According to Psychology Today, “numerous researchers have recently stated that there is a silent crisis in men’s mental health.” Many men struggle to get control over their lives, and they struggle to define the deeper meaning of what it means to be a father, son, brother, and partner. “Men on the Cusp: Stepping Up, Reaching Out, Moving Forward,” by family therapist Thomas Nolan, aims to help men navigate these new life challenges so they can create fuller, happier lives. The book addresses current cultural patterns that might be prohibiting them from realizing their true potential. Nolan offers insights and strategies in this guide to help men make these changes and be more of what they want.
“Men have a tremendous potential to grow,” said Nolan. “This includes the capacity to make emotional connections and be more active in relationships.”
Nolan has maintained a private practice as an individual and family therapist for more than 40 years. He has always been interested in the area of men’s development and has been an active member of an ongoing men’s support group for almost 20 years. He began to notice men struggling more and more and the similar patterns that were holding them back. The book presents these real-life case examples and documents how these men went on to make changes to begin stepping up, reaching out, and moving forward.
Nolan also provides solutions for working better alongside women, finding a clearer sense of direction, and getting better at sharing ideas and feelings.
