Author Margaret Sayers welcomes readers into the world of dementia and caring for those afflicted with the disease while sharing her helpful tips intertwined with faith in her new book, “Lest We Forget.”
The book aims to lend a helping hand through word by sharing Sayers’ personal and faith-based experiences in healthcare, specifically dealing with those who have been diagnosed with dementia coupled with those caring for them.
Sayers gives a rendition of how this book came about, stating, “I was a “friendly visitor” to a saintly lady from my church. Her dementia worsened, and she was moved into a nursing home,” Sayers said. “As she declined further, she was no longer comforted by familiar scriptures but rather was tormented by scriptures that spoke of sin or the unpardonable sin. I understood what was happening clinically and explained her response to the scriptures to her family and visitors. This prompted me to write a book to educate and comfort.”
Educated and having been in the healthcare field for decades, Sayers puts her practical experience in dealing firsthand with dementia patients and their loved ones into words, hoping to guide and shed light for readers during a difficult and tumultuous time.
“With Dementia seen as a particularly unknown disease that can come on at any point in anyone’s life and affect the individual and their loved ones,” Sayers said. “I hope my wisdom, practical experience, and faith help readers find solace in my words and may use my advice that exudes the care I have for dementia patients.”
