Leda Health, a healthcare company serving survivors of sexual assault, announced today that it has been named to Fortune’s 2022 Change the World List. The prestigious annual list recognizes companies that have had a positive social impact through innovative activities that are part of their core business strategy. Leda was selected for its work to give sexual assault survivors more autonomy in the health decisions they face.

Sexual assault continues to be a prevalent issue in the U.S. and worldwide. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 81% of women and 43% of men nationwide reported experiencing sexual harassment or assault in their lifetime. Yet, 75% of sexual assault cases go unreported. This is due to a variety of reasons, including hospitals and law enforcement not being perceived as safe spaces by underrepresented communities, hospital care being inaccessible for survivors living in rural areas, and a shortage of sexual assault nurse examiners nationwide.
Recognizing the shortcomings in current sexual assault care, Leda Health offers equitable access to healthcare by meeting survivors where they are and providing them with all possible tools for healing. These resources include an Early Evidence Kit for DNA collection that allows survivors to collect forensic material in as little as 30 minutes, enabling survivors to preserve evidence even if they chose not to immediately report their assault. Leda also provides STI testing and Plan B, a mobile application, a 24/7 Care Team for guidance around the clock, and an exam location map.
