“The mission of this program is to share stories and honor outstanding individuals who are an inspiration to those around them and the next generation,” said Roger Ballard, CEO of Nuvision Federal Credit Union.

Do you know a frontline worker who stands out in your community? Nuvision Credit Union has been helping hard-working people financially survive the Covid-19 crisis through its NuvisionCares program and today announced an opportunity to honor those frontline workers who’ve been working tirelessly during these difficult times.

The ”Share Your First Responder Story,” program was created to bring some attention to hospital workers, firefighters, EMT’s, paramedics, police officers, sheriffs, and state troopers who have made a difference in their community. Ever since Covid-19 spread throughout the US, many frontline workers have been working in extraordinary circumstances. We want to honor them by sharing their stories. Nuvision Credit Union needs your help to share these stories to shine a spotlight on some exemplary individuals who go the extra mile.

“The mission of this program is to share stories and honor outstanding individuals who are an inspiration to those around them and the next generation,” said Roger Ballard, CEO of Nuvision Federal Credit Union. “It’s been such a difficult time for so many hard working people and it would be our privilege to award them with a small gesture of appreciation and to put a smile on their face.”

Submissions are now being accepted and will close on September 4th and should include a story of why the nominated individual has made their community a better place and how they inspire others. All entries will need to be accompanied by a photo, place of residence and contact information to be eligible. Five top honors will be awarded in each local region to include: Southern California, Cheyenne (WY), and Anchorage/Fairbanks (AK). Other areas are encouraged to apply and can win honorable mentions.

A uniform doesn’t make a hero, but Cliff Walker wears his firefighter gear proudly, as a symbol of the character and courage first responders must possess. Cliff Walker who is a firefighter with Seal Beach Federal Fire Department is the first of the five nominees selected for Southern California.

At the age of 53, Walker shows no sign of slowing down, and his participation in fitness challenges to raise money for charity has made him a local hero. Decked out in full fireman gear and an oxygen tank, equipment that weighs an incredible 70 lbs, Walker recently ran a marathon in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record. This wasn’t his first time completing such a strenuous challenge. In 2017, Walker ran one marathon a month in full gear to raise money for fellow firefighter’s son, who was four years old and battling stage four brain cancer. He plans on announcing a new challenge to run across the state of California to continue to raise money for charity.

Each of the five selected honorees from each region will receive a $250 cash prize, as well as another $250 donation to go to the first responder’s charity of their choice. Their story may also be featured on social and regional media throughout the week of September 11th in remembrance of the brave men and women who sacrificed for their community.
