For the second year in a row, Nurse Mates is proud to partner with Stanford University medical student, advocate, and founder of Dysunderstood, Ella Eastin. A record-breaking swimmer on the path to qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team, Ella was diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and dysautonomia, debilitating illnesses that ended her swimming career and set her life on an inspiring new course.
Now studying to be a physician, Ella is dedicated to helping others suffering from ME/ CFS and autonomic nervous system disorders (known as dysautonomia) and is the founder of Dysunderstood.com, an online forum for people living with the challenges of these chronic, often “invisible” illnesses, where she shares her own experiences. She also motivates and encourages young competitive swimmers through her work as a keynote speaker and mentor.
“Ella’s resilience and perseverance in turning a heartbreaking setback and life-changing diagnosis into an opportunity to help others through her medical career and unique online support community are inspirational,” says Lynne Dejadon, Vice President of Nurse Mates. “We’re excited to partner with her again this year to help spread the word about Dysunderstood and its mission.”
As part of this year’s collaboration, Ella has selected her top on-the-job favorites from the Nurse Mates footwear and accessory collection she recommends for her fellow medical students, doctors, and nurses.
