“Through our partnership with Rocking Horse and other community health organizations across the nation, we’re proud to offer a secure, trusted platform that allows quality care to get to those patients in most need, no matter where they are, and evolves with the organization as their needs change.”

Rocking Horse Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) operating in four Ohio locations, is using telehealth solutions from Updox, the only place to manage healthcare communications across both in-person and virtual care, to supplement community health services and serve their 14,000 patients.

Rocking Horse includes 48 providers and 200 staff members who manage more than 70,000 patient visits a year at four community locations. Care services include basic medical, behavioral health, dental, chiropractics, prenatal, substance abuse counseling and material needs assistance.

The centers were initially evaluating Updox for electronic fax and document management when COVID-19 entered Ohio in March. Over the course of 48 hours, the center went from an initial demo of Updox Video Chat to seeing their first patient via telehealth. More than 90 patients were seen during the first week of the pandemic, allowing care to continue in a safe, secure manner. The centers are now implementing Updox Electronic fax as well.

“Updox’s support in getting us up and running with telehealth solutions made a tremendous impact on our ability to deliver essential care. We reached out on a Tuesday and were seeing patients via telehealth by Thursday,” says Kent Youngman, CEO, Rocking Horse Community Center. “Telehealth not only allowed us to maintain our patient volume, it ensured that community members in need, who relied on our services, were still able to receive them.”

“Through our partnership with Rocking Horse and other community health organizations across the nation, we’re proud to offer a secure, trusted platform that allows quality care to get to those patients in most need, no matter where they are, and evolves with the organization as their needs change,” says Michael Morgan, CEO, Updox. “Virtual care bridges a gap that exists in healthcare and provides options for patients to access care no matter their location or situation. Patients appreciate the convenience telehealth offers and it allows healthcare to expand services outside of physical location.”

“We will definitely continue offering telehealth post-COVID. More than 30 percent of our patients indicate a preference for using that to continue their care,” says Stacy Lee, director of Operations, Rocking Horse. “Prior to the pandemic, we were working on a transportation program to get people to the office for care. We’ll be able to use telehealth for that and that allows us to reach patients we may not have been able to see otherwise.”
