Orbit Health Collaborates with Non-profit to Provide Telepsychiatry Services to COVID-19 Patients

CALABASAS, Calif. (PRWEB)

Orbit Health Telepsychiatry has partnered with a California-based non-profit to provide mental health services to homeless patients in Orange County, CA, who have tested positive for COVID-19. After they have been screened and tested positive, patients who are homeless in Orange County are provided with temporary housing in nearby hotels. These hotels have been modified to allow for safe medical monitoring and treatment while remaining in isolation, minimizing the risk of spreading the virus. While there, the patients have access to mental health care through telepsychiatry. Orbit Health’s telepsychiatry platform utilizes state-of-the-art, HIPAA compliant video-conferencing that is also portable, allowing high-quality mental health care anywhere it is needed.

“Many in our homeless population suffer from some form of mental illness or drug use, or both. On top of that, they are now stricken with COVID-19. By leveraging our technology platforms, we are able to bring much needed mental health care to these patients, no matter where they are physically located,” said Dr. Varin Gosein, CMO of Orbit Health, who has been overseeing this service. Utilizing telehealth, patients are being provided with psychiatric evaluations, medication management, crisis management, risk assessment and referrals for care. “It is a chance to get this at-risk population engaged in mental health treatment. For some, this will be the first time ever seeing a psychiatrist, which can be a very pivotal moment in their lives,” said Dr. Gosein.
