People USA is adding a Certified Peer Specialist to Columbia County’s mental health clinic located at 325 Columbia St Hudson, NY 12534. Currently, these clinics have social workers, nurses, and psychiatrists that help children and adults with their mental health challenges. Columbia County has added another tool to its behavioral health toolkit – a Peer.
This Certified Peer Specialist will be provided by People USA and embedded in Columbia County’s mental health clinic. The Peer will add to the existing staff to instill hope, support wellness, and demonstrate that recovery is real and does happen. The Peer will utilize trauma-informed techniques to help participants set goals, engage in social events, and connect with community resources. The Peer will also provide support for participants to divert hospitalization after discharge. Ultimately, the Peer will share personal experiences that encourage mental wellness and recovery.
“The Columbia County Department of Human Services is very excited to partner with People USA in bringing peer services to its community mental health center. Seeking help can be a challenging experience, and having a person with lived experience to assist in the process has proven beneficial when it comes to engagement with behavioral health services,’ Daniel S. Almasi, LCSW-R, Director of Community Services, Columbia County.
People USA and Columbia County are using this project to create a more holistic continuum of care together.
“We look to be an effective partner in helping the Columbia County community. We commend Dan Almasi and his team for embracing the value of Peer Services, “Steve Miccio, Chief Executive Officer, People USA.
People USA’s mission is to educate, support, and empower people and communities to understand, manage, and overcome mental health, addiction, and social determinant of health challenges.
