Moxie Scrubs: Designed For Nurses, By Nurses

“It is an honor to be recognized by Fast Company for our meaningful work supporting nurses across the country. I feel so grateful that I get to build this amazing brand that supports nurses where they need the support the most.” – Moxie Scrubs’ Founder and CEO, Alicia Tulsee

Fast Company announced today its second annual “BrandsThat Matter” list, honoring brands that communicate and demonstrate brand purpose. These companies and nonprofits have achieved relevance through cultural impact and social engagement, and authentically communicated their missions and ideals.

The final list, which includes large multinational conglomerates, small-but-mighty companies, and nonprofits, recognizes 145 brands that give people compelling reasons to care about them—and offer inspiration for others to buy in. All 145 have found an ability to forge an emotional connection with customers, whether leading on the environment or pop culture, engaging B2B customers, or responding meaningfully to current events.

All brands that applied were considered for overall recognition. Additionally, there are also honorees on category-specific lists based on region, size, and status.

“This year, we’ve expanded the Brands That Matter program to evaluate honorees in the context of how they matter within the category in which they compete for people’s attention or loyalty. The result is a wide-ranging list of honorees that are making their mark on culture, and through social impact,” said Brendan Vaughan, Fast Company’s editor-in-chief.

“Entrepreneurship gives you the opportunity to take your life in directions you would never think could be possible. And it’s even more beautiful when your business helps to improve the lives of millions of people across the country,” explains Moxie Scrubs’ Founder and CEO, Alicia Tulsee. “It is an honor to be recognized by Fast Company for our meaningful work supporting nurses across the country. I feel so grateful that I get to build this amazing brand that supports nurses where they need the support the most.”

The idea for Moxie Scrubs was developed in Harvard University’s Innovation Lab in 2019 when Alicia couldn’t seem to find a brand dedicated to nurses and their unique performance needs, despite nurses being the largest and fastest-growing segment of the healthcare workforce with significantly different needs compared to other roles in healthcare. This gave birth to their mission to create a lifestyle brand made by nurses for nurses where every design is named after the nurse who worked with their design team to create the scrubs they want to wear, building a strong community and inclusivity around the brand to become a beacon for nurse culture.

Less than two years later, CEO Alicia Tulsee was named on the 2021 Forbes Next 1000 List, spotlighting the dedication she had not only to building this brand, but also her continuous support of the nursing community as the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the unwavering courage of frontline heroes around the world.

By early 2022, Tulsee surpassed her goals and single-handedly raised over $2.4 million dollars in pre-seed funding for Moxie Scrubs. In the process of doing so, she found herself recognized once again, this time by ForbesWomen for her tenacity and drive to push forward through any obstacle that stood in her way of achieving the goals she set for Moxie Scrubs.

Fast Company editors judged each brand on relevancy, cultural impact, ingenuity, and business impact to compile the list.
