AHN Launches Unique Weekend Nurse “Work Your Way” Opportunity to Enhance Staffing Levels and Reduce Nursing Staff Workload

[ad_1]

Claire Zangerle, Chief Nurse Executive, Allegheny Health Network (AHN)

“We recognize giving up time on the weekends after a busy week at a nurse’s regular job is difficult, so we are recognizing that sacrifice and commitment with this new program.” Claire Zangerle, Chief Nurse Executive, AHN

Allegheny Health Network(AHN) has launched a unique Weekend Nurse Program as part of its continuing efforts to address the labor shortages impacting the health care industry nationwide. Open to nurses across the region, regardless of where they work, the new AHN program is designed to provide flexible work-life solutions.

Unlike the traditional weekend programs nurses are accustomed to, the new AHN Weekend Nurse Program provides nurses the opportunity to make extra money on their terms and schedules. Without disrupting their current work schedule during the week, they can pick up shifts on the weekend at any AHN hospital. The commitment can be as little as one eight-hour shift a month, or as many as six 12-hour shifts a month on the weekends of their choosing. The program is open to nurses who currently work at hospitals outside of AHN, with rates of $85 per hour, as well as AHN exempt non-bedside nurses, who will earn time and a half plus $48 per hour. The program will be in place through the first quarter of 2023.

“The nursing shortage continues to impact hospitals and healthcare systems across the country,” said AHN Chief Nurse Executive Claire Zangerle, DNP, RN, FAAN. “We must continually develop creative solutions to ease the burden on our current staff while providing others with the opportunity to join our community of AHN nurses in unique ways. We are building the workforce of the future while supporting the workforce of the present.”

Continuing, Zangerle said nurses in the new program can pick up a shift or two on any given weekend and essentially be compensated about as much as they would make in a week of wages.

“We recognize giving up time on the weekends after a busy week at a nurse’s regular job is difficult, so we are recognizing that sacrifice and commitment with this new program,” Zangerle said. “We urge anyone interested to visit ahn.org/weekend-nurse for more information and to learn more about the various nursing opportunities available at AHN. Our “Work Your Way” nurse lifestyle program provides nurses with the freedom and flexibility to work in a way that suits their individual needs.”

Qualified nurse applicants are needed at the following AHN hospitals: Allegheny General, West Penn, Forbes, Jefferson, Wexford, Canonsburg, Allegheny Valley, and Saint Vincent. Nurses will be quickly on-boarded to units where the need is greatest, including medical-surgical and telemetry.

Other innovative offerings in the AHN “Work Your Way” program include a mobile internal staffing team model in which nurses are deployed to different AHN hospitals based on the needs of patients; and the traditional “weekend warrior” and “night owl” programs for AHN nurses who prefer to make those their primary jobs.

Zangerle said nurses at AHN are empowered to practice at their highest level in all settings, putting the patient at the center of their work by embracing evidence-based practices and collaborating across clinical disciplines.

AviClear offers patients a safe, well-tolerated, drug-free approach with durable results, which significantly shifts the treatment paradigm for acne. Treatment is given in three sessions, one month apart, and has a similar clearance rate to Accutane (oral medication) with no creams or pills needed. EmeritusDX and KDx Diagnostics Inc. Announce a Partnership to Offer the URO17 NON-INVASIVE Urine Test for Bladder Cancer

[ad_1]

News Image

“EmeritusDX is dedicated to expanding our services to ensure patient care is served and clinical outcomes are improved.” Robert Embree, Chief Executive Officer of EmeritusDX.

EmeritusDX and KDx Diagnostics announced today the partnership to provide the URO17 test for the detection of bladder cancer. URO17 is a non-invasive urine test with high sensitivity and negative predicted value (NPV) that can be used to determine the status of active bladder cancer and to improve patient diagnosis. This is also likely to improve the treatment path as URO17 is also now available as a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT) in the United States. EmeritusDX will offer URO17 testing to Urology practices across the country.

With over 85,000 new cases of bladder cancer in the United States every year the most common symptom of bladder cancer is hematuria, or blood in the urine, and patients with hematuria need to be subjected to invasive cystoscopic procedures even though a large majority of patients with micro-hematuria will not have bladder cancer. The URO17 test, and its high sensitivity and NPV for bladder cancer, will assist in ruling these patients out for unnecessary cystoscopy and its invasive procedure and in turn reduce the work-up.

“We are very excited to partner with EmeritusDX, a premier cancer diagnostics and information company in the US, to make our URO17 test and information available to their network of urologists. Through EmeritusDX, urologists will have direct access to ordering URO17 Laboratory Developed Test for patients at risk of bladder cancer,” says Sholeh Jahanfard, President of KDx Diagnostics Inc.

“EmeritusDX is thrilled to present this additional test offering to the clients we serve. The URO17 LDT test adds efficiency and precision to the care of patients with bladder cancer. EmeritusDX is dedicated to expanding our services to ensure patient care is served and clinical outcomes are improved,” says Robert Embree, Chief Executive Officer of EmeritusDX.

URO17 LDT is currently validated and available for ordering through EmeritusDX

About EmeritusDX

EmeritusDX is a cancer diagnostics and information company. Our expertise is in delivering actionable clinical information. Within our world-class laboratory, we perform testing that guides the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. About KDx Diagnostics Inc.

Founded in 2017, KDx is focused on developing non-invasive cancer tests to improve early detection and therapy decisions in cancer. The URO17 bladder cancer test developed by KDx may prove to be the most sensitive and specific for bladder cancer developed to date. KDx plans to develop tests based on the same biomarker for other platforms and sample types and expand its product line into other cancer diagnostic tests. URO17 is available as LDT in the U.S.

The Value of Patient Co-Creation in Clinical Trial Design, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

[ad_1]

Low patient numbers, an incomplete understanding of the disease pathology, phenotypic heterogeneity and a lack of established endpoints are barriers to efficient and effective clinical trials.

Co-creation with patients is vital for effective clinical trial design. A study by Skovlund, PC, Nielsen, BK, Thaysen, HV et al. shows that, in clinical trials, “patient involvement can lead to improvements in design, selection of relevant outcome measures and effective recruitment of trial participants.”

For a medicine to be authorised, clinical efficacy and safety need to be established, usually through robust and relevant clinical trial data. There are several unique challenges in the development of orphan disease treatments. Low patient numbers, an incomplete understanding of the disease pathology, phenotypic heterogeneity and a lack of established endpoints are barriers to efficient and effective clinical trials.

A key aspect is the choice and selection of the primary and key secondary efficacy endpoints: a reliable, valid, sensitive, interpretable and meaningful endpoint is vital to a well-designed study. This is necessary both as the basis to demonstrate the clinical impact of any therapeutic intervention and to stand up to regulatory scrutiny.

In this webinar, attendees will learn how Aparito’s Patient Group Accelerator Programme enables patients to co-create alongside sponsors & CROs. The Accelerator is designed to understand and fulfil patients’ needs by working closely with patient organisations and finding new endpoints that are relevant to their specific conditions.

The featured speakers speak to a young patient to gain their perspective on being involved with clinical trial design and they demonstrate how this feedback can be taken into study design as they close out the session with a real-life example from Aparito’s Accelerator programme.

Register to learn the value of patient co-creation in clinical trial design and how patient involvement can improve trial design and clinical outcome measures.

Join Begonya Nafría, Patients Engagement in Research Coordinator, Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital Barcelona; Nora Navarro, Patient, Kids Barcelona; Lucy Dixon, Chair, PCD Support UK; and Elisa Ferrer Mallol, Patient Advocacy Manager, Aparito, for the live webinar on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 10am EST (4pm CET/EU-Central).

For more information, or to register for this event, visit The Value of Patient Co-Creation in Clinical Trial Design.

Transport Increases Risk of Complication or Death for Critically Ill Patients

[ad_1]

News Image

Remote cardiac monitoring systems with extensive data storage, round-the-clock patient monitoring, and real-time data deliver the information physicians need to provide the best available care

When patients are critically ill, intrahospital transport (IHT), moving patients within the hospital, can cause significant complications.(1) Patients may be moved to other hospital areas for diagnostic testing or transferred to another unit. Regardless of the length of stay in the hospital, IHT statistically increases the risk of complications and death.(2) Nearly half of all patients transported within a hospital experience an adverse event.(3) To minimize the risk, IHT must be well-planned, executed efficiently, and include the proper monitoring equipment and staff. Equipment needs to be set up for transport without the risk of tangled cords or lost power. When an IHT is executed by trained personnel using remote telemetry, even critically ill patients can be safely transported.(4)

The most effective transport monitoring systems can eliminate dangerous data gaps during transportation. Cardiac monitors are a vital component of IHT for critically ill patients. They must seamlessly interface with a subset of mobile diagnostic devices, as well as hospital IT systems. Wireless systems like remote cardiac monitoring can improve care during IHT by ensuring that the patient’s vital signs and ECG are continuously tracked.

“Remote cardiac monitoring systems with extensive data storage, round-the-clock patient monitoring, and real-time data deliver the information physicians need to provide the best available care,” says Stuart Long, CEO of InfoBionic, a Massachusetts-based digital health company.

In addition to reducing the risks associated with IHT, advanced virtual telemetry can meet the needs of most patients, no matter where they are in the hospital. Some areas, like the ICU, have sophisticated stationary cardiac monitors that are mostly confined to one hospital area, leaving the potential for patients to go without adequate monitoring when transported to non-telemetry areas like radiology or cardiology.

Patients requiring a higher level of telemetry and complex medical equipment typically occupy hospital beds for a more extended period. Low-acuity patients can benefit from remote monitoring in less critical areas of the hospital or even in their own homes, liberating hospital beds for more acute patients.

InfoBionic is introducing the cloud-based MoMe™ ARC (Advanced Remote Cardiology) Platform that is intended to capture and deliver real-time cardiac data to near real-time cardiac monitoring data as patients shift from inpatient to outpatient. There are no limits to the level of medical complexity. The MoMe™ ARC Platform will allow for noninvasive and continuous cardiac monitoring for low-acuity to higher-acuity patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. MoMe™ ARC technology is intended to support a range of compatible third-party RPM (remote patient monitoring) devices, such as blood pressure cuffs, oximeters, and scales.

Infobionic’s remote cardiac telemetry monitoring system has the potential to reduce IHT risks, allowing for consistent, round-the-clock monitoring while possibly freeing up valuable in-hospital beds for higher-acuity patients and simultaneously providing continuous cardiac monitoring from hospital to home.

About InfoBionic
