NeuroFlow, the market leader in technology and services for behavioral health integration, has partnered with Sixteenth Air Force (Air Forces Cyber), to provide wellness and resiliency support and resources to Airmen.
The 18-month contract, which was awarded through TACFI, an innovation program within AFWERX, will focus on increased access to self-management tools and programs to optimize performance through daily health habits.
“Sixteenth Air Force is at the leading edge of intelligence and decision-making for the U.S. Air Force. They are a vital and resourceful organization that understands technology’s increasing role in the personal and professional lives of Airmen,” said NeuroFlow Chief Executive Officer and Army Veteran Chris Molaro. “We’re proud to partner with Air Forces Cyber to ensure those who seek help have access to tailored, private mental health resources and tools that they can use at their own discretion.”
Sixteenth Air Force, tasked with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, cyber, electromagnetic warfare, information operations, weather and information warfare for the U.S. Air Force can require Airmen to perform long hours of sustained concentration, which can take a mental toll without proper support. As more studies reveal the ‘intense emotional distress’ Airmen and other service members are under, and the increased awareness for suicide in military culture, steps are being taken to address the issue.
“NeuroFlow is a valuable tool in our armamentarium for resilience and improved mental health. This application helps to normalize mental health as part of a holistic approach to self-care and human performance enhancement,” said Col. Tracy Bozung, 16th Air Force Surgeon General. “Giving our Information Warfare Warriors the ability to work through mental health topics, ranging from sleep to mood, using validated questionnaires, is a significant advancement in ensuring the Airmen’s voices are heard and necessary resources are provided. It is a proactive approach to mental health care, tailored to an individual’s preferences and needs, available 24/7.”
In 2019, NeuroFlow began its initial work with the U.S. Air Force, at several bases, through an AFWERX contract. Through the partnership and the company’s unique triage engine, ‘urgent alerts’ triggered by in-app behavior helped to de-escalate incidents and even prevent instances of self-harm. This information remains anonymous and sits with a clinical response team, not battalion leaders.
“We’re at a place, socially, that is more empowering to speak about mental health and its impact on daily life, even job performance,” said NeuroFlow Vice President of Clinical Operations and Army Veteran Matt Miclette, MPH. “That same mentality needs to crossover into the military community. Technology gives us that much-needed ability to listen for a problem and activate the right resources for someone in crisis, before it becomes too late.”
