Platinum Research Network (PRN) is a multi-specialty site network with specialized therapeutic support for vaccines, women’s health, and pediatric research. Maternal vaccines (a.k.a., vaccines for expectant mothers) is an exciting development in vaccine research. PRN excels in supporting these maternal immunization projects with diverse urban, suburban, and rural populations.

“It’s long overdue that we are studying vaccines like this in pregnant mothers,” said Jason Roth, VP at PRN.

Most of the work done in maternal immunization has recently been conducted to protect potential newborns from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). More than 25 PRN investigators have enrolled over 1,700 pregnant participants into clinical trials in the last 5 years. PRN expects to enroll at least 1,000 more participants during the 2020-2021 RSV season.

John Paul Roberts, MD, Principal Investigator at Ventavia Research Group, leads RSV vaccine trials at his research site in the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex. “Our expectant mothers and our colleagues have sought more data regarding the safety and effectiveness of maternal immunization,” said Dr. Roberts “It’s a great time in medical history, and we’re at the forefront of this research.”

Keith Vrbicky, MD, has delivered more than 12,000 babies and conducts clinical trials at Meridian Clinical Research’s site in Norfolk, NE. Patients often drive two or more hours to participate in clinical trials and visit his practice as patients. “It’s a natural progression to take on maternal vaccine trials,” said Dr. Vrbicky. “We have the experience to lead the way, and as a woman-owned and -led company, Meridian has made women’s health research a special focus.”

“Given our experience in conducting maternal immunization trials, the pharmaceutical industry looked to us to expand our capabilities and enroll expectant mothers for their research projects,” said Roth. “We’re prepared to accommodate the industry’s need.”
