“Part of our ongoing efforts to diversify the MedTech industry include creating meaningful partnerships with organizations like MedTech Color.” Dr. P. LaMont Bryant, Head of Regulatory Affairs for Ethicon and Head of the Gross Profit Initiative for Johnson & Johnson MedTech Research & Development.

MedTech Color is poised to convene more industry professionals than ever during its upcoming Annual Networking Breakfast on October 25, in Boston, MA., as part of the nation’s largest trade event, The Medtech Conference. Now in its 5th year, the nonprofit’s highly anticipated morning gathering will feature LaMont Bryant Ph.D. as its keynote speaker.

Dr. Bryant, the recipient of numerous accolades and honors, is a high-caliber Medtech leader and champion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. In his roles as Head of Regulatory Affairs for Ethicon and Head of the Gross Profit Initiative for Johnson & Johnson MedTech Research & Development, he sees a wider and broader platform to highlight MedTech Color’s mission and create momentum with ongoing DEIB objectives from an industrywide angle.

“Part of our ongoing efforts to diversify the MedTech industry include creating meaningful partnerships with organizations like MedTech Color and finding ways to come together to share ideas, experiences, and learnings so we can collectively make progress. There’s more work to be done, and I’m excited to join others at the upcoming MedTech conference and MTC Networking Breakfast as we discuss current challenges, bring to light solutions, and celebrate the progress we’re making to help build and support a community of leaders of color in the medical device industry,” said Dr. Bryant.

MTC’s leadership is counting on their individual and collective reach to make this year’s event a key milestone in the progress the organization plans to see through combined efforts. Multisector partnerships and an expanded marketing plan will support year-round, dedicated outreach to current sponsors, industry partners, VCs, students, professional members, previous Pitch Competition participants, and members of MTC’s Collaborative Community—of which Dr. Charisse Sparks is the Steering Committee Chair.

“There is an indescribable magic that happens during MTC’s Networking Breakfast. New relationships form and old ones get reignited. We are grateful to be able to provide a neutral and inclusive setting where leaders from across the ecosystem come together to build better solutions that will reach more patients. It sets us up perfectly for our pitch competition where we invest in the next generation of Medtech leaders.” – Kwame Ulmer, MedTech Color’s Founder and Executive Director.

MedTech Color has seen an increase in the number of young industry professionals of color, who come to the organization for support and networking opportunities. Programs, such as the organization’s Pitch Competition, allow for African-American and Hispanic entrepreneurs to find a space to present and promote their new technologies; being part of an ecosystem that fosters diversity in the context of innovation. The competition continues to receive the support of dedicated sponsors from various industries, allowing fresh talent to receive cash and in-kind awards to sustain their projects, develop, and bring to market unique products.

This event is part of the strategy to ramp up efforts in Q4 to meet the organization’s 2022 impact goals through a series of intentional partnerships, high-profile events, and programs. Every year, MedTech Color continues to double down on initiatives to increase the number of people of color, who enter and stay in Medtech.

MTC’s 5th Annual Networking Breakfast will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to interact with seasoned industry leaders and young professionals to gather more insights into how best to optimize future leadership tactics in the era of globalization and a focus on service, in an industry that will be contingent on diversity to thrive.
